A new-type photocatalyst of cadmium sul¯de carbon nanotubes (CdS/CNTs) was prepared bythe hydrothermal method. This as-prepared CdS/CNTs composite photocatalyst was proved toexhibit an excellent photocatalytic activity for degradation of tetracycline (TC). Specially, the95%-CdS – 5%-CNTs composite photocatalyst played the best degradation rate (81.2%) in 60 minunder the visible light irradiation. Moreover, this 95%-CdS – 5%-CNTs composite photocatalystpossessed great stability and could be used at least four cycles with almost no loss of photo-catalytic e±ciency. Furthermore, the as-synthesized CdS/CNTs composite photocatalyst wascharacterized by X-ray di®raction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Visdi®used re°ectance spectra (UV-Vis), Raman and thermal gravimetry (TG). In addition, thepossible mechanism and kinetics of photodegradation of TC with CdS/CNTs photocatalyst wasalso discussed.

In Corynebacterium glutamicum, acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS, encoded by ilvBN) is regulated bythe end products in biosynthesis pathway, which catalyzesthe first common reaction in the biosynthesis of branchedchainamino acids (BCAAs). In this study, conserved A42,A89 and K136 residues in AHAS regulatory subunit werechosen for site-directed mutagenesis, and the resultingmutations A42V, A89V and K136E exhibited higherresistance to inhibition by BCAAs than wild type AHAS. Furthermore, double-mutation was carried out on A42V,A89V and K136E mutations. Expectedly, A42V-A89Vmutation exhibited nearly complete resistance to inhibitionby all three BCAAs, which retained above 93% enzymeactivity even at 10 mM. Strains were further studied toinvestigate the effects of over-expressing different mutantilvBN on the biosynthesis of BCAAs. It was found thatproduction of BCAAs was increased with the increase ofresistance to BCAAs. However, the increase of isoleucineand leucine was slower than valine which showed asignificant increase (up to 86.30 mM). Furthermore, strainsharboring plasmids with different mutant ilvBN couldsignificantly decrease production of alanine (main byproduct). This work gives additional understanding of rolesof A42, A89 and K136 residues and makes the A42V,A89V, K136E and A42V-A89V mutations a good startingpoint for further development by protein engineering.

ZnWO4-CdS heterostructure photocatalysts have been successfully synthesized by hydrothermalmethod with assembling CdS on the surface of ZnWO4. The obtained composite photocatalysts werecharacterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Raman, thermo-gravimetricanalysis, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, photoluminescence and photocurrent measurement. The results show that the interface between ZnWO4 and CdS is well formed, and the CdS nanoparticlesare uniformly distributed onto ZnWO4 nanorods which could facilitate charge transfer and reducerecombination of photo-generated electrons and holes. Compared with pure ZnWO4 and CdS, the aspreparedheterostructure photocatalysts exhibit excellent photostability and photodegradation abilityof ciprofloxacin (CIP) under visible light irradiation.

Ras homolog enriched in brain (Rheb) and FK506 binding protein 38 (FKBP38) are two important regulatory proteins in the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway. There are contradictory data on the interaction between Rheb and FKBP38 in human cells, but this association has not been examined in cashmere goat cells. To investigate the interaction between Rheb and FKBP38, we overexpressed goat Rheb and FKBP38 in goat fetal fibroblasts, extracted whole proteins, and performed coimmunoprecipitation to detect them by western blot. We found Rheb binds directly to FKBP38. Then, we constructed bait vectors (pGBKT7-Rheb/FKBP38) and prey vectors (pGADT7-Rheb/FKBP38), and examined their interaction by yeast two-hybrid assay. Their direct interaction was observed, regardless of which plasmid served as the prey or bait vector. These results indicate that the 2 proteins interact directly in vivo. Novel evidence is presented on the mTOR signal pathway in Cashmere goat cells.

