Light-induced negative differential resistance effect in a resistive switching memory device

        Xiaojun Wang,Yuanyang Wang,Ming Feng,Kaiyue Wang,Pinbo Bai,Yuming Tian 한국물리학회 2020 Current Applied Physics Vol.20 No.3

The negative differential resistance (NDR) effect was observed in a Pt/BiFeO3/TiO2/BiFeO3/Pt memory cell by using light-illumination as extra stimulation. Further, the coexistence appearances and gradually becomes obvious when the device is exposed to light-illumination, which display an excellent stability and reversibility of the coexistence of NDR and resistive switching (RS) at room temperature. Through analysis of the physical conduction mechanism, it is expected that a large number of photo-generated charge carriers are induced under light-illumination on the surface and interface of the heterojunction is responsible for the appearance of this coexistence phenomenon. Importantly, the NDR effect is strengthened by the competition transfer of charge carrier in the polarized electric field under light-illumination. This work shows that the coexistence of lightmodulated NDR and RS can deeply explore the potential applications of light-controlled multifunctional devices.

      • Expression and Characterization of RNA-dependent RNA Polymerase of Dendrolimus punctatus Tetravirus

        Zhou, Liang,Zhang, Jiamin,Wang, Xiaochun,Jiang, Hong,Yi, Fuming,Hu, Yuanyang 생화학분자생물학회 2006 Journal of biochemistry and molecular biology Vol.39 No.5

Dendrolimus punctatus tetravirus (DpTV) has been identified as a new member of the genus Omegatetravirus of the family Tetraviridae that may be related serologically to Nudaurelia capensis virus ($N{\omega}V$). To establish the function of DpTV RNA genome and to better understand the mechanism of viral replication, the putative RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) domain has been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The recombinant protein was purified on a Ni-chelating HisTrap affinity column and demonstrated to initiate viral RNA synthesis in a primer-independent manner but not by terminal nucleotidyle transferase activity in the presence of $Mg^{2+}$ and RNA template. Mutation of the GDD to GAA interferes with the residues at the polymerase active site and metal ions, and thus renders the polymerase inactive.

Extracellular products-mediated interspecific interaction between Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli

        Yuan Yang,Li Jing,Lin Jiafu,Pan Wenjuan,Chu Yiwen,Prithiviraj Balakrishnan,Guo Yidong,Wang Xinrong,Zhao Kelei 한국미생물학회 2021 The journal of microbiology Vol.59 No.1

The Gram-negative pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa adopts several elaborate strategies to colonize a wide range of natural or clinical niches and to overcome the neighboring bacterial competitors in polymicrobial communities. However, the relationship and interaction mechanism of P. aeruginosa with other bacterial pathogens remains largely unexplored. Here we explore the interaction dynamics of P. aeruginosa and Escherichia coli, which frequently coinfect the lungs of immunocompromised hosts, by using a series of on-plate proximity assays and RNA-sequencing. We show that the extracellular products of P. aeruginosa can inhibit the growth of neighboring E. coli and induce a large-scale of transcriptional reprogramming of E. coli, especially in terms of cellular respiration- related primary metabolisms and membrane components. In contrast, the presence of E. coli has no significant effect on the growth of P. aeruginosa in short-term culture, but causes a dysregulated expression of genes positively controlled by the quorum-sensing (QS) system of P. aeruginosa during subsequent pairwise culture. We further demonstrate that the divergent QS-regulation of P. aeruginosa may be related to the function of the transcriptional regulator PqsR, which can be enhanced by E. coli culture supernatant to increase the pyocyanin production by P. aeruginosa in the absence of the central las-QS system. Moreover, the extracellular products of E. coli promote the proliferation and lethality of P. aeruginosa in infecting the Caenorhabditis elegans model. The current study provides a general characterization of the extracellular products-mediated interactions between P. aeruginosa and E. coli, and may facilitate the understanding of polymicrobial infections.
