Modified heat of hydration and strength models for concrete containing fly ash and slag

Zhi Ge,Kejin Wang 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2009 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.6 No.1

This paper describes the development of modified heat of hydration and maturity-strength models for concrete containing fly ash and slag. The modified models are developed based on laboratory and literature test results, which include different types of cement, fly ash, and slag. The new models consider cement type, water-to-cementitious material ratio (w/cm), mineral admixture, air content, and curing conditions. The results show that the modified models well predict heat evolution and compressive strength development of concrete made with different cementitious materials. Using the newly developed models, the sensitivity analysis was also performed to study the effect of each parameter on the hydration and strength development. The results illustrate that comparing with other parameters studied, w/cm, air content, fly ash, and slag replacement level have more significantly influence on concrete strength at both early and later age.

Characterization of two novel γ-gliadin genes encoded by K genome of Crithopsis delileana and evolution analysis with those from Triticeae

        Zhi-Fu Guo,Li-Jun Zhang,Ming Zhong,Yu-Ming Wei,Li Zhang,Hui Ma,Hao-Ge Li,Li-Jing Chen,Jing-Wei Lin,You-Liang Zheng 한국유전학회 2010 Genes & Genomics Vol.32 No.3

By acid polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (A-PAGE) analysis,it was indicated that the electrophoresis mobility of gliadins from Crithopsis delileana (Schult) Roshev (2n=2x=14,KK) had obvious difference with those from common wheat in α, γ and ω region. Using homologous primers, two γ-gliadin genes (gli-Kr1 and gli-Kr2) were isolated from C. delileana, which had been deposited in the GenBank under accession numbers EU283818 and EU283821, respectively. Two γ-gliadin genes of C. delileana had the similar primary structures to the corresponding gene sequences from other wheat related species. The differences were mainly resulted from substitutions, insertions and deletions involving single amino acid residues or motifs of γ-gliadins. The repetitive domains of gli-Kr1 and gli-Kr2 from C. delileana are shorter than most of other sequences. By the alignment of γ-gliadin genes from A, B, D, Am, Au, S, Sl, Ssh, Ss and Sb genomes of Triticum and Aegilops, R genome of Secale (γ-secalin), Ee genome of Lophopyrum and K genome of Crithopsis in Triticeae, phylogenetic analysis indicated that two γ-gliadin genes of C. delileana could be clustered together with a γ-gliadin genefrom Ssh genome of Aegilops by an interior paralleled branch. It was the first time that the γ-gliadin genes encoded by K genome of C. delileana were characterized. These could offer precious information for better understanding the qualities associated with gliadins, the response in coeliac disease and studying the evolutionary relationship of gliadins in Triticeae.

      • Genetic Variants in ASCT2 Gene are Associated with the Prognosis of Transarterial Chemoembolisation-Treated Early-Stage Hepatocelluar Carcinoma

        Ge, Nai-Jian,Shi, Zhi-Yong,Yu, Xiao-He,Huang, Xiao-Jun,Wu, You-Sheng,Chen, Yuan-Yuan,Zhang, Jin,Yang, Ye-Fa Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.9

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies worldwide. Transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE) is the standardized therapy for intermediate stage HCC. However, the prognosis for HCC patients treated by TACE greatly varies. Thus, there is a critical need for finding biomarkers to predict the prognosis of HCC patients. The amino acid transporter-2 (ASCT2) is involved in tumorigenesis and progression of many malignancies. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive role of two single nuclear polymorphisms (SNPs, rs3826793 and rs2070246) in the ASCT2 gene in HCC patients treated by TACE. Materials and Methods: Two functional SNPs (rs3826793 and rs2070246) in the ASCT2 gene were selected and genotyped using the Sequenom iPLEX genotyping system in a cohort of 448 unresectable Chinese HCC patients treated by TACE. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards models and Kaplan-Meier curves were used for the prognosis analyses. Results: There was no significant association between two SNPs (rs3826793 and rs2070246) in the ASCT2 gene and overall survival of TACE treated HCC patients. However, we demonstrated that patients with early stage HCC carrying T genotype in rs2070246 showed better OS than those carrying CC genotype (P=0.023). Conclusions: We demonstrated that patients with early stage HCC carrying T genotype in rs2070246 showed better OS than those carrying CC genotype.

