The mechanical properties of the Ni-Fe-based Alloy 718 depend very much on grain size, as well as the strengthening phases, γ' and γ''. The grain structure of the superalloy components is mainly controlled during thermo-mechanical processes by the dynamic, meta-dynamic recrystallization and grain growth. In this investigation, the evolution of the grain structure in the process of two-step blade forging was experimentally and numerically dealt with. The evolution of the grain structure in Alloy 718 during blade forging was predicted using a 2-D FE simulator with implemented constitutive models on dynamic recrystallization and grain growth. The comparison of the simulated microstructure with the actual grain structure of the forged parts validated the prediction of the grain structure evolution. The effect of dynamic recrystallization on the evolution of grain structure is highlighted in this article.

<P>Annexin II (Annexin A2, ANXA2) is a 36 kDa calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein that is located on the surface of most eukaryotic cells. ANXA2 is involved in several biological processes, including anti-inflammatory effects, Ca27+-dependent exocytosis, immune responses, Ca2+ transport and phospholipase A2 regulation. In our previous study, ANXA2 was identified as an up-regulated gene in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissue by cDNA microarray. In the present study, we have evaluated ANXA2 as a tumor-associated marker of HCC. We determined the ANXA2 levels in human liver tissues with HCC using real-time RT-PCR and Western blot analysis. For quantitative analysis of the ANXA2 protein in body fluids, we developed a sandwich ELISA system in which a polyclonal antibody and a monoclonal antibody specific to ANXA2 were employed as a capture antibody and a probe antibody, respectively. We detected the ANXA2 concentration in human serum using our newly developed system and evaluated its usefulness as a tumor marker. Overexpression of ANXA2 in human liver tissue was confirmed by real-time RT-PCR and Western blot analysis. The sandwich ELISA system for ANXA2 was developed for the detection of ANXA2 in human samples. The dose-response relationship between ANXA2 and optical density was linear in the range of 0-10 microg/ml and the sensitivity was 0.02 microg/ml. We determined the ANXA2 concentration in serum specimens using the newly developed sandwich ELISA. The serum ANXA2 concentrations of the patients with HCC (53.38+/-36.23 microg/ml) were significantly elevated when compared with those of normal individuals (28.81+/-24.94 microg/ml). These results suggest that expression of ANXA2 may be increased in HCC patients and may play an important role in liver cancer progression. This new ELISA method can be used as a tool for the detection of ANXA2 in human serum, particularly for cancer diagnostics.</P>
Creep Strain and Creep-Life Prediction for Alloy 718 Using the Omega Method

The creep behavior of Alloy 718 was investigated in relation to the MPCs omega (Ω) method. To evaluate the creep model and determine material parameters, constant load creep tests were performed at different initial stresses in a temperature range between 550 ℃ and 700 ℃. The imaginary initial strain rate (ε_(o) ) and omega (Ω), considered to be important variables in the model, were expressed as a function of initial stress and temperature. For these variables, power-law and hyperbolic sine-law equations were used as constitutive equations for the creep of Alloy 718. To consider the effect of γ" coarsening leading to a radical drop of tensile strength and creep strength at temperatures above 650 ℃, different material constants at the temperatures above 650 ℃ were applied. The reliability of the models was investigated in relation to the creep curve and creep life.

In order to understand more clearly the hot deformation mechanism of Alloy 718 and consequently to determine the "safe" process design window, a number of compression tests were carried out in the range of temperature, 927℃-1066℃ and strain rate, 5×10^-4/s-5/s up to the true strain of 0.7. Based on dynamic materials model, the optimal process design windows, where the deformation is stable, were proposed through the analysis of the constitutive relationships among true stress, true strain, strain rate and temperature. The instability of deformation was confirmed by observing the microstructure of the compression tested samples. Some characteristic microstructures of the localized deformation, such as twinning and shear band, were observed in the samples deformed under the unstable deformation conditions.

Congenital microphthalmia is a rare anomaly of the fetal orbit resulting from developmental defects of the primary optic vesicle. Chromosomal anomalies, genetic defect, infection, and prenatal drug exposure are the most common causes. Congenital microphthalmia is usually associated with other abnormalities, and cases of isolated microphthalmia are rarely reported. Congenital microphthalmia can be diagnosed by prenatal ultrasound by measuring the axial diameter of the eye ball, but the accuracy depends on fetal position and associated anomalies. We report a case of an isolated unilateral microphthalmia which was not diagnosed by prenatal ultrasound, because the only abnormal prenatal ultrasound finding was a small hyperechoic mass lesion in the eye ball and the subsequent scan of the orbits was limited due to fetal prone position. The hyperechoic mass lesion in the eye ball was finally diagnosed as a persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous with hemorrhage by neonatal magnetic resonance image.

Precast concrete technology is being actively investigated once again by domestic construction conglomerates and precast concrete production companies as a solution to labor supply problem due to labor cost increase and shortening of high-rise building construction time. Especially, the production scheduling of precast concrete members is an important management step directly affecting the economics of the technology and the construction schedule at the construction site. Nonetheless, there is no manual or a program of standardized process, to which a production manager can conveniently refer up until now, in the establishment of a production scheduling of precast concrete members. This causes inefficiency of its production schedule. Thus, this study aimed at developing the process and system, which can conveniently establish the production schedule for precast concrete members for the production companies, after the determination of the assembly schedule of the member at the construction site. The result of this study will contribute to satisfy the deadline for the production of the member for its production companies. And it is believed to be used as an efficient decision making system in the establishment of a production schedule of precast concrete members to promote the efficiency of the mold usage plan. Further, it is expected to be used as a guideline for the production manager to establish the production schedule of precast concrete members.
