In this study, the enteric-coated delayed-release pellets of duloxetine hydrochloride (DLX) were formulated using a fluidized bed coater. Three separate layers, the drug layer, the barrier layer, and the enteric layer, were coated onto inert core pellets. Among the three formulations (FI-F3), the dissolution profiles of formulation F2 were most similar to those of the marketed product, with similarity and difference factors of 83.99 and 3.77, respectively. In addition, pharmacokinetic parameters of AUC, C<sub>max</sub>, T<sub>max</sub>, t<sub>1/2</sub>, K<sub>e1</sub> and MRT of DLX for the developed formulation (F2) did not differ significantly from those for the marketed product in beagle dogs, suggesting that they were bioe-quivalent. Our results demonstrated that the in vitro dis-solution data resembled the in vivo performance of the drug. Therefore, this study has a positive scope for further scale up and development of the formulation for achieve-ment of the generic product.

Objectives: This study was performed to assess the comorbidity and associated emotional and behavioral manifestations in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) subjects, and the parenting stress and sense of competence in their mothers. Method: To investigate the comorbid conditions of ADHD, 102 ADHD patients(82 males, 9.58±2.65) and their caregivers visiting outpatient clinic were interviewed using the Korean version of Kiddie-Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia-Present and Lifetime. The Korean-Child Behavior Checklist, Children`s Depression Inventory, and Revised Children`s Manifest Anxiety Scale(RCMAS) were used to measure the psychopathologies in the subjects. The Parenting Stress Index/Short form and Parenting Sense of Competence Scale were also applied to the caregivers of ADHD patients. Results: Eighty-four(82.4%) of ADHD subjects had comordid psychiatric disorders. Comorbid oppositional defiant disorder, anxiety disorders, tic disorders, and elimination disorders were accompanied with ADHD in 54.9%, 24.9%, 19.6%, and 12.7%, respectively. Mean scores of Social Problems, Total Behavior Problems, and RCMAS were significantly higher in comorbid ADHD group than pure ADHD group. Parents of ADHD patients with comorbidity reported higher parenting stress and lower parenting sense of competence. Conclusion: Majority of ADHD patients had comorbid psychiatric conditions, and more psychopathologies and related parenting complications were associated with comorbidity.
Quench Detection Based on Voltage Measurement for the KSTAR Superconducting Coils

<P>To protect the KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) superconducting coils against a quench, the quench detection system based on voltage measurement was fabricated. It used a detect/dump scheme which detects the presence of non-recovering normal zones and activates a dump circuit that transfers most of the stored energy into a dump resistor. Even though it is desirable to discharge the coil energy as fast as possible after quench detection, a time delay between the quench detection and the complete dump circuit actuation will be necessary in order that the quench voltage is to be distinguished from various noises. The quench threshold voltage and the delay time should be set before operation for quench voltage detection so that the maximum hot-spot temperature could be limited to 150 K. This paper describes the hardware techniques to prevent the malfunction of the quench detection due to voltage noises arising from the KSTAR operating scenarios. During the first operation of the KSTAR machine, the inductive voltages and other voltage noises were measured and effectively compensated below voltage thresholds. A quench did not occur and the quench detection system was well operated without any false activation.</P>

A fifty-eight years old farmer was admitted with typical superior vena Cava syndrome. Cubital venous pressure was 42 cm H2O with marked swelling of face, neck, and, upper half of the body and headache. A tumor was noted in the posterior superior mediastinum by laminography. Preoperative cavography showed the occluded superior vena cava and maked collaterals. Crimped dacron graft was inserted between the left innominate vein and right atrial appendage. Postoperatively symptoms were relieved markedly, showing edema free face and decreased cubital venous pressure of 26.5 cm H2O. At the time of discharge-- one month after the grafting-. the patient was symptom free and cavogram showed patent graft. Histologically biopsied tumor was metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of probable bronchogenic origin. Total dose of 3150 r x-ray irradiation was administered during two weeks period, beginning on the eleventh postoperatvie day Up to this date, three months after operation, the patient is free of symptoms.
Effects of Extrusion Conditions on Pasting Properties of Potato and Potato : Wheat Flour Mixture

The purpose of this study was to develop extrusion process of fresh potato and to study the effects of extrusion condition on the pasting properties of extruded potato products. The blend of pressed potato and wheat flour and pressed potatoes were extruded at different die exit temperatures (110-160℃) and screw speed of 100 rpm using a twin-screw extruder with conveying, high and low shear screw configuration. The viscosity-related parameters, such as peak viscosity, through, final viscosity, peak time, and pasting temperature of the feed materials and extruded products, were studied using a rapid visco analyzer (RVA). Their water solubility index (WSI) and water absorption index (WAI) were also studied. The peak viscosity, through, final viscosity, and peak time of pressed potato extrudates and potato-wheat flour mixture extrudates decreased as die exit temperature increased. The WSI and WAI of potato products increased as die exit temperature increased. When high shear screw configuration was used, the values of viscosity-related parameters were lower than those when low shear screw configuration was used. The potato-wheat flour mixture products obtained different degrees of depolymerization from fresh potatoes and wheat flour depending on die exit temperature and screw configuration.
Immobilization of Xylanase Using a Protein-Inorganic Hybrid System

In this study, the immobilization of xylanase using a protein-inorganic hybrid nanoflower system was assessed to improve the enzyme properties. The synthesis of hybrid xylanase nanoflowers was very effective at 4°C for 72 h, using 0.25 mg/ml protein, and efficient immobilization of xylanase was observed, with a maximum encapsulation yield and relative activity of 78.5% and 148%, respectively. Immobilized xylanase showed high residual activity at broad pH and temperature ranges. Using birchwood xylan as a substrate, the V<sub>max</sub> and K<sub>m</sub> values of xylanase nanoflowers were 1.60 mg/ml and 455 μmol/min/mg protein, compared with 1.42 mg/ml and 300 μmol/min/mg protein, respectively, for the free enzyme. After 5 and 10 cycles of reuse, the xylanase nanoflowers retained 87.5% and 75.8% residual activity, respectively. These results demonstrate that xylanase immobilization using a proteininorganic hybrid nanoflower system is an effective approach for its potential biotechnological applications.