      • AntagomiR-27a Targets FOXO3a in Glioblastoma and Suppresses U87 Cell Growth in Vitro and in Vivo

        Ge, Yun-Fei,Sun, Jun,Jin, Chun-Jie,Cao, Bo-Qiang,Jiang, Zhi-Feng,Shao, Jun-Fei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.2

Objective: To study the effect of the antagomiR-27a inhibitor on glioblastoma cells. Methods: The miR-27a expression level in specimens of human glioblastoma and normal human brain tissues excised during decompression for traumatic brain injury was assessed using qRT-PCR; The predicted target gene of miR-27a was screened out through bioinformatics databases, and the predicted gene was verified using genetic report assays; the effect of antagomiR-27a on the invasion and proliferation of glioma cells was analyzed using MTT assays and 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) labeling. A xenograft glioblastoma model in BALB-c nude mice was established to detect the effect of antagomiR-27a on tumour growth. Results: qRT-PCR results showed that miR-27a significantly increased in specimens from glioblastoma comparing with normal human brain tissues. Th miR-27a inhibitor significantly suppressed invasion and proliferation of glioblastoma cells. FOXO3a was verified as a new target of miR-27a by Western blotting and reporter analyzes. Tumor growth in vivo was suppressed by administration of the miR-27a inhibitor. Conclusion: MiR-27a may be up-regulated in human glioblastoma, and antagomiR-27a could inhibit the proliferation and invasion ability of glioblastoma cells.

      • Micro Galvanic Cell To Generate PtO and Extend the Triple-Phase Boundary during Self-Assembly of Pt/C and Nafion for Catalyst Layers of PEMFC

        Long, Zhi,Gao, Liqin,Li, Yankai,Kang, Baotao,Lee, Jin Yong,Ge, Junjie,Liu, Changpeng,Ma, Shuhua,Jin, Zhao,Ai, Hongqi American Chemical Society 2017 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.9 No.44

<P>The self-assembly powder (SAP) with varying Nafion content was synthesized and characterized by XRD, XPS, HRTEM, and mapping. It is observed that the oxygen from oxygen functional groups transfers to the surface of Pt and generate PtO during the process of self-assembly with the mechanism of micro galvanic cell, where Pt, carbon black, and Nafion act as the anode, cathode and electrolyte, respectively. The appearance of PtO on the surface of Pt leads to a turnover of Nafion structure, and therefore more hydrophilic sulfonic groups directly contact with Pt, and thus the triple-phase boundary (TPB) has been expanded.</P>

      • Energy-Sustainable Traffic Signal Timings for a Congested Road Network With Heterogeneous Users

        Xiao-Yan Ge,Zhi-Chun Li,Lam, William H. K.,Keechoo Choi IEEE 2014 IEEE transactions on intelligent transportation sy Vol.15 No.3

<P>This paper proposes a novel model to address the energy-efficient traffic signal timing problem for a congested road network with heterogeneous users. In the proposed model, two types of agents, i.e., the authority and road users, are considered together with the interaction between traffic signal settings and energy policy (e.g., fuel surcharges). To model the route choice behavior of heterogeneous users, a multiclass stochastic traffic network equilibrium problem that considers vehicle delays at signalized intersections and travel demand elasticity is described and formulated as a variational inequality formulation. The authority aims to maximize social welfare of the transportation system by optimizing the traffic signal timings and fuel surcharges. A simulated-annealing-based solution algorithm is developed to solve the proposed model. The findings show that the implementation of the fuel surcharge policy can cause spatial and social inequity issues.</P>

[ $Ce^{4+}$ ]-Stimulated Ion Fluxes Are Responsible for Apoptosis and Taxol Biosynthesis in Suspension Cultures of Taxus Cells

Li Jing-Chuan,Ge Zhi-Qiang,Yuan Ying-Jin The Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengine 2005 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.10 No.2

