Background/AimsWe performed a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating the symptomatic response rate to antibiotics in patients with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). Similarly, we performed a meta-analysis on the symptomatic response to antibiotics in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patients with and without SIBO. MethodsMEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases were searched from inception to March 2021. Randomized controlled trials and prospective studies reporting dichotomous outcomes were included. ResultsThere were 6 studies included in the first meta-analysis comparing the efficacy of antibiotics to placebo or no antibiotic. This included 196 patients, of whom 101 received antibiotics and 95 received placebo or no antibiotics. Significantly more patients improved with antibiotics (relative risk [95% CI] = 2.46 [1.33-4.55], P = 0.004). There were 4 studies included in the analysis comparing symptomatic response rates in IBS patients with or without SIBO with 266 IBS patients, of whom 172 had SIBO and 94 did not. The pooled response rate for symptomatic response was 51.2% in the SIBO group vs 23.4% in the no SIBO group, respectively. Significantly more IBS patients with SIBO responded to antibiotics compared to those without SIBO (relative risk [95% CI] = 2.07 [1.40-3.08], P = 0.0003). ConclusionsAntibiotics appear to be efficacious in treating SIBO, although small sample sizes and poor data quality limit this interpretation. Symptomatic response rates also appear to be higher in IBS patients with SIBO. This may be the first example of precision medicine in IBS as opposed to our current empiric treatment approach. Large-multicenter studies are needed to verify the results.
Toward a more practical unsupervised anomaly detection system

During the last decade, various machine learning and data mining techniques have been applied to Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) which have played an important role in defending critical computer systems and networks from cyber attacks. Unsupervised anomaly detection techniques have received a particularly great amount of attention because they enable construction of intrusion detection models without using labeled training data (i.e., with instances preclassified as being or not being an attack) in an automated manner and offer intrinsic ability to detect unknown attacks; i.e., 0-day attacks. Despite the advantages, it is still not easy to deploy them into a real network environment because they require several parameters during their building process, and thus IDS operators and managers suffer from tuning and optimizing the required parameters based on changes of their network characteristics. In this paper, we propose a new anomaly detection method by which we can automatically tune and optimize the values of parameters without predefining them. We evaluated the proposed method over real traffic data obtained from Kyoto University honeypots. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed method is superior to that of the previous one.
A Study of Vehicle Fuel Consumption Simulation using VHDL-AMS Multi-domain Simulation

The vehicle system is a multi-domain system that requires many branches of science and engineering. Therefore the development of the vehicle system requires the use of design methodologies that utilize simulations, which have grown increasingly sophisticated in recent years. Our research group proposed a simulation modeling method based on the VHDL-AMS language. This paper describes how VHDL-AMS is used to model of vehicle fuel consumption simulation. The fuel consumption is shown using proposed simulation model on the Japanese 10-15 mode. We examine the influence of the vehicle system with electrical load and hill climb resistance in the vehicle running resistance.
Effects of Plastic Strain and Strain Path on Young's Modulus of Sheet Metals

The effects of plastic strain and strain path on Young's modules of sheet metals are experimentally investigated using low carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and brass sheets of 1 mm thickness. These sheets are firstly deformed to different plastic strains under a few strain paths from balanced biaxial stretching to uniaxial tension. Then, a small uniaxial tension test specimen is cut from each deformed sheet and Young's modules is measured using electrical-resistance strain gauges glued to both surfaces of the specimen. The experimental results show that Young's moduli of the low carbon steel and stainless steel sheets decrease with increasing plastic strain, while those of aluminium, copper and brass sheets hardly change with the plastic strain. In all materials, however, the effect of the strain path on Young's modules is not necessarily evident. It is confirmed that Young's modules of the low carbon steel sheet can be recovered to the initial value of undeformed sheet by a subsequent annealing. In addition to Young s modules, the effects of the plastic strain and the strain paths on Poisson's ratio of these materials are also shown.

Plants defend themselves using various physical structures, including spines and thorns. However, some herbivorous insects can make use of defensive structures as food sources. A tortricid moth larva in the genus Cydia bores into thorns of the endangered Japanese honey locust Gleditsia japonica. The larva may escape predation by using the thorns as protection. A survey of sharp plant structures was proposed.
