      • Golgi Phosphoprotein 2 Down-regulates the Th1 Response in Human Gastric Cancer Cells by Suppressing IL-12A

        Tang, Qing-Feng,Ji, Qing,Tang, Yu,Hu, Song-Jiao,Bao, Yi-Jie,Peng, Wen,Yin, Pei-Hao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.10

Golgi phosphoprotein 2 (GOLPH2) is a very important biomarker in a variety of diseases. Its biological function is not clear, particularly in gastric cancer. To investigate the role of GOLPH2 in human gastric cancer, and determine its effect on the Th1 lymphocyte response, its expression and that of IL-12A were measured by real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry. The relationship between GOLPH2 and IL-12A was analysed statistically. The effect of GOLPH2 on the Th1 lymphocyte response was investigated with an in vitro co-culture system. The results showed that in human gastric cancer, the expression of GOLPH2 was significantly higher and the expression of IL-12A was lower than in normal gastric mucosal tissues, and the expression levels of GOLPH2 and IL-12A were negatively correlated. In addition, obvious down-regulation of the Th1 response was observed when lymphocytes were co-cultured with gastric cancer SGC7901 cells over-expressing GOLPH2. GOLPH2 down-regulated the expression of IL-12A, and inhibited the expression of TNF-${\alpha}$ and IFN-${\gamma}$. The results indicated that GOLPH2 down-regulates the Th1 response via suppression of IL-12A in human gastric cancer, and this might provide a target for the prevention and treatment.

Frequency was used to see the preference of traditional features. Consequently, “Security” was the most preferred one among all the features, “Environmental Friendliness” and “Visual Openness” were also relatively preferred by respondents.

      • <i>In Situ</i> Observation and Electrochemical Study of Encapsulated Sulfur Nanoparticles by MoS2 Flakes

        Tang, Wei,Chen, Zhongxin,Tian, Bingbing,Lee, Hyun-Wook,Zhao, Xiaoxu,Fan, Xiaofeng,Fan, Yanchen,Leng, Kai,Peng, Chengxin,Kim, Min-Ho,Li, Meng,Lin, Ming,Su, Jie,Chen, Jianyi,Jeong, Hu Young,Yin, Xuesong American Chemical Society 2017 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.139 No.29

<P>Sulfur is an attractive cathode material for next-generation lithium batteries due to its high theoretical capacity and low cost. However, dissolution of its lithiated product (lithium polysulfides) into the electrolyte limits the practical application of lithium sulfur batteries. Here we demonstrate that sulfur particles can be hermetically encapsulated by leveraging on the unique properties of two-dimensional materials such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). The high flexibility and strong van der Waals force in MoS2 nanoflakes allows effective encapsulation of the sulfur particles and prevent its sublimation during <I>in situ</I> TEM studies. We observe that the lithium diffusivities in the encapsulated sulfur particles are in the order of 10–17 m2 s–1. Composite electrodes made from the MoS2-encapsulated sulfur spheres show outstanding electrochemical performance, with an initial capacity of 1660 mAh g–1 and long cycle life of more than 1000 cycles.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jacsat/2017/jacsat.2017.139.issue-29/jacs.7b05371/production/images/medium/ja-2017-05371c_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ja7b05371'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

Effect of Galacto-mannan-oligosaccharides or Chitosan Supplementation on Cytoimmunity and Humoral Immunity in Early-weaned Piglets

        Yin, Y.-L.,Tang, Z.R.,Sun, Z.H.,Liu, Z.Q.,Li, T.J.,Huang, R.L.,Ruan, Z.,Deng, Z.Y.,Gao, B.,Chen, L.X.,Wu, G.Y.,Kim, S.W. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2008 Animal Bioscience Vol.21 No.5

Immunomodulatory feed additives might offer alternatives to antimicrobial growth promoters in pig production. This experiment was designed to determine the effects of dietary galacto-mannan-oligosaccharide (GMOS) and chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) supplementation on the immune response in early-weaned piglets. Forty 15-day-old piglets (Duroc$\times$Landrace$\times$Yorkshire) with an average live body weight of $5.6{\pm}0.51kg$ were weaned and randomly assigned to 4 treatment groups that were fed maize-soybean meal diets containing either basal, 110 mg/kg of lincomycin, 250 mg/kg of COS or 0.2% GMOS, respectively, over a 2-week period. Another six piglets of the same age were sacrificed on the same day at the beginning of the study for sampling, in order to obtain baseline values. Interleukin (IL)-1${\beta}$gene expression in peripheral blood monocytes, jejunal mucosa and lymph nodes, as well as serum levels of IL-1${\beta}$ IL-2 and IL-6, IgA, IgG, and IgM, were evaluated for 5 pigs from each group at 15 and 28 days of age. The results indicate that weaning stress resulted in decreases in serum antibody and cytokine levels. Dietary supplementation with GMOS or COS enhanced (p<0.05) IL-1${\beta}$gene expression in jejunal mucosa and lymph nodes, as well as serum levels of IL-1${\beta}$ IL-2, IL-6, IgA, IgG and IgM compared to supplementation with lincomycin. These findings suggest that GMOS or COS may enhance the cell-mediated immune response in early-weaned piglets by modulating the production of cytokines and antibodies, which shows that GMOS or COS have different effects than the antibiotic on animal growth and health.

