Learning nonverbal communication is very important when communicating in English. Therefore, teaching students nonverbal communication, would help our them understand the culture of the target language and the concept of communication. Korean, American and Japanese movies were compared and used to illustrate the points of this paper. To demonstrate the similarities and differences (Kinesic universals) of nonverbal communication between these three countries, movie scenes covering eight categories were chosen. Next, the selected scenes were sorted using 10 comparison criteria. By using movies in the foreign language classroom, students can observe the patterns of human behavior, both verbal and nonverbal, and appreciate that these patterns demonstrate both similarities and differences across cultures.

In this paper, properties of hydrologic cycle in three experimental catchments were compared and different types of a lumped parametric model were applied to understand the hydrologic cycle in the catchments. One of them is a forest catchment and another one includes the reclained upland fields and last one does terraces paddy fields. The comparison of hydrologic properties showed that the differences in land used have great influences on the soil properties of surface layer, which cause changes in hydrologic processes such as evapotranspiration and storm runoff et.al. By the runoff analysis models, good agreements between observed and calculated discharge from the catchments were obtained and it was found that the differences in values of optimized model parameters and water budget components reflect those in the hydrologic cycle among them.
A Study of Developing Movie-based English Textbooks

The purpose of this paper is to report the present status of movie-based English textbooks in Japan, and to introduce the ATEM (The Association of Teaching English through Movies) textbooks, explaining how and why they were first published. It is obvious that movies are very useful materials in teaching foreign languages since they demonstrate and describe many educational topics effectively. Books published in Japan focus on language acquisition, cultural aspects or political and environmental issues. The ATEM textbook, "Every Movie Tells a Story", was found to be very effective in the classroom and I am very hopeful that this study will be helpful and useful for other researchers to develop English books through movies, towards a better English education.

Background: Repeated application of whole-body periodic acceleration (WBPA) upregulates endothelial nitric oxide synthase and improves brachial artery endothelial function (BAEF) as assessed by measurement of flow-mediated vasodilatation (FMD). However, the acute effect of a single application of WBPA on BAEF has not been fully characterized. In addition, although a novel semi-automatic vessel chasing system (UNEXEF18G) has now been developed in Japan, the direct comparison of UNEXEF18G with a conventional method for FMD measures has not been conducted even if UNEXEF18G has already been utilized in a relatively large scale study. Methods: We have developed a novel semi-automatic vessel chasing system (UNEXEF18G) that can measure FMD on-line,identify time to peak vasodilatation (TPV), and determine the area under the vasodilatation curve (AUC). Thus, 45 min of WBPA was applied in 20 healthy volunteers (age, 34 ± 13 years), and BAEF was measured by UNEXEF18G before and after WBPA. Also, UNEXEF18G measured FMD was compared with those of a conventional FMD measurement method at rest in order to validate a novel UNEXEF18G measured FMD. Results: Single WBPA resulted in a significant increase in FMD (from 6.4 ± 3.4 to 10.7 ± 4.3%, p < 0.01), a significant decrease in TPV and a significant increase in AUC. In the validation study for UNEXEF18G, Bland and Altman analysis showed that UNEXEF18G measured FMD was almost identical to those of the conventional method at rest. Conclusion: These data suggest the usefulness of a new UNEXEF18G and that single application of WBPA results in acute improvement in BAEF in humans.
Gestural Interface and the Intuitive Interaction with Virtual Objects

In the study of virtual reality and mixed reality, the developments of an input device and user interface areimportant for the interaction with virtual objects and environment.However, a mouse or a joystick is commonly used inpresent systems. If we could manipulate a virtual object intuitively by using natural gestures without any sensors ordevices, the system would contribute to present reality. In this paper, we introduce atechnique to let a user move hishand in front of a camera to manipulate a virtual object, and the gestural movements are recognized in real-time toestablish an interactive communication with computational systems.
