      • How Student Classroom Engagement Affects Students’ Study Results in Mathematics Classroom

        ( Hai-xia Si ),( Li-jun Ye ),( Yan-fang Zheng ) 한국수학교육학회 2019 수학교육연구 Vol.22 No.4

To improve students’ classroom engagement is not only the demand of curriculum revolution, but also the reflection of learning democracy. Students' responses and thinking are the main manifestations of students' participation in classroom learning. To reduce the amount of questions and increase the opportunities and time for students to think, this study, by employing SPSS, makes attempts to analyze the data by using multivariate GLM analysis to explore the effects of students' responses and thinking on learning results. The results indicated the students learning effect will be promoted through reducing the quantity and increasing the quality of question and adding the thinking opportunities.

      • Establishment of Paclitaxel-resistant Breast Cancer Cell Line and Nude Mice Models, and Underlying Multidrug Resistance Mechanisms in Vitro and in Vivo

        Chen, Si-Ying,Hu, Sa-Sa,Dong, Qian,Cai, Jiang-Xia,Zhang, Wei-Peng,Sun, Jin-Yao,Wang, Tao-Tao,Xie, Jiao,He, Hai-Rong,Xing, Jian-Feng,Lu, Jun,Dong, Ya-Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.10

Background: Breast cancer is a common malignant tumor which affects health of women and multidrug resistance (MDR) is one of the main factors leading to failure of chemotherapy. This study was conducted to establish paclitaxel-resistant breast cancer cell line and nude mice models to explore underlying mechanisms of MDR. Methods: The breast cancer drug-sensitive cell line MCF-7 (MCF-7/S) was exposed in stepwise escalating paclitaxel (TAX) to induce a resistant cell line MCF-7/TAX. Cell sensitivity to drugs and growth curves were measured by MTT assay. Changes of cell morphology and ultrastructure were examined by optical and electron microscopy. The cell cycle distribution was determined by flow cytometry. Furthermore, expression of proteins related to breast cancer occurrence and MDR was tested by immunocytochemistry. In Vivo, nude mice were injected with MCF-7/S and MCF-7/TAX cells and weights and tumor sizes were observed after paclitaxel treatment. In addition, proteins involved breast cancer and MDR were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results: Compared to MCF-7/S, MCF-7/TAX cells had a higher resistance to paclitaxel, cross-resistance and prolonged doubling time. Moreover, MCF-7/TAX showed obvious alterations of ultrastructure. Estrogen receptor (ER) expression was low in drug resistant cells and tumors while expression of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) and Ki-67 was up-regulated. P-glycoprotein (P-gp), lung resistance-related protein (LRP) and glutathione-S-transferase-${\pi}$ (GST-${\pi}$) involved in the MDR phenotype of resistant cells and tumors were all overexpressed. Conclusion: The underlying MDR mechanism of breast cancer may involve increased expression of P-gp, LRP and GST-${\pi}$.

Features of Student Engagement in Chinese Middle School Mathematics Classrooms

        ( Li Jun Ye ),( Hai Xia Si ) 한국수학교육학회 2010 수학교육연구 Vol.14 No.4

This study focuses on student engagement in Chinese middle school mathematics classrooms. By the recording and quantitative analysis on video case, this study explored the main acts and time of student engagement. The data showed that among the student engagements: (1) Students` responses to teacher`s question occurred most frequently; (2) Collective responses were much more than the individual responses; (3) Students` responses and classroom practice spent the longest time; (4) The most frequent student engagements occurred in the aspects of classroom practice; and (5) Students rarely asked a question to teachers. The study also suggested that teacher`s effective guidance could improve the level of student engagement and the content of classroom practice is very important to the quality of student engagement.

The Research on Metaphors of Expert Teachers in Mathematics Classroom

        ( Li Jun Ye ),( Hai Xia Si ) 한국수학교육학회 2011 수학교육연구 Vol.15 No.3

Metaphor is the main representations of teachers` practical knowledge, which can help students to understand mathematics better. Through the recording and quantitative analysis of video cases of expert teachers in mathematics classroom, there are some results after analysis: 1) Teachers use many metaphors in the classroom and most of that are structural-ontological metaphors, which takes a certain period of time. 2) Teachers use the metaphors mainly in the teaching process of introduce and explore by the form of question-answer. 3) During the process of concept teaching, the metaphors from the real-world examples can promote the students have more motivation to study. During the process of procedure teaching, the metaphors from similar materials can promote the students to understand the operational skill better.