Dependence of Electrons Loss Behavior on the Nitride Thickness and Temperature for Charge Trap Flash Memory Applications

Tang, Zhenjie,Ma, Dongwei,Jing, Zhang,Jiang, Yunhong,Wang, Guixia,Li, Rong,Yin, Jiang The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2014 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.15 No.5

$Pt/Al_2O_3/Si_3N_4/SiO_2/Si$ charge trap flash memory structures with various thicknesses of the $Si_3N_4$ charge trapping layer were fabricated. According to the calculated and measured results, we depicted electron loss in a schematic diagram that illustrates how the trap to band tunneling and thermal excitation affects electrons loss behavior with the change of $Si_3N_4$ thickness, temperature and trap energy levels. As a result, we deduce that $Si_3N_4$ thicknesses of more than 6 or less than 4.3 nm give no contribution to improving memory performance.

      • Prognostic Factors in Patients with Non-small Cell Lung Carcinoma and Brain Metastases: a Malaysian Perspective

Tang, Weng Heng,Alip, Adlinda,Saad, Marniza,Phua, Vincent Chee Ee,Chandran, Hari,Tan, Yi Hang,Tan, Yan Yin,Kua, Voon Fong,Wahid, Mohamed Ibrahim,Tho, Lye Mun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.5

Background: Brain metastases occur in about 20-40% of patients with non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), and are usually associated with a poor outcome. Whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) is widely used but increasingly, more aggressive local treatments such as surgery or stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) or stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) are being employed. In our study we aimed to describe the various factors affecting outcomes in NSCLC patients receiving local therapy for brain metastases. Materials and Methods: The case records of 125 patients with NSCLC and brain metastases consecutively treated with radiotherapy at two tertiary centres from January 2006 to June 2012 were analysed for patient, tumour and treatment-related prognostic factors. Patients receiving SRS/SRT were treated using Cyberknife. Variables were examined in univariate and multivariate testing. Results: Overall median survival was 3.4 months (95%CI: 1.7-5.1). Median survival for patients with multiple metastases receiving WBRT was 1.5 months, 1-3 metastases receiving WBRT was 3.6 months and 1-3 metastases receiving surgery or SRS/SRT was 8.9 months. ECOG score (${\leq}2$ vs >2, p=0.001), presence of seizure (yes versus no, p=0.031), treatment modality according to number of brain metastases (1-3 metastases+surgery or $SRS/SRT{\pm}WBRT$ vs 1-3 metastases+WBRT only vs multiple metastases+WBRT only, p=0.007) and the use of post-therapy systemic treatment (yes versus no, p=0.001) emerged as significant on univariate analysis. All four factors remained statistically significant on multivariate analysis. Conclusions: ECOG ${\leq}2$, presence of seizures, oligometastatic disease treated with aggressive local therapy (surgery or SRS/SRT) and the use of post-therapy systemic treatment are favourable prognostic factors in NSCLC patients with brain metastases.

Effects of Composition on the Memory Characteristics of (HfO2)x(Al2O3)1-x Based Charge Trap Nonvolatile Memory

Tang, Zhenjie,Ma, Dongwei,Jing, Zhang,Jiang, Yunhong,Wang, Guixia,Zhao, Dongqiu,Li, Rong,Yin, Jiang The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2014 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.15 No.5

Charge trap flash memory capacitors incorporating $(HfO_2)_x(Al_2O_3)_{1-x}$ film, as the charge trapping layer, were fabricated. The effects of the charge trapping layer composition on the memory characteristics were investigated. It is found that the memory window and charge retention performance can be improved by adding Al atoms into pure $HfO_2$; further, the memory capacitor with a $(HfO_2)_{0.9}(Al_2O_3)_{0.1}$ charge trapping layer exhibits optimized memory characteristics even at high temperatures. The results should be attributed to the large band offsets and minimum trap energy levels. Therefore, the $(HfO_2)_{0.9}(Al_2O_3)_{0.1}$ charge trapping layer may be useful in future nonvolatile flash memory device application.

A biothiols and H 2 O 2 responsive fluorescence probe for selective cancer imaging

        Yin Nan,Qin Guixin,Wang Yuting,Tang Jiali,Yao Xin,Xu Qingling 대한화학회 2024 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.45 No.3

Identification of cancer from normal tissues is important for early diagnosis of cancer. Combined detection of multiple tumor markers is important for accurate diagnosis. It is urgent to develop fluorescent probes that are responsive to multiple cancer characterizations for selective cancer imaging. Herein, we designed a novel near‐infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe ( IRAPA ) using a hemi‐cyanine skeleton as fluorophore and 3‐acrylamidopropanoic ester as recognizing unit that is responsive to both oxidative and reductive molecules. IRAPA has faint fluorescence emission as the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) process is blocked. H 2 O 2 , glutathione (GSH) and cysteine (Cys) can individually induce the hydrolysis of ester bond and give fluorescent NIR IROH . IRAPA shows low cytotoxicity and produces strong fluorescence specifically in cancer cells/tissues. While the normal cells/tissues showed very weak fluorescence. Moreover, IRAPA shows higher differences between cancer and normal cells compared to probes that only response to biothiols or ROS.
