        Effects of dietary Enteromorpha powder on reproduction-related hormones and genes during the late laying period of Zi geese

        Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Enteromorpha powder supplementation on reproduction-related hormones and genes in the late laying period of Zi geese. Methods: A total of 312 (1-year-old) Zi geese with similar laying rate were randomly divided into 2 groups with 6 replicates each, each with 21 female geese and 5 male geese. The control group was fed with a basal diet and the test group was fed with a diet containing 3% Enteromorpha powder. The trial period lasted for 7 weeks. Results: Our results showed that the laying rate was improved in the test group at each week of trial (p<0.01), and the levels of estradiol in serum and prolactin in ovary were increased compared with the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Based on above results, Enteromorpha powder supplementation at 3% could promote reproductive performance during the late laying period of Zi geese.         Effects of Solution Treatment Temperatures on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of TIG–MIG Hybrid Arc Additive Manufactured 5356 Aluminum Alloy

        A novel additive manufacturing method with TIG–MIG hybrid heat source was applied for fabricating 5356 aluminumalloy component. In this paper the microstructure evolution, mechanical properties and fracture morphologies of both asdepositedand heat-treated component were investigated, and how these were affected by different heat-treated temperature. The as-deposited microstructure showed dominant equiaxed grains with second phase, and the size of them is coarse in thebottom region, medium in the middle region and fine in the top region owing to different thermal cycling conditions. Comparedwith as-deposited microstructure, the size of grain becomes large and second phases gradually dissolve in the matrixas heat-treated temperature increase. Different microstructures determine the mechanical properties of component. Resultsshow that average ultimate tensile strength enhances from 226 to 270 MPa and average microhardness increases from 64.2to 75.3 HV0.1 but ductility decreases from 33 to 6.5% with heat-treated temperature increasing. For all components, thetensile properties are almost the same in the vertical direction (Z) and horizontal direction (Y) due to equiaxed grains, whichexhibits isotropy, and the mechanisms of these are analyzed in detailed. In general, the results demonstrate that hybrid archeat source has the potential to fabricate aluminum alloy component.

        BMB : Reports ; An inhibitory role of NEK6 in TGFβ/Smad signaling pathway

        The NEK6 (NIMA-related kinases 6) is reported to play po-tential roles in tumorigenesis. Although it is suggested to function in several cellular pathways, the underlying mechanism in tumorigenesis is still largely unknown. In the present study, we discovered interaction of NEK6 with Smad4, a key member of transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) pathway. Over-expression of NEK6 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell lines suppresses TGFβ- mediated transcription activity in a kinase activity-dependent manner. In addition, NEK6 suppresses the cell growth arrest induced by TGFβ. Mechanically, NEK6 blocks nuclear translocation of Smad4, which is essential for TGF β function. Moreover, we identified that NEK6 could be regulated by TGFβ and hypoxia. Our study sheds new light on the roles of NEK6 in canonical TGFβ/Smad pathway and tum-origenesis.         ANALYTICAL SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS METHOD OF CROSSSECTIONAL SHAPE FOR THIN-WALLED AUTOMOBILE FRAME CONSIDERING GLOBAL PERFORMANCES

        At the conceptual design stage, thin-walled beams (TWBs) with the complex cross-sectional shapes are extensively used to compose the automobile frame. Thus, the performances of automobile frame are determined by crosssectional shapes of TWBs. Currently, the modifications of complex cross-sectional shapes depend on the experience of engineers, which often causes the design risk. Meanwhile, to our knowledge, the previous studies mainly focused on the regular cross sections and paid little attention for the complex cross-sectional shape for the automobile frame. Therefore, this paper proposes an analytical sensitivity analysis method to modify the complex cross-sectional shapes. This method regards the coordinates of points and the thicknesses of sheets as design variables to describe the cross-sectional shapes. The bending stiffness, torsional stiffness and frequency are used to evaluate the performances of automobile frame. Finally, an example of the RAV4 automobile frame verifies that the analytical sensitivity analysis method can effectively guide the modification of the cross-sectional shape and achieve the lightweight automobile frame.

        At the conceptual design stage, the cross-sectional shapes of thin-walled beams (TWBs) need to be optimized to improve the performance of automobile structure. Therefore, this paper innovatively proposes a cross-sectional shape optimization method to acquire a low cost, high stiffness, manufacturable and lightweight TWB. Meanwhile, the stamping cost of thin-walled beams is analytically derived. The cross-sectional area is taken as the objective function to establish an optimization formulation with multiple constraints such as cross-sectional stiffness, manufacturability and cost of TWBs. The single-objective genetic algorithm based on non-dominant principle is introduced to solve the problem. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by an example of double cell cross-sectional shape.

