        3D Architectures of LaVO<sub>4</sub>:Eu<sup>3+</sup> Microcrystals via an EG-assisted Hydrothermal Method: Phase Selective Synthesis, Growth Mechanism and Luminescent Properties

        In this article, pure $m-LaVO_4:Eu^{3+}$ and $t-LaVO_4:Eu^{3+}$ nanocrystals were prepared by an EG-assisted hydrothermal method with regular shapes. A series of controlled experiments showed that the pH value of a mixed solution, the volume ratio of $EG/H_2O$ and the dosage of the doped $Eu^{3+}$ all had an important effect on the sizes and shapes of the final products. Furthermore, the constitutional unit of the products changed from 0D to 2D with an increase in the EG dosage. The PL results showed that $t-LaVO_4$ doped with $Eu^{3+}$ ions had better luminescence properties than $m-LaVO_4$ due to its special structure. All of these results not only expand our understanding of the luminescence properties of lanthanide orthovanadates, but they also elucidate the principles of the crystal growth.

        Apoptotic effect of physcion isolated from marine fungus Microsporum sp. in PC3 human prostate cancer cells

        Background: Apoptosis is a process of programmed cell death, and apoptosis defect results in serious diseases such as cancer. Apoptosis induction is one of the key mechanisms of anti-cancer agents. This study was aimed to find anti-prostate cancer compounds from marine-derived fungus Microsporum sp. Results: We found that physcion isolated from the fermentation broth extract of the marine fungus Microsporum sp. strain MFS-YL decreases the cell proliferation of PC3 human prostate cancer cells. Physcion induced cell apoptosis as determined by Annexin V/propidium iodide double staining. Physcion downregulated the anti-apopotoic proteins such as Ras, Bcl-xL, and Bcl-2, whereas upregulated the pro-apoptotic Bax. Physcion also activated caspase-3, caspase-8, and caspase-9. Conclusion: These results suggest that physcion from Microsporum sp. inhibits the proliferation of PC3 human prostate cancer cells via the pathway leading to apoptotic cell death. Physcion may be a potential candidate in the field of anticancer drug discovery against human prostate cancer.

        Assessing the Effectiveness of Security Assurances on the DPRK’s Nuclear Issue

        In the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s case of nuclear proliferation, less attention has been paid to the role of security assurances. This paper seeks to assess the role of security assurances for the DPRK provided by the UN, the Soviet Union, China, and the United States and to figure out why these assurances are less effective to bridle its nuclear ambition. It argues that an effective security assurance for nuclear non-proliferation should meet at least two conditions. Firstly the security assurance should be credible, which can be realized by being publicized, legally binding, and infusing with further commitments. Secondly, the security assurance tailored to the unique features of the target state’s concerns is more likely to be effective. Using this set of criteria, the only moderately effective assurance is that provided by the Soviet Union. The general security assurance of the UN is neither legally binding nor specifically targeted. The alliance with China exists only on paper as Pyongyang believes Beijing is reluctant to fulll its obligation as an ally. The United States is taking a capricious attitude on the DPRK and none of its security assurances are legalized or address its major concern of regime survival. These may help explain why security assurances failed to prevent the DPRK from acquiring nuclear weapons.

      • Computer vision-based displacement measurement with m-sequence target

        The development of image sensors enables the application of vision-based techniques to the non-contact displacement measurement of large-scale structures. The features of the physical targets are critical to the accuracy, stability and anti-interference of the displacement measurement results. In this study, a novel m-sequence target and the associated circular correlation processing technique are developed for real-time displacement measurement. The properties of the m-sequence as a pseudo-random sequence are introduced. The vision-based displacement calculation method is then derived from the correlation property of the m-sequence. The algorithms and measurement systems are integrated in the LabVIEW environment. To verify the anti-interference performance of the developed system, static and dynamic experimental tests are carried out with various forms of interference, such as partial occlusion, uneven illumination, out of focus and smoke effect. Experimental results indicate that the developed system cannot only accurately measure structural displacement, but also has outstanding antiinterference performance, even if 30% of the target is masked.

        Study on the Retarding Mechanism and Strength Loss of Gypsum from Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein Retarder

        In this article, the influence of a hydrolyzed wheat protein retarder on the hydration process, ion concentration in liquid phase, degree of supersaturation, and crystal morphology of plaster was investigated. Furthermore, the retarding mechanism and the strength loss of gypsum were also studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicate that the use of the hydrolyzed wheat protein retarder for plaster achieved a better retarding effect and lower strength loss. The combination of gypsum plaster with the retarder not only decreased the plaster’s early hydration rate and prolonged its setting time efficiently, but also militated against the crystal morphology of dihydrate gypsum. For example, the crystal dimensions changed little, but the proportion of needle-shaped crystals decreased. Combination with calcium ions on the surface of dihydrate gypsum crystal nuclei may form a chemisorbed layer, reduce the surface energy of the crystal nuclei, and inhibit the growth of the crystal nuclei of dihydrate gypsum. Consequently, the hydration process of building gypsum becomes greatly extended and is slowed down significantly.

