The 21st Century Frontier Program, which is one of the R&D programs funded by Korean government, was launched in 1999 to elevate the status of Korean science and engineering capabilities to the advanced nation in the strategic fields. Currently, 23 different fields of science and engineering programs are carried out by researchers in institutes, universities and industries. Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP) was formulated in 2001 to develop the advanced materials as well as to improve the parts manufacturing process. The main role of CAMP is proposing and forecasting the long term vision in Materials Processing Technology and also supporting the project teams for their best performance in R&D. The CAMP program consists of 5 research areas such as, Multi-layer Ceramic Electronic Parts, Powder Formed Precision Parts, 3 Dimensional Polymer Based Composites, Functional Metal Sheets, Parts Integration Technology. An introduction of R & D activities at CAMP, specially focusing on powder metallurgy, wil be presented.

Djungarian hamsters show distinct seasonal rhythms in several physiological parameters. One of them is daily torpor that occurs in winter with decreased body temperature (about 1O-20$^{\circ}$C) during daytime. Daily torpor is induced by short-day photoperiod, food restriction and castration. But the mechanism to induce daily torpor has not been clarified. In the present study, we tried to clarify the process of daily torpor induction in detail. Adult male hamsters were kept in long photoperiod and high temperature (LP-HT) before the experiment and, thereafter, the animals were transferred to short photoperiod and low temperature (SP-LT), and they were kept in this condition for about six months. The daily rhythms of locomotor activity and body temperature were recorded every three-minutes by using the Minimitter telemetry system. Locomotor activity and body temperature showed very closely synchronized rhythms. All animals under LP-HT showed daily rhythms with higher locomotor activity and body temperature in nighttime than in daytime. Under SP-LT, there were two types of animals with and without showing daily torpor. Thus, they have individual differences in the response to SP -LT.
Domain Contribution in the Electric-field-induced Strain of PZT Ceramics

The contribution of the non-$180^{\circ}C$ domains to the electric-field-induced strains (EFI-strains) of PZT ceramics was evaluated by an XRD method and by an interferometric method. The XRD intensity ratio of 200 and 002 diffraction peaks of tetragonal PZT was measured under strong electric fields. The amount of the $90^{\circ}$ domain reorientation was evaluated and the strain due to the domain reorientation was calculated. It was confirmed that the EFI-strain of PZT ceramics was equal to the sum of the strain calculated from the d$_33$ constant determined by the resonance-antiresonance method and the strain due to the $90^{\circ}$ domain reorientation. The amount of the $90^{\circ}$domain reorientation has a linear relation with the c/a ratio in the "soft" PZT ceramics. A Mech-Zehnder interferometer was constructed to measure the EFI-strains vs. electric-field curves of PZT ceramics as a function of frequency. The EFI-strain vs. electric-field curve showed a hysteresis due to the effect of the non-$180^{\circ}$ domain reorientation when the applied voltage was high and its frequency was low. The apparent piezoelectric constant increased from the d$_33$ value determined by the resonance-antiresonance method with decreasing frequency. This deviation was attributed to the non-$180^{\circ}$ domain contribution.tribution.

The Aerosol Deposition (AD) process will be proposed as a new fabrication technology for the integrated RF modules. $\alpha$-A1$_2$O$_3$ thick films were successfully grown on glass and Al substrates at room temperature by the AD process. Relative dielectric permittivity and loss tangent of the $Al_2$O$_3$ thick films on Al showed 9.5 and 0.005, respectively. To form microstrip lines on aerosol-deposited A1903 thick films, copper electroplating and lithography processes were employed, and the square-type cross section with sharp edges could be obtained. Low-pass LC filters with 10 GHz cutoff frequency were simulated by an electromagnetic analysis, exhibiting the validity of the AD process as a fabrication technology f3r integrated RF modules.

From July 1978 to April 1989 Taiwan adopted a snake system by allowing the foreign exchange rate to fluctuate within a narrow band of the centered rate. Using monthly data on the Taiwan dollar/U.S. dollar exchange rate, we show that inference on the purchasing power parity hypothesis is sensitive to whether we incorporate double truncation and autoregressive and moving average error terms into the regression model. Many retailers and food service providers offer programs as part of their loyalty programs in which customers are given stamps for each purchase of a qualifying product or service and redeemed for a reward once a certain number of stamps have been accumulated. We identify which stimuli in such goal-directed motivational promotions induce customers to participate in the program.

<P>A new measuring method and analyzing procedure were proposed to determine the complex dielectric permittivity of materials with relatively high permittivity using an RF-impedance analyzer. Samples used for the measurement were (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 and Ba(Zr0.25Ti0.75)O3 ceramics. Micro planar electrodes were used for the measurement of complex admittance of these samples. Electromagnetic simulations were carried out for determining the relative dielectric permittivity and dielectric loss. The complex dielectric permittivity vs. frequency curves of Ba(Zr0.25Ti0.75)O3 showed a broad dielectric relaxation, while that of (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 was almost flat up to 3 GHz.</P>
