A Simple Timeout Algorithm for Point-to-Multipoint ABR Service

The ABR point-to-multipoint connection is now playing a more important role than before. Many consolidation algorithms have been proposed to solve the consolidation noise problem and the slow transient response problem. But few timeout algorithms are proposed to handle the non-responsive branches for the multicast connections. Chen’s algorithm needs exchanging control messages between switches [9]. Besides, it may mistake a responsive branch as a non-responsive branch because of fast changes in source rates, which causes wrong information in BRM cells and may lead to network congestion and data losses in the responsive branch. We propose a simple timeout algorithm which can handle the non-responsive branches without exchanging message between switches. The timeout value for each switch is computed locally. Simulation results show that the proposed timeout algorithm can efficiently handle the non-responsive branches and utilize the available bandwidth within a small period of time. In addition, our algorithm could handle the situation when the source rates change quickly.
Efficient Cluster Radius and Transmission Ranges in Corona-based Wireless Sensor Networks

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), hierarchical clustering is an efficient approach for lower energy consumption and extended network lifetime. In cluster-based multi-hop communications, a cluster head (CH) closer to the sink is loaded heavier than those CHs farther away from the sink. In order to balance the energy consumption among CHs, we development a novel cluster-based routing protocol for corona-structured wireless sensor networks. Based on the relaying traffic of each CH conveys, adequate radius for each corona can be determined through nearly balanced energy depletion analysis, which leads to balanced energy consumption among CHs. Simulation results demonstrate that our clustering approach effectively improves the network lifetime, residual energy and reduces the number of CH rotations in comparison with the MLCRA protocols.

The 75-year-old man underwent percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) for atherosclerosis coronary artery disease. He had end-staged renal disease with maintenance hemodialysis. Right hemiparesis developed ten hours after the procedure. A computed tomography (CT) of brain demonstrated a hyperdense sucal or cortial lesion in the left frontal lobe (Figure 1). This image fi nding suggested subarachnoid hemorrhage. Dual antiplatelet agents (DAPT) were disrupted transiently. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain showed high signal in the left precentral gyrus in diffusion weighted imaging (Figure 2) with corresponding hypointensity in apparent diffusion coeffi ciency imaging (Figure 3), suggestive of an acute infarct. After appropriate treatment for acute ischemic stroke and resuming DAPT immediately, he was discharged uneventfully a week later. Disruption of DAPT signifi cantly increased major cardiovascular events after PCI, especially within 7 days (1). In patients with neurological defi cits after coronary intervention is performed, urgent MRI is necessary to differentiate hemorrhagic strokes from ischemic insults with contrast extravasations from the damaged brainblood barrier.
