The poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/graphene (GN) composites were prepared by solution blending. An in situ measurement technique was adopted to examine the non-isothermal crystallization of PLA/GN composites, which was different from the typical circumstances at constant cooling rate in DSC. The rheological properties of the samples were investigated, and the Carreau-A model was applied to non-linearly fit the rheological data. The non-isothermal crystallization kinetics and solidification behaviors at variant cooling rates were investigated using a modified version of Avrami equation by Jeziorny coupled with three-parameter model (TPM) and four-parameter model (FPM). Our findings showed that the viscosity of the PLA/GN composites dropped with increasing shear rate or GN content. Crystallization kinetic analysis suggested that GN served as an effective nucleating agent for PLA under non-isothermal melt crystallization conditions with variant cooling rate.

Bovine adenovirus type 3 (BAdV3) is being used in the development of potential vehicles for gene therapy and vectored vaccine. To that end, a more comprehensive description of BAdV3 biology is essential. In this study, we focused on the role of pIX in BAdV3 virion rescue after full-length BAdV3 genome transfection. Initially, pIX deletion or initiation codon mutation abolished the production of progeny virions, which suggested that pIX was essential for the rescue of BAdV3 containing a full-length genome. Moreover, through transfection of a panel of pIX mutant BAdV3 genomes, we observed that the conserved N-terminus and the putative leucine zipper element (PLZP) were essential for virion rescue, whereas the C-terminus following the coiled-coil domain was non-essential. In addition, swap of the PLZP element and its following region of BAdV3 pIX to corresponding domains of human adenovirus type 5 (HAdV5) did not affect virion production, whereas swap of the entire pIX abolished production of progeny virions. We suggest that failure of the full-length BAdV3 pIX swap might be due to species specificity of its N-terminus region before the PLZP element.
A Grey Probability Measure Set based Mobile Robot Position Estimation Algorithm

A novel algorithm for the position estimation of a mobile robot is proposed, which is based on probability statistics and grey system theory. For the proposed algorithm, the grey probability measure set is established, which is composed of a base set and the corresponding grey probability measure. The base set is used to represent the uncertain information and the grey probability measure distributes probability on the base set. Moreover, the integrating rules are formulated using the grey probability measure set and the q-satisfied rule to estimate the position of a mobile robot. In addition to providing a new way of representing the uncertain information, results of the proposed algorithm are also more reliable in the presence of error and outliers. The algorithm is applied in the position estimation of a Pioneer 3-DX robot in a corridor-office environment. Experimental results have shown that the estimation accuracy of the algorithm is as good as that of the particle filter and better than that of the extended Kalman filter.
Accelerated Split Bregman Method for Image Compressive Sensing Recovery under Sparse Representation

Compared with traditional patch-based sparse representation, recent studies have concluded that group-based sparse representation (GSR) can simultaneously enforce the intrinsic local sparsity and nonlocal self-similarity of images within a unified framework. This article investigates an accelerated split Bregman method (SBM) that is based on GSR which exploits image compressive sensing (CS). The computational efficiency of accelerated SBM for the measurement matrix of a partial Fourier matrix can be further improved by the introduction of a fast Fourier transform (FFT) to derive the enhanced algorithm. In addition, we provide convergence analysis for the proposed method. Experimental results demonstrate that accelerated SBM is potentially faster than some existing image CS reconstruction methods.

In our previous studies, we have shown that thiourea compounds containing phosphate esters have potent antitumor activity and can be used as a novel strategy for the development of antitumor agents. Herein, a series of novel phosphonate thioureas 5–38 have been synthesized, which were fully characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectrum, elemental analysis. Three human cancer cell lines (Bcap-37, BGC-823, and PC-3) have been used to investigate these compounds’ antitumor activities. After the summarization of the structure–activity relationships, we found that the variation of R, R1, and R2 in these novel phosphonate thioureas contribute to the antitumor activities. All these SAR-guided efforts may lead to novel antitumor drugs in the market in the near future.
Study of the Cavitation Phenomenon Inside Roller Vane Pump

The roller vane pumps are widely used in the automobile industry as steering pumps. However, the cavitation damage near the outlet relief groove could directly decrease serve life and efficiency of the roller vane pump. In this paper, the mechanism of the cavitation is discussed, especially the cavitation damage near the tip of the relief groove. The computational fluid dynamics simulation method (CFD) based on dynamic meshing technique and user defined function (UDF) is applied to calculate flow dynamics and multi-phase flow characteristics, especially the flows inside the fluid film between the stator and valve plate. The simulated results show that the cavitation region is the same with the experiment one, and the cavitation inside the fluid film is caused by the shear action of the stator and valve plate. The negative pressure region near the relief groove has an extreme low pressure at 0.08 MPa, and the maximum flow velocity is 99.3 m/s. Besides, the cavitation region near the relief groove has the highest gas volume fraction of 2.23% and the lowest density of 560 kg/m3. Furthermore, the reason why cavitation happened at this position in a roller vane pump is analyzed by theoretical analysis.
