Potential profiles in poly(3-hexylthiophene) field effect transistor

A potential profile along the channel in a conducting polymer field effect transistor (FET) has been measured directly using micro-manipulator with potential probing tip. The FET was fabricated with a head.tail coupled poly(3-hexylthiophene) as the channel semiconductor on a SiO2/n-Si substrate. The potential profile along the channel shows almost flat potential being equal to the source until near the drain. Then the channel potential abruptly increases near the drain, which has been observed for both linear and saturation regions in the drain current.drain voltage curves. The results are discussed in terms of carrier injection at the drain electrode and pinch off characteristics.

Background: The moderated neutron calibration fields using $^{241}Am$-Be sources and a graphite moderator have been constructed at the Facility of Radiation Standard (FRS) in the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). Materials and Methods: The neutron spectra of the fields were evaluated by the Monte-Carlo calculations and measurements using the Bonner Multi-sphere Spectrometer. Results and Discussion: The fields have continuous neutron spectra from several MeV to thermal neutron energy, with fluence-averaged energies of 0.84 MeV and 0.60 MeV. Reference values of fluence rates and ambient/personal dose equivalent rates were determined from neutron spectra by measurements. Conclusion: Currently, the fields are available for calibration or performance test of neutron measuring instruments.

Objectives: This study aimed to characterize the skeletal muscles of patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) using ultrasonography in order to investigate the effectiveness of ultrasonographic skeletal muscle assessment after TKA. Methods: This study included 50 TKA patients (TKA group) and 41 residents with osteoarthritis who have not received TKA (non-TKA group). Ultrasonography was used to assess the characteristics of several different muscles. Various postoperative outcomes were evaluated. Muscle thickness (MT) and echo intensity (EI) results were compared among operated knees in the TKA group, nonoperated knees in the TKA group, and more severely affected knees in the non-TKA group. For the TKA group, multiple regression was conducted to examine the association between skeletal muscle characteristics of operated knees and postoperative outcomes. Results: The MTs of the vastus medialis, vastus intermedius, and rectus femoris (RF) were significantly smaller and the RF-EI was significantly greater for both operated and nonoperated knees in the TKA group compared with the non-TKA group (P < 0.017). Several parameters of physical function were significantly poorer in the TKA group than in the non-TKA group (P < 0.05). Multiple regression demonstrated that RF-MT was associated with knee range of motion, knee strength, and physical functional performance in the TKA group (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The quantity and quality of skeletal muscles were lower in the TKA group than in the non- TKA group. Ultrasonography may be useful for assessing skeletal muscles in TKA patients because MT assessed with ultrasonography was associated with various parameters of physical function.

Electrical properties at the nanointerfaces of head-to-tail coupled poly(3-hexylthiophene), PHT and metals (Au, Al) in sandwichtype Al/PHT/Au diodes have been investigated using a nanomanipulator with the potential probing tip. It has been directly foundthat the highly insulating layer and the appreciable contact resistance are formed at Al/PHT with the thickness of several tensnanometer and PAT/Au, respectively. The bias dependence of the interface resistances at Al/PHT shows the origin of rectication. Ithas also been found that the interface resistance at PAT/Au is unexpectedly large, though the currentvoltage behavior is ohmic.The results indicate the contact resistances between PHT and metals at the nanometric region are important factors to determine the diode performance.

We describe a confusing case of GATA3-positive adnexal adenocarcinoma with a potential pitfall of leading to a misdiagnosis of urothelial carcinoma. A 62-year-old male presented with a subcutaneous nodule on the right lower abdomen around a scar from surgery for urothelial carcinoma in the right urinary tract, which had been resected 8 years previously. Histologically, atypical cells possessing ample cytoplasm and partial intracytoplasmic lumens were densely grouped in the subcutaneous expansive nodule and bilateral inguinal lymph nodes dissected. Decapitation secretion could not be seen. Neoplastic cells were positive for CK7, GATA3, and GCDFP15, and negative for CK5/6, CK20, p63, CD10, PAX8, HER-2, and uroplakin-Ⅱ. Neoplastic cells in the urothelium and the metastasized lung were positive for CK7, CK5/6, and GATA3, and negative for CK20, p63, GCDFP15, and TTF-1. A variable level of GATA3 expression in malignant tumors with apocrine and eccrine differentiation should be recognized by dermatologists.
