Turbocompounding is a key technology to satisfy the future requirements of diesel engine’s fuel economy and emission reduction. A turbocompound diesel engine was developed based on a conventional 11-Liter heavy-duty diesel engine. The turbocompound system includes a power turbine, which is installed downstream of a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) turbine. The impacts of the VGT rack position on the turbocompound engine performance were studied. An optimal VGT control strategy was determined. Experimental results show that the turbocompound engine using the optimal VGT control strategy achieves better performance than the original engine under all full load operation conditions. The averaged and maximum reductions of the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) are 3% and 8% respectively.

Al15Mg45Li39Ca0.5Si0.5 LW-HEAs with a density of 1.45 g/cm3 was designed and fabricated by magnetic suspension furnace. The non-dendritic globular microstructures of Al15Mg45Li39Ca0.5Si0.5LW-HEAs were prepared by isothermal heat treatment,and the effects of isothermal temperatures and holding times on the microstructures of semi-solid Al15Mg45Li39Ca0.5Si0.5LW-HEAs were investigated by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. The results indicate that the phasesof Al15Mg45Li39Ca0.5Si0.5LW-HEAs consist of HCP phases and intermetallic compounds. With the increase of isothermaltemperature, the average grain size increases and the shape factor increases first and then decreases. With the prolongationof holding time, the average grain size increases first, then decreases and then increases again, and the shape factor alsoincreases first and then decreases. The semi-solid Al15Mg45Li39Ca0.5Si0.5LW-HEAs have a low coarsening coefficient. Compared with the as-cast Al15Mg45Li39Ca0.5Si0.5LW-HEAs, the ultimate strength, plasicity and hardness of smei-solidAl15Mg45Li39Ca0.5Si0.5LW-HEAs are improved by 25.7%, 18.5% and 89.7%, respectively.

Using values of the oxygen flux ratio (OFR = [O2]/[Ar]) ranging from 0 to 0.5, authors deposited a series of silver-oxide (Ag_xO) films on glass substrates by direct-current reactive magnetron sputtering (DC sputtering) at a substrate temperature of 150 ℃. The effect of the OFR on the film’s structural and optical properties was systematically investigated by using X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy and spectrophotometry. The Ag_xO films deposited clearly show an evolution of the film’s phase structure from the biphased (Ag + Ag_2O) structure to the biphased (AgO + Ag_2O) structure and then to the single-phased (Ag_2O) structure as value of the OFR increases. Accordingly, the film’s surface morphology, related to the film’s crystalline structure, clearly changes from a loose and porous surface structure to a compact surface structure and then to a pyramid-like surface structure with increasing value of the OFR. The novel porous structure may be attributed to the interruption of the silver’s growth course by the AgO on the film’s surface. Notably, a single-phased Ag_2O film is deposited by DC-sputtering at OFR = 0.5 due to the dual effects of thermal decomposition of the AgO phase and a combination reaction of AgO and Ag to Ag_2O. The oscillations both in the film’s reflectivity and transmissivity spectra are strengthened with increasing OFR, indicating an evolution from the metallic behavior of the biphased (Ag + Ag_2O) film to the dielectric behavior of the biphased (Ag_2O + AgO) film and the single-phased Ag2O film. The fitted optical absorption edges of the Ag_2O and the Ag_xO films deposited at values of the OFR of 0.5 and 0.33 are approximately 2.43 eV and 2.34 eV, respectively. The absorption edges are closely related to the direct interband transitions.

