Vol.81 No.-

Tourism commodities are one of the important factors in the development of the tourism industry as they represent local characteristics and unique culture of tourist destinations. Therefore, the development of local tourism products serves as an important stepping stone for vitalizing local tourism. This study was conducted to induce development of Harbin tourism products tailored to the needs and characteristics of Korean tourists, to differentiate existing Harbin tourism products, and finally to promote further tourist attraction and development of the overall Harbin tourism industry. The study consists of analysis on the Korean tourists’ awareness, satisfaction, and consumption behavior towards Harbin as a tourist destination, and also six selected items mainly sold in the Harbin tourism product market. Firstly, Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival was found to be the most impressive place for Korean tourists. Secondly, it was found that the main purpose of purchasing tourism products by the Korean tourists was for daily use, thus it is necessary to derive ideas and designs that prioritize practicality and aesthetics of the product. Thirdly, it was confirmed that existing Harbin tourism products are poor representations of the city of Harbin, thereby failing to hold regional representation of the area. In the future, it is necessary to select motifs that represent Harbin's history and cultural characteristics to develop tourism products. Fourthly, considering that the type of product tourists most wish to purchase when visiting Harbin is interior decoration, it is important to develop interior props that satisfy the aforementioned need for regional representation and practicality. Based on the research results, it is hoped that tourism products with better representation of the area can be developed to enhance Harbin's status as a tourist attraction, and ultimately rekindle the tourism industry of Harbin.

Characteristics of Observed Tropopause Height Derived From L-band Sounder Over the Tibetan Plateau and Surrounding Areas

        Xiaoling Jiang,Donghai Wang,Jianjun Xu,Yuwei Zhang,Long S. Chiu 한국기상학회 2017 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.53 No.1

The tropopause, which plays important roles in the stratosphere-troposphere exchange, is an interface between the troposphere and stratosphere. In this study, the characteristics of tropopause is investigated with the high vertical resolution daily sounding data during the period from 2008 to 2014 collected by the network of L-band sounder at 119 observational stations over Mainland China developed by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA). The results show that the tropopause height increases from the north to the south and has little correspondence with the station elevation. In addition, the spectral analyses and wavelet analyses are also performed to understand the intraseasonal variations of the tropopause. The results show that usually there are seasonal cycles with maximum in summer and minimum in winter. The strongest spectral band with period of 25-35 days is observed over the Southeast China. Besides, 20-60 days signals over the Changjiang River basin and the Tibetan Plateau has a good correlation to the Oceanic Niño Index (ONI), suggesting that the behavior of tropopause over the regions between 30oN and 40oN could relate to the Niño events.

Thermo-Mechanical Behavior of Long-Bored Energy Pile: A Full-Scale Field Investigation

        Gang Jiang,Dong Shao,Chenfeng Zong,Gen Chen,Jie Huang,Cheng Lin,Xudong Wang,Yuwei Zhang 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.1

A geothermal energy pile is a revolutionary piling technique that combines a pile foundation with a ground source heat pump system that not only supports the structure but also provides heating and cooling for buildings and bridges. The thermo-mechanical behavior of long energy piles in soft clay has rarely been investigated, despite their increasing utilization. A long floating energy pile with a length-to-diameter ratio of 66.7 was evaluated on its own and monitored in service of the supported structure in the city of Kunshan, China. With vertical mechanical loads, the experiment involved alternate cooling and heating cycles, allowing for careful analysis and assessment of the pile's temperature, stress, and displacement. Temperature-induced stress, axial force, and friction resistance of the pile shaft, as well as the change in displacement of the energy pile throughout building, were all studied. The field observations revealed without any surprise that a longer energy pile outperformed a shorter one in terms of heating exchange capacity with a more homogenous temperature distribution along the pile. Following a quasi-linear relationship with the temperature variation, the thermo-induced additional axial force soared with the larger length-diameter ratio of the pile and may even reach four times that of the pile under pure mechanical loads. Important additional settlements were also observed especially in cooling conditions. The shaft frictions along the long bored energy pile were found to have a complicated distribution, which requires further investigations.