        Dual-mode Distributed Model Predictive Control for Platooning of Connected Vehicles with Nonlinear Dynamics

        This paper presents a dual-mode distributed model predictive control (DMPC) strategy for the platooning of connected vehicles with nonlinear dynamics. A third-order nonlinear model is employed to describe the dynamic characteristics of vehicles. In order to deal with the system nonlinearity and enhance the control precision, a DMPC based optimization problem is formulated for the vehicle platoon control, in which the nonlinear dynamics and the input boundaries are both considered as its constraints. Then, a dual-mode structure with the control scheme from the optimization and a local state feedback controller is proposed to drive the vehicles to the desired platoon. Comparing with other vehicle platoon algorithms, the proposed dual-mode DMPC strategy can significantly reduce the computational burden and save communication resources. Furthermore, the iterative feasibility and the stability of proposed control system are strictly analyzed. In final, numerical simulations are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

      • An Adaptive Tuned Heave Plate (ATHP) for suppressing heave motion of floating platforms

        Structural stability of floating platforms has long since been a crucial issue in the field of marine engineering. Excessive motions would not only deteriorate the operating conditions but also seriously impact the safety, service life, and production efficiency. In recent decades, several control devices have been proposed to reduce unwanted motions, and an attractive one is the tuned heave plate (THP). However, the THP system may reduce or even lose its effectiveness when it is mistuned due to the shift of dominant wave frequency. In the present study, a novel adaptive tuned heave plate (ATHP) is proposed based on inerter by adjusting its inertance, which allows to overcome the limitation of the conventional THP and realize adaptations to the dominant wave frequencies in real time. Specifically, the analytical model of a representative semisubmersible platform (SSP) equipped with an ATHP is created, and the equations of motion are formulated accordingly. Two optimization strategies (i.e., <i>J</i><sub>1</sub> and <i>J</i><sub>2</sub> optimizations) are developed to determine the optimum design parameters of ATHP. The control effectiveness of the optimized ATHP is then examined in the frequency domain by comparing to those without control and controlled by the conventional THP. Moreover, parametric analyses are systematically performed to evaluate the influences of the pre-specified frequency ratio, damping ratio, heave plate sizes, peak periods and wave heights on the performance of ATHP. Furthermore, a Simulink model is also developed to examine the control performance of ATHP in the time domain. It is demonstrated that the proposed ATHP could adaptively adjust the optimum inertance-to-mass ratio by tracking the dominant wave frequencies in real time, and the proposed system shows better control performance than the conventional THP.

        One-Pot Preparation of Graphene-Based Polyaniline Conductive Nanocomposites for Anticorrosion Coatings

        Graphene-based polyaniline (PANI/RGO), used as conductive filler, was synthesized through a new one-pot emulsion polymerization technology. Graphene dispersion (RGO) was obtained by ultrasonically reducing graphene oxide (GO) in a hot sodium hydroxide solution in the absence of any toxic reductant, such as hydrazine hydrate. Sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), in which RGO sheets were dispersed, was synthesized using dodecyl benzenesulfonic acid (DBSA) and NaOH. In this RGO/SDBS mixture, polyaniline (PANI), doped with multiple acids (HClDBSA), was then uniformly polymerized on the surface of the RGO sheets. The experimental results showed that this reaction improved the dispersion of the RGO in the PANI system, and increased the homogeneous distribution of the formed PANI particles on the RGO surface. The synthesized composite material (PANI/RGO) had good thermal stability, electrical conductivity (about 11.71 S · cm -1) and water dispersibility. Based on its excellent properties, the PANI/RGO was combined with waterborne epoxy resin to prepare anticorrosion coatings. The corrosion resistance of these coatings was studied using Tafel plots, along with other critical properties tested by the national standards. The results suggested that the surface resistivity of the coatings could be as high as 2.48 X 10 8 Ω with the addition around 3 wt.% of the PANI/RGO meeting good antistatic standards. In addition, the antistatic coatings had outstanding corrosion resistance, as well as tremendous physical and chemical properties.

        Polydopamine Used as Hollow Capsule and Core-Shell Structures for Multiple Applications

        Polydopamine (PDA) capsule and core – shell structures with tailored structures and properties are of particular interests due to their multifunctions and potential applications as new colloidal structures in diverse fields. Among the available fabrication methods, PDA film onto colloidal particles followed by selective template removal has attracted extensive attention due to its advantages of precise control over the size, wall thickness and functions of the obtained capsules. The past several years has witnessed a rapid increase of research concerning the new fabrication strategies, functionalization and applications of this kind of capsules and core – shell structures, particularly in many fields such as drug delivery, catalysis, antibacterial, etc. In this review, the very recent progress of the capsule and core – shell structures based on PDA are summarized. There are basically two sections, including the fabrication process of PDA capsules, core – shell structures, and the various applications based on PDA.