        Study on the Waterproofing Performance of FGD Gypsum Building Products from Inorganic-Organic Composite Additives

        In this article, poly methyl triethoxy silane was compounded with an inorganic waterproof admixture at a certain ratio to improve the performance of gypsum products; a new type of high-efficiency compound water-proofing additive was also investigated. Furthermore, the waterproof mechanism and the various properties on the hardened gypsum plaster were investigated in detail by XRD and SEM. The results show that the intenerate coefficient of gypsum plaster increased to more than 0.9; the water absorbing rate decreased to less than 10 %. Both the bending strength and the compressive strength of gypsum plaster increased by various degrees. The intenerate coefficient reached a maximum value of 0.73 and the strength of the samples showed almost no change when 5% cement alone was added. In this new type of the high-efficiency compound with waterproof additive, the optimal technological parameters for formulas were obtained to be: 5% cement, 18 % mineral powder, and 0.8% poly methyl triethoxy silane, to compound gypsum plaster. Meanwhile, the production of high performance gypsum as a building material has become possible.

        중국인들의 한류스타에 대한 동일시욕구 및 관광기념품 선택속성이 한류 스타 관련 관광기념품 만족도, 재구매 및 구전의도에 미치는 영향 연구

        The purpose of this study is to examine how the perception level of the selective attribute of tourism souvenirs related to Hallyu stars and fandom and the desire for homogeneity for them affect purchasing behavior, including repurchase and friendly word-of-mouth behavior. Results indicate that the quality and uniqueness of tourism souvenirs and the atmosphere, facilities, and accessibility of the stores had a positive effect on purchase satisfaction. However, the language, knowledge, and attitude of salespersons who sold of Hallyu star souvenirs did not have a statistically significant effect on purchase satisfaction. Also, the desire to identify with Hallyu star fandom had a positive effect on purchase satisfaction for Hallyu star souvenirs. Furthermore, all optional attributes of Hallyu star tourist souvenirs and the desire for identification of fandom had a direct effect on word-of-mouth behavior. This study is meaningful in that it deals with Hallyu star tourism souvenirs, which have not been thoroughly covered in the previous research. In addition, the fact that the desire to identify with the fandom of Hallyu stars was studied together with the causal relationship between purchase satisfaction and post-purchase behavior is more significant than previous studies, which have mainly focused on the selection attributes of tourism souvenirs. 본 연구는 한류스타의 이미지를 활용해 제작한 관광기념품의 선택속성과 한류 스타에 대한 팬덤으로 인한 동일시 욕구가 한류스타 관광기념품 구매의 전반적인 만족도와 구전의도에 어떠한 영향을 주는지에 대하여 분석하였다. 연구결과로는 한류스타의 관광기념품의 품질, 독특함 그리고 점포 분위기 및 접근성은 구매 만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 한류스타 관광기념품을 판매하는 판매원의 언어, 지식, 태도는 구매만족에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 한류스타에 대한 동일시 욕구도 구매 만족도에 영향을 주고 있으며, 재구매 및 구전의도에 통계적으로 직접적이고 유의미한 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 선행연구에서 많이 다루지 않은 한류스타 관광기념품을 소재로 다뤘다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 관광기념품의 선택 속성에 주로 중심을 두었던 선행연구들에 비해 한류스타에 대한 팬덤의 동일시 욕구를 함께 연구하여 구매만족과 구매 후 소비행동과의 인과 관계를 규명하였다는 점에 연구의 의의가 있다.

        本論文通過對15至17世紀的韓國與中國相互經過各自不同的農耕社會而各有各所享有的陶瓷文化즘樣發展而來的一種考察, 對各個國家的陶瓷紋樣進行比較與分析; 同時通過對其紋樣的類似性與差異性以及獨創性的硏究來考察15~17世紀兩國間的陶瓷文化的內在的藝術性與民族精神。 In this paper, I first discuss how China and Korea developed their ceramic cultures in agricultural society during the 15th through 17th centuries. Then I will compare and analyze the different ceramic patterns in different countries. Finally, by comparing the similarities, differences and originality of ceramic patterns, to observe the artistry and national spirit that implied in their ceramic cultures during the 15th through 17th centuries.
