To improve reliability and availability, the railway system, which requires high safety, is composed of ahardware redundant system structure and hot-standby sparing system structure, which changes over the whole systemunit. As the railway system becomes bigger and the SIL certified standard controller platform is introduced, the designmethod is changed by constructing the system into independent subsystems. Although each subsystem is operated independently,and the overall system switches to failed sub-system units, the reliability and reliability improvement effectshave not been analyzed. In this paper, reliability of the system considering common cause failure has been analyzed andimprovement of system has been evaluated compared to existing hot-standby sparing system, which changes over thewhole system. For the reliability analysis, Markov model is used and reliability is compared with the failure rate ratioof sub-system.
