• Environment-Detection-and-Mapping Algorithm for Autonomous Driving in Rural or Off-Road Environment

        Jaewoong Choi,Junyoung Lee,Dongwook Kim,Soprani, G.,Cerri, P.,Broggi, A.,Kyongsu Yi IEEE 2012 IEEE transactions on intelligent transportation sy Vol.13 No.2

This paper presents an environment-detection-and-mapping algorithm for autonomous driving that is provided in real time and for both rural and off-road environments. Environment-detection-and-mapping algorithms have been designed to consist of two parts: (1) lane, pedestrian-crossing, and speed-bump detection algorithms using cameras and (2) obstacle detection algorithm using LIDARs. The lane detection algorithm returns lane positions using one camera and the vision module “VisLab Embedded Lane Detector (VELD),” and the pedestrian-crossing and speed-bump detection algorithms return the position of pedestrian crossings and speed bumps. The obstacle detection algorithm organizes data from LIDARs and generates a local obstacle position map. The designed algorithms have been implemented on a passenger car using six LIDARs, three cameras, and real-time devices, including personal computers (PCs). Vehicle tests have been conducted, and test results have shown that the vehicle can reach the desired goal with the proposed algorithm.

Design Considerations to Enhance Perforation Corrosion and Life Prediction of Automotive Body Panel

        Choi, Minsoo,Chung, Bumgoo,Choi, Jaewoong 한국부식방식학회 2003 Corrosion Science and Technology Vol.2 No.5

The corrosion forms of automotive body panels are various. One of the representations is a corrosion pitting and its propagation on the lapped portion by galvanic corrosion. But it has been difticult in correlation analysis about the corrosion propagation rate and mechanism of pitting and the actual automotive body in field. This present study interprets experimentally the rust pitting occurrence mechanism on the lapped panels through experimental methods. And field car investigation was executed for correlation analysis with experimental results. This paper compares corrosion propagation rate by pitting on hot-dip galvannealed steel sheets with corrosion forms in the automotive field condition. The research fundamentals which make it possible to predict the pitting occurrence and propagation on the lapped panels in the actual vehicles are given.

      • Dynamic driveline torque estimation during whole gear shift for an automatic transmission

Choi, Hyunseok,Hwang, Jaewoong,Choi, Seibum Elsevier 2018 Mechanism and machine theory Vol.130 No.-

Abstract

This study proposes a novel method for estimation of driveline torque of wet type AT (Automatic transmission). The previous methods of torque estimation in the clutch-to-clutch shift mechanism is mainly applicable to the single gear shift. Thus, they require specific definitions of each gear shift and signal processing corresponding to the multi-gear shift. This study distinctly develops driveline torque estimator based on the whole transmission model, which is capable in applying on any conditional gear shift. This paper, also, incomparably investigates brake/clutch model including centrifugal force, describing physical behavior of real parts. In addition, the development of the method includes adaptive brake and clutch torque estimator in order to compensate variation factor during the shift. The estimation performance of the proposed estimator is evaluated both in simulations and experiments. The results demonstrate that the proposed methods can estimate the driveline torques effectively during the whole gear shift and well describes the typical clutch-to-clutch phenomena such as inter-locking.

Highlights

A whole gear shift model without signal processing for a vehicle with an AT is developed with practical aspects.

Wet typed brake and clutch are modeled describing physical behavior of real parts.

A torque estimator with adaptation is designed to estimate torque through both brakes or clutches and the output shaft in an AT.

The effectiveness of the developed torque estimator is demonstrated by simulations and experiments.

The proposed methods well describe the typical clutch-to-clutch phenomena such as inter-locking.

Coordinated Control of Motor-Driven Power Steering Torque Overlay and Differential Braking for Emergency Driving Support

Jaewoong Choi,Kyongsu Yi,Jeeyoon Suh,Bongchul Ko IEEE 2014 IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology VT Vol.63 No.2

This paper describes a coordinated control of motor-driven power steering (MDPS) torque overlay and differential braking for emergency driving support (EDS). The coordinated control algorithm is designed to assist drivers to overcome hazardous situations. Electrically controllable MDPS and brake system are used as actuators, and a radar and a camera are used as a sensor system. Using environmental and vehicle information obtained from the sensor system, a risk of collision and driver's intention are determined, and a collision avoidance trajectory is generated, incorporating the driver's intention. Based on the generated collision avoidance trajectory, the MDPS overlay torque is determined to assist the driver's speed of response, and differential braking is determined to maximize the minimum vehicle-to-vehicle distance to avoid collision. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been investigated via computer simulations and real-time (RT) human-in-the-loop simulations. The simulation studies show that the controlled vehicle can secure additional vehicle-to-vehicle distance in severe lane change maneuvering for collision avoidance. The success rate of collision avoidance has been investigated for eight test drivers using the human-in-the-loop simulations. It has been shown that most of the test drivers can benefit from the proposed support system.

      • Clinically improved stasis dermatitis after angioplasty

        ( Jaewoong Choi ),( Won Soo Lee ) 대한피부과학회 2015 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.67 No.1

A 70-year-old female heavy smoker visited emergency room with severe pain on her both feet, which began 6 months ago and aggravated for recent 5 days. Erythematous to violaceous patches were found in her both shin and feet area, along with discoloration and ulceration on her right ankle and foot area. Upper dermal vascular proliferation and vessel dilatation were observed, along with obvious RBC extravasation. Clinically and histopathologically, the final diagnosis of stasis dermatitis was established. Afterward, Ankle-Bachial Index measurement and CT lower angiography were performed due to continuing severe pain on both lower legs, and cold sensation and discoloration of right foot, which are not common in stasis dermatitis. It revealed multifocal steno-occlusive lesion on her right anterior tibial artery. Pain of both lower legs showed marked relief after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, followed by dramatic improvement of the ulcerative skin lesions. Herein we report this case to emphasize the necessity of assertive evaluation arterial occlusive disease, when dermatosis with venous insufficiency such as stasis dermatosis is suspicious.

      • P154 Revised basic and specific (BASP) classification for pattern hair loss

        ( Jaewoong Choi ),( Myungsoo Jun ),( Solam Lee ),( Won-soo Lee ) 대한피부과학회 2016 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.68 No.2

However, BASP has its limitation in that the classification of frontal type is relatively rough and it cannot ascertain a specific hair loss pattern when the hair loss is associated in the temporal and occipital area. Objectives: To propose the revised BASP classification and to compare its utility and value for practical use with existing one. Methods: The subjects were 138 PHL patients who had visited our department since April 2015 to March 2016. In the revised BASP classification, the frontal type was subdivided into 5 stages from 3 stages, leaving basic type classification as same as the old one. In addition, the information whether temporal or occipital scalp was involved was also recorded. The clinical accuracy and ease of use were evaluated. Results: 12 subjects were excluded for being more suitable for chronic telogen effluvium. Temporal or occipital involvement was observed in 14 patients (11.11%). The clinical accuracy of the final type was 82.5% in the existing BASP classification and 71.4% of the revised one. Ease of use was 70.2% and 72.1% in the existing BASP classification and 48.9% and 52.2% in the revised one, respectively. Conclusion: The revised BASP classification which has supplemented the limitation of existing classification could be one of the possible alternative options in the classification of PHL.
