The Development of High Contact Fatigue Strength P/M Sprocket for the Silent Chain System

Recently, automotive engines have changed to the silent chain system in order to reduce noise and to improve reliability. High contact fatigue strength is needed for the sprockets of silent chain system. As a result, a high-contact-fatigue-strength P/M material was developed using the technology of surface rolling, which densifies the surface layer of sintered parts. It was established that the contact fatigue strength of the developed material was a great improvement over that of the conventionally used sintered material.
Role of Educational Technology for Contemporary Educational Issues

Japan Society for Educational Technology (JSET) founded in 1984 is a professional association of about three thousands of researcher, educators and others whose interests are directed toward improving and innovation of education such as learning environment and pedagogy. Then for JSET, it is the 30th anniversary memorable age this year. The object of the Educational Technology study is very wide range from an elementary, secondary and higher education to life-long study, furthermore, education in the company, in/non(outside) formal learning. These studies have played a big role to solve contemporary educational issues depend on national strategies such as e-Japan strategy, new IT reform strategy, future school and innovation of learning project to realize a vision of ICT in education. In this presentation, I report the present conditions of ICT in education and some problems in Japan, and new challenge at 30th anniversary in JSET.
In Vitro Experiment to Evaluate <sup>137</sup>Cs Dissolution in the Digestion Process of Mushrooms

Background: Several studies have reported that wild mushrooms contain high amounts of radioactive cesium (137Cs). After the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident, a significantly high concentration of 137Cs has been detected in wild mushrooms, and their consumption may be the cause of the chronic internal exposure of local consumers to radioactivity. Therefore, an accurate evaluation of the internal radioactivity resulting from mushroom ingestion is needed. Materials and Methods: The 137Cs elution rate through the cooking and digestion stages was evaluated using in vitro experiments. The edible mushroom Pleurotus djamor was taken as a sample for the experiments. The mushrooms were cultivated onto solid media containing 137Cs. We evaluated the internal dose based on the actual conditions using the elution rate data. For various cooking methods, the results were compared with those of other wild edible mushrooms. Results and Discussion: From the elution experiment through cooking, we proved that 25%-55% of the 137Cs in the mushrooms was released during soaking, boiling, or frying. The results of a simulated digestion experiment after cooking revealed that almost all the 137Cs in the ingested mushrooms eluted in the digestive juice, regardless of the cooking method. The committed effective dose was reduced by 20%-75% when considering the dissolution through the cooking process. Conclusion: We found that cooking lowers 137Cs concentration in mushrooms, therefore reducing the amount of radioactivity intake. Besides, since there were differences between mushroom types, we demonstrated that the internal exposure dose should be evaluated in detail considering the release of 137Cs during the cooking stages.
Novel Inversion Theory and Sensor Structure of Biomimicry Directional Microphone

Micromachined directional microphones(sound source localization sensor) mimicking an auditory organ of Ormia Ochracea have been intensively studied based on center-supported, marginally free1-Dor2-D diaphragm struc-tures. This paper first describes an exact mathematical theory of sound source localization based on the partial differential equation(pde) for mulation of the problem and the weighted integral method to obtain an exact direct algebraic solution of the sound distance and direction. This theory shows a Gaussian weight function on the diaphragm is inevitable in thetransduction of 1st and 2nd moments. An analysis was performed to obtain the weight distribution assuming an arbitrary thickness distribution of a shell-structured diaphragm. The best result was amarginally-supported face-to-face cantilever structure. We fabricated this structure using SOI wafer and RIE. The experimental results show a strong dependence of the vibration pattern on both zenith and azimuth angles, and a greatly enhanced sensitivity to inclined sound pressure.