      • Epigenetically Modified Bone Marrow Stromal Cells in Silk Scaffolds Promote Craniofacial Bone Repair and Wound Healing

        Han, Qianqian,Yang, Pishan,Wu, Yuwei,Meng, Shu,Sui, Lei,Zhang, Lan,Yu, Liming,Tang, Yin,Jiang, Hua,Xuan, Dongying,Kaplan, David L.,Kim, Sung Hoon,Tu, Qisheng,Chen, Jake Mary Ann Liebert 2015 Tissue engineering. Part A Vol.21 No.15

Epigenetic regulation of gene expression is a central mechanism that governs cell stemness, determination, commitment, and differentiation. It has been recently found that PHF8, a major H4K20/H3K9 demethylase, plays a critical role in craniofacial and bone development. In this study, we hypothesize that PHF8 promotes osteoblastogenesis by epigenetically regulating the expression of a nuclear matrix protein, special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 2 (SATB2) that plays pivotal roles in skeletal patterning and osteoblast differentiation. Our results showed that expression levels of PHF8 and SATB2 in preosteoblasts and bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) increased simultaneously during osteogenic induction. Overexpressing PHF8 in these cells upregulated the expression of SATB2, Runx2, osterix, and bone matrix proteins. Conversely, knockdown of PHF8 reduced the expression of these genes. Furthermore, ChIP assays confirmed that PHF8 specifically bound to the transcription start site (TSS) of the SATB2 promoter, and the expression of H3K9me1 at the TSS region of SATB2 decreased in PHF8 overexpressed group. Implantation of the BMSCs overexpressing PHF8 with silk protein scaffolds promoted bone regeneration in critical-sized defects in mouse calvaria. Taken together, our results demonstrated that PHF8 epigenetically modulates SATB2 activity, triggering BMSCs osteogenic differentiation and facilitating bone formation and regeneration in biodegradable silk scaffolds.

      • SEDUCING CUSTOMERS WITH FOND MEMORIES: THE EFFECT OF NOSTALGIA ON CONSUMER SWITCHING BEHAVIOR

Zhongqiang (Tak) Huang,Xun (Irene) Huang,Yuwei Jiang 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2018 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2018 No.07

Nostalgia refers to the sentimental longing for the valued past (Sedikides, Wildschut, & Baden, 2004). It is considered a bittersweet emotion, involving both wistful joy and sadness (Sedikides et al., 2004). Nostalgia is also a social emotion. Nostalgic memories typically center on social activities involving the self and close others (Wildschut et al., 2010). Prior research has mainly focused on the social and emotional nature of nostalgic narratives, and researchers have only recently started to investigate the motivations triggered by the process of recalling nostalgic narratives. For example, recalling a nostalgic event can heighten people’s motivation to savor such an experience and prolong it (Huang, Huang, & Wyer, 2016). In the current research, we posit that thinking about nostalgic events can trigger another motivation, namely, a desire to revive the past. Whenever people experience nostalgic feelings, they are likely to perceive differences between the present and their memorable past and desire to go back in time (Hepper et al., 2012; Sedikides et al., 2004). This motivation, once activated, can lead people to take actions to change their current state in the hope of reviving the past (Koole & Jostmann, 2004; Kuhl, 1985). This tendency of taking actions to make changes may generalize to subsequent unrelated situations (Kruglanski et al., 2002), and consequently increase consumer switching behavior (Jiang, Zhan, & Rucker, 2014). These predictions were tested across five studies in various consumption contexts. Our findings contribute to consumer research in two important ways, (a) by demonstrating a novel motivational impact of nostalgia on consumer behavior, and (b) by delineating a systematic influence of an unexplored but pervasive emotional factor— nostalgia—on consumer switching behavior. This research also offers practical implications. Conventional wisdom suggests that nostalgia can make consumers prefer products reminiscent of the “old days”. Our findings show that nostalgia can have broader implications for consumer choices and marketers may use it to manage consumer switching behavior.
