<P>Fluorescent Au nanocrystals (AuNCs)–silica hybrid nanocomposite (FLASH) was synthesized by co-condensation of surface-modified AuNCs. Present FLASH nanocomposite exhibited four times the enhanced photoluminescence and photocatalytic activity compared to single nanocrystals. On the basis of these enhanced optical features, we successfully demonstrated in vitro fluorescence bioimaging of introduced FLASH to human cervical cancer cell line (HeLa). Beyond the confirmation of photocatalytic activity from the photodegradation of methylene blue as a model compound, the regional selective photodynamic therapy of HeLa cells under UV irradiation was also presented. Computer use at work is associated with self-reported depressive and anxiety disorder

Background: With the development of technology, extensive use of computers in the workplace is prevalent and increases efficiency. However, computer users are facing new harmful working conditions with high workloads and longer hours. This study aimed to investigate the association between computer use at work and self-reported depressive and anxiety disorder (DAD) in a nationally representative sample of South Korean workers. Methods: This cross-sectional study was based on the third Korean Working Conditions Survey (2011), and 48,850 workers were analyzed. Information about computer use and DAD was obtained from a self-administered questionnaire. We investigated the relation between computer use at work and DAD using logistic regression. Results: The 12-month prevalence of DAD in computer-using workers was 1.46 %. After adjustment for sociodemographic factors, the odds ratio for DAD was higher in workers using computers more than 75 % of their workday (OR 1.69, 95 % CI 1.30−2.20) than in workers using computers less than 50 % of their shift. After stratifying by working hours, computer use for over 75 % of the work time was significantly associated with increased odds of DAD in 20–39, 41–50, 51–60, and over 60 working hours per week. After stratifying by occupation, education, and job status, computer use for more than 75 % of the work time was related with higher odds of DAD in sales and service workers, those with high school and college education, and those who were self-employed and employers. Conclusions: A high proportion of computer use at work may be associated with depressive and anxiety disorder. This finding suggests the necessity of a work guideline to help the workers suffering from high computer use at work.
Location-Aware and Privacy-Preserving Approach for Child Safety in Ubiquitous Computing Environment

<P>In this paper, we establish our child safety system model related to the addressing contradictory issue of wireless sensor networks caused by the mutual authentication and privacy protection of an end-user. Based on the system model, we propose the novel location-aware and privacy-preserving approach for providing child safety over wireless sensor networks. Although we illustrate our protocol over the sensor networks, the proposed protocol can be operated by various wireless networks (e.g., WiFi and UWB) which can support RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication). Compared to a few previous works, the proposed approach can show the potential of enhancing accuracy with location information, preserve the privacy of an end-user, and provide the capability of controlling the child safety service to an end-user.</P>
The Success Factors and Ripple Effects of Korean Dramas in China

2016년 2월 한국 드라마 “태양의 후예”가 중국 인터넷 동영상 사이트 iQiyi에 한국 드라마 역사상 최고가인 회당 23만 달러에 수출되었다. 이와같은 인기의 발판은 “별에서 온 그대”가 없었다면 불가능한 일이다. “별에서 온 그대 신드롬” 은 한국 드라마의 대폭적인 수출 가격 향상과 한류의 새 지평을 여는 데 크게 일조하였다. “별에서 온 그대” 마지막 회 시청조회 수는 2억 회를 넘었고, 역사상 바이두 지수(실시간 검색 횟수) 또한 처음으로 400만 회를 넘었다. 그리고 2016년 현재 중국 동영상 사이트 조회수는 무려 50억 회에 달하고 있다. 이에 본고에서는 “태양의 후예”의 큰 인기에 가장 지대한 영향을 미친 “별에서 온 그대”의 중국에서의 성공 요인과 그 파급 효과에 대하여 문화적, 경제적 측면에서 심도 있게 분석하였다. 분석의 결과, 첫째, 시진핑주석 부부를 비롯한 중국 오피니언 리더들의 자발적인 “별그대” 홍보 효과. 둘째, 한국드라마가 경쟁력 있는 청춘드라마에 시공초월극(穿越剧), 공상과학극(科幻剧), 범죄극, 희극, 역사극 등의 다양한 요소의 융합. 셋째, 고금을 반복적으로 교차하는 다큐멘터리 스타일의 신선한 서사 방식. 넷째, 기존의 한국드라마에 없었던 인물 캐릭터의 대담한 변화. 다섯째, 한⋅중 양국이 공감할 수 있는 문화적 동질성 구현과 한 · 중 전통문화의 융합 등이 “별에서 온 그대”의 성공에 큰 영향을 주었음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 그 파급 효과로는 중국 치킨 시장, 명품 브랜드, 해외 직구 시장, 출판 시장, 부동산 시장, 미용 시장 등의 활성화로 분석되었다. 그 외 한국 주류 시장, 라면 시장 및 새로운 한국 관광 콘텐츠 상품 개발 등에도 큰 영향을 미쳤음을 발견했다. 이처럼 “별에서 온 그대”는 단순히 드라마 한 편의 인기에 그친 것이 아니라 중국에서 “별에서 온 그대 경제학”이란 용어를 탄생시킬 만큼 경제 전반에도 큰 영향을 미쳤고 중국 문화계에도 깊은 성찰의 화두를 남겨주었음을 알 수 있었다. In February 2016, the exclusive rights to stream “Descendant of the sun,” the big hit Korean drama, were sold to the Chinese internet video-streaming site “Aiqiyi(爱奇艺)” at the price of $230,000 per episode, one of the most expensive deals ever. Such popularity would have been impossible without “My Love from the Stars.” The syndrome of “My Love from the Stars” made a significant contribution to the opening up of a new horizon for the Korean wave, and in leading a significant increase in the export price of Korean dramas. The number of viewings of the last episode of “My Love from the Stars” passed 200 million, passing 4 million for the first time in Chinese history according to the “Baidu Index (the number of real-time searching hits).” This number has continued to increase, reaching 5 billion as of 2016. In this regard, this paper thoroughly analyzes the success factors of “My Love from the Stars,” which had such a great impact on the current popularity of “Descendant of the Sun,” and its ripple effects, from both the cultural and economic aspects. In the results, several main success factors of “My Love from the Stars” are shown, such as the publicity effect of the Chinese opinion leaders, the diversity of genres and fusion, the unique descriptive method of the documentary style, the bold change of the characters, the fusion of the traditional culture of Korea and China, etc. The ripple effects can be seen in the revitalization of the Chinese poultry market, the luxury brand market, overseas purchasing agent services, the apartment remodeling industry, and the fashion and beauty market. In addition, we have seen a big impact on the Korean drinks industry, the instant noodle industry, the development of tourism attractions, etc.
Polyurethane triblock copolymer gate dielectrics for low-voltage organic thin-film transistors

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Novel polyurethane triblock copolymers comprising polycaprolactone diol (PCL), 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HMDI), and polyethylene glycol (PEG) were synthesized for use as gate dielectric for organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). Thin films of polyurethane gate dielectrics processed from solution exhibit excellent insulating properties (∼7×10<SUP>−7</SUP> A/cm<SUP>2</SUP> at 1V) as well as large areal capacitance (170nF/cm<SUP>2</SUP>) with film thickness of ∼50nm. OTFTs are fabricated with representative n-channel organic semiconductor (N,N′-ditridecylperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide; PTCDI-C13) using the developed gate dielectrics, and the resulting devices show decent electrical performance with negligible hysteresis at low operating voltage of 1V.</P>
