      • 高麗人蔘이 寒冷 및 高溫에 로된 흰쥐의 副腎 아스코르빈酸과 好酸性 白血球에 미치는 影響

        This study was planned to see whether the Panax Ginseng has any influence upon the stress mechanism in rats exposed to cold and heat environment. Dividing 120 male albino rats with weights ranging from 150 to 200 gram, into sodium chloride group (which received subcutaneous saline injection) and ginseng extract group (which received subcutaneous injection of ginseng extract) acclimated at least for 13 days to three condition; cold, optimal condition, or heat (10'C, 20'C, or 30'C), experiments were carried out as follows: For consecutive days the ginseng extract group and sodium chloride group as control group received each day 0.5 ml per 100 gram body weight of ginseng extract and physiological saline, respectively. At the same time. rats received ginseng extract or saline acclimated to cold or heat. On the final day after begining of ginseng extract or physiological saline administration, the adrenal ascorbic acid content and the eosinophil count were measured. To prepare ginseng extract, 300 gram of Korean Panax Ginseng was extracted with 95% ethyl alcohol in a boiling water bath for about 300 hours. This procedure yielded 50 gram of dark brown substance, from which a "ginseng extract' was prepared, dissolved 4 mg of the substance in 1 ml of physiological saline. Adrenal ascorbic acid content and eosinophil count served as an indicator of reaction to stress. The ascorbic acid content has been studied colorimeterically with Toyo densitometer (Type 1) utilizing the reduction of 2, 6-eichlorophenol-indophenol sodium, and the eosinophil count studied using HinkeIman's solution, respectively. 1) Ginseng extract has no influence upon the adrenal ascorbic acid content and the eosinophil count of rats unier optimal condition, 200C. 2) The adrenal ascorbic acid content and the eosinophil count of the sodium chloride group whicli exposed to cold or heat (10'C or 30'C) decreased significantly over that of the sodium chloride group under optimal condition, 20'C. 3) Ginseng extract greatly delays the decrease of the adrenal ascorbic acid content and the^eosinophil count of rats to exposure to cold or heat (10C or 30C). It may be inferred that ginseng extract has no influence upon optimal condition (20'C) and tL-it ginseng extract greatly delays the decrease of adrenal ascorbic acid content and the eosinophil count of rats exposed to cold or heat (10'C or 30'C), provided that the ginseng extract is given consecutively.

        The occurence of pyroninophilic cells is well corelated with antibody formation from cellular source. Cytoplasm, with evidence of RNA-containing granules play an important role in biosynthesis of protein, especially gamma globullin that imposed as a major component in the formation of immune response. The present experiment was carried out in order to investigate the influence of thyroid gland upon antibody formation as reflected by the presence of pyroninophilic cells in various organs of the rabbit following antigenic stimulation with horse serum. The experimental animals were grouped into 10 groups, and each group denoted as following; Group "1. Normal rabbits. “2. Rabbits with immunization with horse serum. “ 3. Rabbits with sham operation. “4. Rabbits with immunization and simultaneous sham operation. “5. Rabbits with thyroidectomy. “6. Normal rabbits with administration of thyroid extract. “7. Rabbits with immunization and thyroid extract administration. “8. Rabbits with immunization and thyroidectomy. “9. Rabbits with thyroid extract administration following thyroidectomy. “10. Rabbits with immunization, thyroidectomy and thyroid extract administration. The results were summarized as follows: 1) The grade of pyroninophilic cell infiltration in the lymphnode and the spleen of group 7 was slightly greater than that observed in group 2. 2) In group 8, the odcurennce of pyroninophilic cell in both the lyhiphnode and the spleen was greater than that observed in group 2, and the finding was highly assimilated with that observed from group 7. However, the inclination of pyroninophilic cell distribution was noted in the lyniphnode in group 8, and group 2 in the spleen. 3) A moderate degree, of pyroninophilic cell infiltration was noted in group 4, meanwhile with lesser extent than group 7 and 8, However, the extent was greater than group 2. These findings, therefore, highly suggested the fact that thyroid gland did neither involve itself in the process of acceleration or suppression of antibody formation constantly but to produce a certain influence upon it.

        자궁내막간질육종 1 예

        저자들은 1989년 11월 본원 산부인과에서 극히 희귀한 자궁체부에 발생한 자궁내막간질육종을 자궁전적출술과 우측 난소난관 적출술을 시행하여 치료한 1예를 경험하였기에 이에 간단한 문헌적 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. A rare case of endometrial stromal sarcoma is reported with the brief review of literature. This case, 27 year old multiparous housewife was treated by the abdominal total hysterectomy with Rt. Salpingo-oophorectomy. The specimen revealed endometrial stromal sarcoma.

And a brief review on anencephalus is presented.

        8.8kg 체중의 거대아 분만예

        A giant baby who has more than 8.8kg of boby weight at birth is rare, only in Korea, but in the world literature. A healthy male baby, whose birth was 8.8kg and delivered by Cesarean section without any malformation was presented.

        Although many facets of gynecomastia are enigmatic, the histopathologic features have been defined by several authors who have based their observation on surgically resected breasts. A histopathologic study was made on fifteen cases of gynecomastia that were observed during past five years, 1960 to 1964, at department of pathology, college of medicine, Seoul National University. It has been shown that varying degree of duct hyperplasia associated with concentric periductal fibrous tissue proliferation was the most conspicuous features of gynecomastia. Varying degree of proliferation, elongation or branching of mammary ducts were noted and the inflammatory cell infiltration predominated by lymphocytes and plasma cell was not infrequent. However, not a single case revealed formation of acini or lobules simulating female breast. The lesions were unilateral in all cases and no systemic endocrinopathy was encountered clinically.
