Identification and expression analysis of SQUAMOSA promoter-binding protein (SBP) genes in mungbean

SQUAMOSA promoter-binding protein (SBP) genes are important transcription factors involved in plant growth and development. However, the information about mungbean VrSBP genes is limited. In this study, we identified and characterized 22 VrSBP genes in the mungbean genome. Many characteristics of VrSBP genes were analyzed, and most VrSBP genes were considered to be expressed only in the nucleus. VrSBP genes were grouped into 9 subfamilies, with the exception of the g7 and ms subfamilies which are distinctive to Poaceae species. The g3 subfamily was the largest one with 6 VrSBP members. Eight segmental events were found among VrSBP genes, and all VrSBP duplicated genes were evolved via purification selection. The gene structure of VrSBP genes in the same subfamily was similar, and the conserved motifs are different among different subfamilies of VrSBP genes. Additionally, 12 VrSBP genes were considered to be the target genes of vra-miR156a. The types and numbers of cis-acting elements in VrSBP promoters were varied and VrSBP genes showed different expression patterns in different tissues. In addition, the protein interaction network revealed that VrSBP genes were involved in many development processes. Our study has provided important information which will allow the further functional characterization of VrSBP genes.

In a hospital, there are many clinical departments. In general, the hospital management often uses the index of cure rate (i.e. the rate of patients recovered by the cure of this hospital) to evaluate the medical quality of each clinical department. But, since the cure rate varies significantly with the rate of patient with severe disease, the evaluation by cure rate is unreasonable and incomplete. This paper proposes a new evaluation method called the cause-selecting evaluation method proposed by Prof. Gongxu Zhang (1990). Besides, this method can also be used to diagnose the abnormality of cure rate. The practical case studies check with the theory very well.

In the present study, the protective effects of gypenosides from Gynostemma pentaphyllum on fatty liver disease (FLD) were examined in rats treated with high fat and cholesterol diet and alcohol. Male SD rats were divided into seven groups: control, model, lovastatin, silymarin, gypenosides high-, medium- and low-treatment groups. The latter 6 groups were fed high-fat and cholesterol diet and administered alcohol intragastricly once a day. Body weight was measured every week for 10 weeks, and the hepatic index was measured after 10 weeks. Compared with model group, levels of serum triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), free fatty acid (FFA), and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level, malondialdehyde (MDA), serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity, and hepatocyte apoptosis were significantly decreased in gypenosides groups; while serum high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in both serum and hepatic tissue and mRNA and protein level of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPAR-α) were significantly increased. Moreover, hepatic steatosis and mitochondrial damage were improved. These results suggested that gypenosides could prevent liver fatty degeneration in fatty liver disease through modulating lipid metabolism, ameliorating liver dysfunction and reducing oxidative stress.
Stability and Stabilization of Stochastic Systems with Multiplicative Noise

In this paper, stability and stabilization of linear stochastic time-invariant systems are studied based on spectrum technique. Firstly, the relationship among mean square exponential stability, asymptotical mean square stability, second-order moment exponential stability and the spectral location of the systems is revealed with the help of a spectrum operator LA,C. Then, we focus on almost sure exponential stability and stochastic stabilization. A criterion on almost sure exponential stability based on spectrum technique is obtained. Sufficient conditions for mean square exponentially stability and asymptotic mean square stability are given via linear matrix inequality approach and some numerical examples to illustrate the effectiveness of our results are presented.

In this paper, we consider the feedback control on nonzero-sum linear quadratic (LQ) differential games in finite horizon for discrete-time stochastic systems with Markovian jump parameters and multiplicative noise. Four-coupled generalized difference Riccati equations (GDREs) are obtained, which are essential to find the optimal Nash equilibrium strategies and the optimal cost values of the LQ differential games. Furthermore, an iterative algorithm is given to solve the four-coupled GDREs. Finally, a suboptimal solution of the LQ differential games is proposed based on a convex optimization approach and a simplification of the suboptimal solution is given. Simulation examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the iterative algorithm and the suboptimal solution.
Interaction between Metalloporphyrins and Diazine Tautomers

The interaction between metalloporphyrins and diazine tautomers was investigated using quantum chemistry method. The results showed that the metal atom in the metalloporphyrin was not coplanar with porphin ring, and zinc porphyrin has the most extent of its non-coplanar nature. The most stable complex in nine complexes was iron porphyrin. NBO analysis indicated that the interaction between the lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atom and the unoccupied lone pair orbital of metal contributes significantly to the stability of the complexes. Through the conceptual DFT parameter and Fukui dual descriptor, the thermodynamic stability and reactivity of complexes were analyzed. The density difference function (DDF) analyzes were performed to explore the rearrangement of electronic density after the coordination interaction. NICS calculation indicated that metalloporphyrin aromaticity was reduced after the coordination interaction, and aromaticity of diazine tautomer was increased along direction vector of the coordination interaction force.
Critical Stability and Stabilization of Discrete-Time Stochastic Systems and Its Applications

In this paper, critical stability and critical stabilization for discrete stochastic systems with both state and control dependent noise are discussed via the spectrum technique. The Popov-Belevitch-Hautus (PBH) criterion for exact observability in a discrete version is presented. As applications, some interesting results on a class of generalized Lyapunov equations (GLE), unremovable spectra and dis-crete generalized algebraic Riccati equation (GARE) are obtained. Finally, the problem of assigning the spectra of discrete stochastic systems in a specified disk is considered and some numerical examples are given to demonstrate our results.

The regeneration of Candida glycerinogenes protoplasts is a major step following genetic manipulations such as fusion and DNA-mediated transformation. An investigation of protoplast formation and cytological examination was used to gain further insight into the loss of protoplast viability in osmotically stabilized support media. Protoplasts with the highest regeneration frequency (98.6% protoplasts/mL) were isolated, using lysozyme dissolved in 1M sorbitol osmoticum. The commercial enzyme preparations, osmotic stabilisers, and growth phase were effective in raising the protoplast yield. Sodium chloride was effective for protoplast preparation; however, sugars and sugar alcohols were better for protoplast regeneration. Sorbitol at a concentration of 1 M was used in regeneration agar for further studies. Regeneration of colonies from protoplasts was maximal (11 ~ 15%) when protoplasts were incorporated in cooled agar containing 0.5% glucose, supplemented with 1M sorbitol as osmotic stabilizer. C. glycerinogenes strain was highly sensitive to zeocin, so transformation of protoplasts and PEG-mediated was achieved with an improved transformation system, using plasmid pURGAP-gfp containing zeocin gene driven by a PCgGAP promoter from C. glycerinogenes to express gfp gene and be transformed into the 5.8S rDNA site of C. glycerinogenes in order to test the system for studying the yeast osmoregulation. We developed an efficient method for transformation of C. glycerinogenes, and parameters involved in transformation efficiency were optimized. Expressions of gfp at different levels were conducted under osmotic stress containing NaCl, KCl, sorbitol or glycerol for the recombinant strains. These improved procedures for protoplast isolation, regeneration and transformation proved to be useful applications in genetic studies for other Candida species and industrial yeast.