A series of <111> oriented Ag2O films was deposited onto glass substrates by using RF magnetron reactive sputtering at different flow ratios (FRs) of oxygen to argon. The Ag2O film deposited at FR = 0.667 was the best <111> oriented film due to dual contributions from both lattice strain and film stress. The films’ transmissivity of over 70% in the near-infrared region indicated that Ag2O films are not suitable for applications as transparent conductive films in the visible region. Ag2O films deposited at FRs from 0.467 to 0.800 had optical band gaps ranging from 3.266 eV to 3.107 eV. The redshift in the films’ absorption edge may be attributed to the decrease in the lattice strain with increasing in FR. <P>An actinomycete strain, designated YIM 690008T, was isolated from Daucus carota collected from South Korea and its taxonomic position was investigated by using a polyphasic approach. The strain grew well on most media tested and no diffusible pigment was produced. The aerial mycelium formed wrinkled single spores and short spore chains, some of which were branched. The whole-cell hydrolysates contained meso-diaminopimelic acid, glucose, mannose, ribose, galactose and rhamnose. The predominant menaquinones were MK-10(H4), MK-10(H6), MK-10(H8) and MK-10(H2). The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannosides, some unknown phospholipids, glycolipids and polar lipids. The major fatty acids were i-C16?:?0, ai-C17?:?0 and C18?:?1ω9c. The DNA G+C content of the genomic DNA was 63.1?mol%. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the isolate belongs to the family Nocardiopsaceae. However, based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic data, it was concluded that strain YIM 690008T represents a novel genus and novel species of the family Nocardiopsaceae, for which the name Actinorugispora endophytica gen. nov., sp. nov. (type strain YIM 690008T?=?DSM 46770T?=?JCM 30099T?=?KCTC 29480T) is proposed.</P>

The electrochemical properties of V2C and V2CT2 (T = O, S) MXenes with and without vacancy as anode materials for Na-ion and Li-ion batteries, have been studied using first-principles calculation. The present results indicate that the adsorption strength of Li-ion and Na-ion on V2CS2 are less than that of O-functionalized, together with a lower diffusion barrier. Simultaneously, V2CS2 monolayer exhibits lower open-circuit voltage (OCV) values of 0.72 and 0.49 V for Li- and Na-ion, respectively. Interestingly, the presence of atomic vanadium vacancy on V2CS2 monolayer exerts more prominent effects on enhancing adsorption strength than that of carbon vacancy for Li-ion and Na-ion, but with an exception for the diffusion of Li-ion and Na-ion on V2CS2 monolayer. The finding suggests that the V2CS2 monolayer is expected to be a potential candidate as anode material for Li-ion and Na-ion battery due to its lower open-circuit voltages and diffusion barriers.
Preparation of Chitooligosaccharides from Chitosan using Crude Enzyme of Bacillus cereus D-11

In order to enzymatically produce chitooligosaccharide using the crude enzyme preparation from Bacillus cereus D-11, we first studied the optimal reaction conditions. It was found that the optimal temperature for hydrolysis of chitosan was 55oC. The ratio of enzyme/substrate should not be lower than 0.13 U/mg in the reaction mixture. The enzyme activity was stable below 50oC. The products of enzymatic reaction were analyzed by both thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. Under the appropriate condition, chitosan was hydrolyzed using the enzyme preparation. The resulting chitooligosaccharides were purified and separated by Dowex (H+) ion exchange chromatography. From 4 g soluble chitosan, 0.95 g (GlcN)2, 1.43 g (GlcN)3, and 1.18 g (GlcN)4 were recovered.

Background: Prostate cancer is one of the main causes of cancer death, and drug resistance is the leading reason for therapy failure. However, how this occurs is largely unknown. We therrfore aimed to study the response of DU145 cells to cisplatin. Materials and Methods: Du145 prostate cancer cells were treated with a low dose of cisplatin for 24 h and cell viability and number were determined by MTT assay and trypan blue exclusion assay, respectively. The real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to assess responses to cisplatin treatment. Results: After 24h $2{\mu}g/ml$ treatment did not result in significant reduction in cell viability or number. However, it led to enhanced cancer cell invasiveness. E-cadherin mRNA was reduced, and vimentin, Snail, Slug, metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) mRNA expression increased significantly, a feature of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Conclusions: Short time low concentration cisplatin treatment leads to elevated invasiveness of DU145 cancer cells and this is possibly due to EMT.
