Two to Five Channel Audio Processing based on Center Channel Extraction Algorithm

In this paper we propose an algorithm of converting two channel audio materials to five channel. An effective sound distribution to the surround channel is based on the computation of cross correlation and a non linear mapping function. An algorithm of extracting center channel using center channel estimator is proposed. A robust stereo image is obtained using center channel extraction algorithm. Informal listening tests comparing this scheme with other methods showed that proposed algorithm offer better performance than previous up-mix strategies.

<P>In this paper, we propose a new feature selection algorithm for multi-class classification. The proposed algorithm is based on Gaussian mixture models (GMMs) of the features, and it uses the distance between the two least separable classes as a metric for feature selection. The proposed system was tested with a support vector machine (SVM) for multi-class classification of music. Results show that the proposed feature selection scheme is superior to conventional schemes.</P>