Ion fluxes across the plasma membrane activated by 1 mM $Ce^{4+}$, cell apoptosis and taxol biosynthesis in suspension cultures of Taxus cusp/data were studied. The extracellular pH sharply decreased upon the addition of 1 mM $Ce^{4+}$, then increased gradually and exceeded the initial pH value over a time period of 12 h. The extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ concentration decreased within the first 3 h after the addition of $Ce^{4+}$, then gradually decreased to one third of initial value in control at about 72 h and remained unchanged afterwards. Experiments with an ion channel blocker and a $Ca^{2+}$-channel blocker indicated that the dynamic changes in extracellular pH and the $Ca^{2+}$ concentration resulted from the $Ce^{4+}$-induced activation of W uptake and $Ca^{2+}$ influx across the plasma membrane via ion channels. A pretreatment of the ion channel blocker initiated $Ce^{4+}$-treated cells to undergo necrosis, and the prior addition of the $Ca^{2+}$-channel blocker inhibited $Ce^{4+}$-induced taxol biosynthesis and apoptosis. It is thus inferred that W uptake is necessary for cells to survive a $Ce^{4+}$-caused acidic environment and is one of the mechanisms of $Ce^{4+}$-induced apoptosis. Furthermore, the $Ca^{2+}$ influx across the plasma membrane mediated both the $Ce^{4+}$-induced apoptosis and taxol biosynthesis.

Influence of graphene oxide on the transport and deposition behaviors of colloids in saturated porous media

Peng, Shengnan,Wu, Dan,Ge, Zhi,Tong, Meiping,Kim, Hyunjung Elsevier Applied Science Publishers 2017 Environmental pollution Vol.225 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The effects of graphene oxide (GO) on the transport and deposition behaviors of colloids with different sizes in packed quartz sand were investigated in both NaCl (10 and 50 mM) and CaCl2 solutions (1 and 5 mM) at pH 6. Fluorescent carboxylate-modified polystyrene latex microspheres (CMLs) with size ranging from 0.2 to 2 μm were utilized as model colloids. Both breakthrough curves and retained profiles of colloids in the presence and absence of GO in suspensions under all examined solution conditions were analyzed. The breakthrough curves of all three different-sized CMLs with GO were higher yet the retained profiles were lower than those without GO at both examined ionic strengths in NaCl solutions. The observation showed that GO increased the transport and decreased the deposition of all three different-sized CMLs in NaCl solutions. However, in CaCl2 solutions, opposite observation was achieved at two different ionic strength conditions. Specifically, the presence of GO increased the transport and decreased the deposition of all three different-sized CMLs in 1 mM CaCl2 solutions, whereas, it decreased the transport and increased the deposition of all three different-sized CMLs in 5 mM CaCl2 solutions. Comparison the breakthrough curves and retained profiles of CMLs versus those of GO yielded that the overall transport and deposition behaviors of all three different-sized CMLs with GO copresent in suspensions agreed well with the transport and deposition behaviors of GO under all examined conditions. The transport and deposition behaviors of CMLs in packed porous media clearly were controlled by those of GO under the conditions investigated in present study due to the adsorption of CMLs onto GO surfaces. Our study showed that once released into natural environment, GO would adsorb (interact with) different types of colloids and thus have significant influence on the fate and transport of colloids in porous media.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The transport of CMLs in quartz sand was affected by GO present in suspensions. </LI> <LI> GO increased all three sized CMLs transport in quartz sand in NaCl solutions. </LI> <LI> GO had opposite effects on CMLs transport at low and high IS in CaCl2 solutions. </LI> <LI> Adsorption of CMLs onto GO surfaces led to altered transport of CMLs. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • Monitoring of bridge overlay using shrinkage-modified high performance concrete based on strain and moisture evolution

        Yifeng Ling,Gilson Lomboy,Zhi Ge,Kejin Wang Techno-Press 2023 Structural monitoring and maintenance Vol.10 No.2

High performance concrete (HPC) has been extensively used in thin overlay for repair purpose due to its excellent strength and durability. This paper presents an experiment, where the sensor-instrumented HPC overlays have been followed by dynamic strain and moisture content monitoring for 1 year, under normal traffic. The vibrating wire and soil moisture sensors were embedded in overlay before construction. Four given HPC mixes (2 original mixes and their shrinkage-modified mixes) were used for overlays to contrast the strain and moisture results. A calibration method to accurately measure the moisture content for a given concrete mixture using soil moisture sensor was established. The monitoring results indicated that the modified mixes performed much better than the original mixes in shrinkage cracking control. Weather condition and concrete maturity at early age greatly affected the strain in concrete. The strain in HPC overlay was primarily in longitudinal direction, leading to transverse cracks. Additionally, the most moisture loss in concrete occurred at early age. Its rate was very dependent on weather. After one year, cracking survey was carried out by vision to verify the strain direction and no cracks observed in shrinkage modified mixes.
