Hiccups are usually self-limiting and benign but can be distressing when they become persistent or intractable and produce significant morbidity. In the intubated patients in neurocritical care, persistent hiccups may cause respiratory alkalosis and are also associated with an increased incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia. Several pharmacological and nonpharmacological strategies have been devised for the treatment of persistent and intractable hiccups. The evidence to support or declare any intervention as harmful is scarce. In this review, we have presented the pathophysiology and workup, and a stepwise management protocol for intractable hiccups.
Cost Effective Image Classification Using Distributions of Multiple Features

Our work addresses the issues associated with usage of the semantic features by Bag of Words model, which requires construction of the dictionary. Extracting the relevant features and clustering them into code book or dictionary is computationally intensive and requires large storage area. Hence we propose to use a simple distribution of multiple shape based features, which is a mixture of gradients, radius and slope angles requiring very less computational cost and storage requirements but can serve as an equivalent image representative. The experimental work conducted on PASCAL VOC 2007 dataset exhibits marginally closer performance in terms of accuracy with the Bag of Word model using Self Organizing Map for clustering and very significant computational gain.

In this paper, we propose a classification algorithm for P300-based Brain Computer Interface (BCI). Brain Computer Interface (BCI) with P300 speller helps Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients to spell words with the help of their brain signal activities. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease in which certain nerve cells in brain and spinal cord also called as motor neurons, slowly die. The main goal of the proposed research is to develop classification algorithms for P300-based Brian Computer Interface (BCI). The proposed model can be used to restore basic communicating ability for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients in a reliable and fast way.

Objectives: The present study was undertaken to determine the modulatory effect of taurine on the liver mitochondrial enzyme system with reference to mitochondrial lipid peroxidation (LPO), antioxidants, major tricarboxylic acid cycle enzymes, and electron transport chain enzymes during 7,12-dimethyl benz[a]anthracene (DMBA) induced breast cancer in Sprague-Dawley rats. Methods: Animals in which breast cancer had been induced by using DMBA (25 mg/kg body weight) showed an increase in mitochondrial LPO together with decreases in enzymic antioxidants (superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST)), non-enzymic antioxidants (reduced glutathione (GSH), vitamin C, and vitamin E), in citric acid cycle enzymes (isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), alpha ketoglutarate dehydrogenase (alpha KDH), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) and malate dehydrogenase (MDH)), and in electron transport chain (ETC) complexes. Results: Taurine (100 mg/kg body weight) treatment decreased liver mitochondrial LPO and augmented the activities/levels of enzymic, and non-enzymic antioxidants, tricarboxylic acid cycle enzymes and ETC complexes. Conclusion: The results of our present study demonstrated the chemotherapeutic efficacy of taurine treatment for DMBA-induced breast carcinomas.
Triple Material Surrounding Gate (TMSG) Nanoscale Tunnel FET-Analytical Modeling and Simulation

In the nanoscale regime, many multigate devices are explored to reduce their size further and to enhance their performance. In this paper, design of a novel device called, Triple Material Surrounding Gate Tunnel Field effect transistor (TMSGTFET) has been developed and proposed. The advantages of surrounding gate and tunnel FET are combined to form a new structure. The gate material surrounding the device is replaced by three gate materials of different work functions in order to curb the short channel effects. A 2-D analytical modeling of the surface potential, lateral electric field, vertical electric field and drain current of the device is done, and the results are discussed. A step up potential profile is obtained which screens the drain potential, thus reducing the drain control over the channel. This results in appreciable diminishing of short channel effects and hot carrier effects. The proposed model also shows improved ON current. The excellent device characteristics predicted by the model are validated using TCAD simulation, thus ensuring the accuracy of our model.

The focus of this research is on examining the interrelationships among brand personality, human personality traits, and the propensity to spread online negative word of mouth (WOM). The results across two studies show that consumers with higher levels of neuroticism (or lower emotional stability) have a greater propensity to spread negative WOM for a sincere brand than for an exciting brand. Conversely, consumers with higher levels of emotional stability exhibit no significant differences in negative WOM across sincere and exciting brands. Implications of these findings for theory are discussed, along with directions for future research.

In recent times, multilevel inverters are given high priority in many large industrial drive applications. However, the reliability of multilevel inverters are mainly affected by the failure of power electronic switches. In this paper, open-switch and short-switch failure of multilevel inverters and its identification using a high performance diagnostic system is discussed. Experimental and simulation studies were carried out on five level cascaded H-Bridge multilevel inverter and its output voltage waveforms were analyzed at different switch fault cases and at different modulation index values. Salient frequency domain features of the output voltage signal were extracted using the discrete wavelet transform multi resolution signal decomposition technique. Real time application of the proposed fault diagnostic system was implemented through the LabVIEW software. Artificial neural network was trained offline using the Matlab software and the resultant network parameters were transferred to LabVIEW real time system. In the proposed system, it is possible to precisely identify the individual faulty switch (may be due to open-switch (or) short-switch failure) of multilevel inverters.