Background: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), integrating patient preferences into decision-making process, has been widely used in the multimodality therapy of lung cancer. This study aimed to estimate patient preferences for treatment and shared decision-making (SDM) modes concerning inpatient TCM treatment of lung cancer in Shanghai in order to provide a basis for clinical decision-making process on TCM therapy for lung cancer. Methods: This study was conducted among patients (n = 347) from nine tertiary hospitals in Shanghai by discrete-choice experiment (DCE) survey and Shared Decision-Making Questionnaire-patient version (SDM-Q-9) survey. The DCE was developed with the inclusion of the most relevant attributes at appropriate levels for the TCM treatment of lung cancer. The empirical data analyses of patients were performed using mixed logit models. Additionally, subgroup analysis was conducted. Results: In total, 347 respondents completed the questionnaire. All attributes’ coefficients were statistically significant for patients’ preferences. Patients showed strong preferences for increasing disease control rate, relieving nausea and vomiting, reducing the risk of side effects, and were concerned about monthly out-of-pocket costs. Subgroup analysis indicated that patients with a lower SDM-Q-9 score and those who were satisfied with medical services emphasized more importance of higher disease control rate. Furthermore, most of the patients (90.20%) self-reported a high willingness to use SDM during the decision-making process. Conclusion: In Shanghai, patients mainly preferred SDM and considered disease control rate as the most essential attribute in the TCM treatment of lung cancer. The study findings could underscore the importance of considering patients’ preferences and promote SDM.
Recombinant Goat VEGF164 Increases Hair Growth by Painting Process on the Skin of Shaved Mouse

To detect goat vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-mediated regrowth of hair, full-length VEGF164 cDNA was cloned from Inner Mongolia cashmere goat (Capra hircus) into the pET-his prokaryotic expression vector, and the recombinant plasmid was transferred into E. coli BL21 cells. The expression of recombinant $6{\times}his-gVEGF164$ protein was induced by 0.5 mM isopropyl thio-${\beta}$-D-galactoside at $32^{\circ}C$. Recombinant goat VEGF164 (rgVEGF164) was purified and identified by western blot using monoclonal anti-his and anti-VEGF antibodies. The rgVEGF164 was smeared onto the dorsal area of a shaved mouse, and we noted that hair regrowth in this area was faster than in the control group. Thus, rgVEGF164 increases hair growth in mice.

Ribosomal protein (rp) S6 is the substrate of ribosomal protein S6K (S6 kinase) and is involved in protein synthesis by mTOR/S6K/S6 signaling pathway. Some S6 cDNA have been cloned in mammals in recent years but has not been identified in the goat. To facilitate such studies, we cloned the cDNA encoding Cashmere goat (Capra hircus) S6 (GenBank accession GU131122) and then detected mRNA expression in seven tissues by real time PCR and protein expression in testis tissue by immunohistochemisty. Sequence analysis indicated that the obtained goat S6 was a 808 bp product, including a 3' untranslated region of 58 bp and an open reading frame of 750 bp which predicted a protein of 249 amino acids. The predicted amino acid sequence was highly homologous to cattle, human, mouse and rat S6. Expression analysis indicated S6 mRNA was expressed extensively in detected tissues and S6 protein was expressed in testis tissue.
Emission Projections for Long-Haul Freight Trucks and Rail in the United States through 2050

<P>This work develops an integrated model approach for estimating emissions from long-haul freight truck and rail transport in the United States between 2010 and 2050. We connect models of macroeconomic activity, freight demand by commodity, transportation networks, and emission technology to represent different pathways of future freight emissions. Emissions of particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and total hydrocarbon (THC) decrease by 60%-70% from 2010 to 2030, as older vehicles built to less-stringent emission standards retire. Climate policy, in the form of carbon tax that increases apparent fuel prices, causes a shift from truck to rail, resulting in a 30% reduction in fuel consumption and a 10%-28% reduction in pollutant emissions by 2050, if rail capacity is sufficient. Eliminating high-emitting conditions in the truck fleet affects air pollutants by 20% to 65%; although these estimates are highly uncertain, they indicate the importance of durability in vehicle engines and emission control systems. Future infrastructure investment will be required both to meet transport demand and to enable actions that reduce emissions of air and climate pollutants. By driving the integrated model framework with two macroeconomic scenarios, we show that the effect of carbon tax on air pollution is robust regardless of growth levels.</P>
A SDR Prototype for Backscatter Sensor Networks

Low cost and low power is one of the important reasons in the wide application of backscatter sensor networks. Based on LabVIEW and USRP platforms, this paper presents and implements a simple and configurable SDR prototype for backscatter sensor networks. The SDR prototype can apply to the multi-sensor environment with low power. The prototype consists of configurable backscatter transceiver with homodyne receiver and sensor nodes. It can reduce the power consumption of system efficiently through harvesting wireless RF energy and waking sensor nodes. The frequency division multiple access method with configurable sub-carrier is proposed, and the constraint conditions of sensing data pulse period for avoiding collision among sensors are presented and proved in this paper. The performance of the prototype is analyzed, and the closed-form solution of the probability of outage under the log-normal channel is also given and proved. Finally, the experiment and simulation show the SDR prototype is effective and feasible. The EVM value is less than 2.8%, and the probability of outage error between numerical analysis and Monte Carlo simulation is less than 1.86%.
