        Feeding behavior of the notorious invasive Mealybug, Phenacoccus solenopsis to exotic weeds using EPG

        The cotton mealybug, Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) is notorious for causing severe economic losses to a wide range of crop species. It is noteworthy that this mealybug performed different host preference and fitness within their host range. In order to determine the preference of P. solenopsis between economic plants and weeds, the feeding behavior of cotton mealybug on three widespread exotic weeds belong to Asteraceae family (Bidens pilosa L., Wedelia trilobata and Ambrosia artemisiifolia.) were determined and compared with cotton Gossypium hirsutum L. using electrical penetration graph (EPG). Compared with G. hirsutum, cotton mealybug took the shortest time for trying/detecting on leaf surface and spend the longest duration times for ingestion from phloem bundle tissues feeding on A. artemisiifolia. Results showed that A. artemisiifolia was the most adaptable host for cotton mealybug, B. pilosa and W. trilobata were less suitable ones, implying these plants vulnerable to damage by this mealybug. This consequence gave more evidence for the feeding harm of P. solenopsis and might provide a scientific basis for explain if exotic weeds play an important role in the regional dispersal, and exist as transfer host for pest divert to farmland during uncultivated season.

        이탈리아 선교사 羅明堅의 『中國地圖集』에 기초한 중문 원시자료에 대한 새로운 해석

        이탈리아 선교사 羅明堅(Michele Ruggieri, 1543~1607)이 제작한 『中國地圖集(Atlante della Cina, 1606)』은 현재 로마 국가당안관도서관(編號:手稿第492號)에 보관중이며, 이 지도책을 정리한 Eugenio Lo Sardo는 『中國地圖集』이 명대 羅洪先이 제작한 『廣輿圖』를 바탕으로 편찬되었다고 말한다. 본 논문은 『中國地圖集』 중 유일한 中文原刻版書本式單頁地圖인 『遼東邊圖』를 중심으로 분석하면서 이 지도의 출처가 『大明一統文武諸司衙門官製』라는 사실을 밝혀내겠다. 더 나아가 『大明一統文武諸司衙門官製』와 『中國地圖集』에서의 문자와 지도를 비교 분석하여 『中國地圖集』이 기초한 지도가 『廣輿圖』가 아니라 『大明一統文武諸司衙門官製』라는 사실을 규명하고자 한다. 意大利來華傳教士羅明堅 (MICHELE RUGGIERI, 1543~1607)繪製的一部 『中國地圖集』(Atlante della Cina, 1606)流傳了下來, 現藏羅馬國家檔案館圖書館 (編號:手稿第492號), 整理者歐金尼奧·洛·薩爾多 (Eugenio Lo Sardo) 認爲此圖集是依據中國明代羅洪先 『廣輿圖』 所編纂. 本文通過對稿本中唯一的一幅中文原刻版書本式單頁地圖—— 『遼東邊圖』的探討, 弄清此圖的來源是 『大明一統文武諸司衙門官製』. 進而將此書與 『中國地圖集』 的文字和地圖進行比較, 髮現羅氏的地圖集主要是依據『大明一統文武諸司衙門官製』 一書所編纂, 而不是根據 『廣輿圖』.

        Solidification of uranium mill tailings by MBS-MICP and environmental implications

        Uranium mill tailing ponds (UMTPs) are risk source of debris flow and a critical source of environmental U and Rn pollution. The technology of microbial induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) has been extensively studied on reinforcement of UMTs, while little attention has been paid to the effects of MICP on U & Rn release, especially when incorporation of metakaolin and bacillus subtilis (MBS). In this study, the reinforcement and U & Rn immobilization role of MBS -MICP solidification in different grouting cycle for uranium mill tailings (UMTs) was comprehensively investigated. The results showed that under the action of about 166.7 g/L metakaolin and ~50% bacillus subtilis, the solidification cycle of MICP was shortened by 50%, the solidified bodies became brittle, and the axial stress increased by up to 7.9%, and U immobilization rates and Rn exhalation rates decrease by 12.6% and 0.8%, respectively. Therefore, the incorporation of MBS can enhance the triaxial compressive strength and improve the immobilization capacity of U and Rn of the UMTs bodies solidified during MICP, due to the reduction of pore volume and surface area, the formation of more crystals general gypsum and gismondine, as well as the enhancing of coprecipitation and encapsulation capacity
