        Development of Single-tractor Integrated Multi-purpose Forage Harvester

        To improve the insufficient mechanized forage harvesting system, an integrated forage harvester that produces midsize round bales was developed. Methods: The harvesting performance of the developed harvester was tested in a forage plantation. The harvesting performance was evaluated by investigating the bale production performance and residue ratios of the harvester at three levels of tractor driving speeds. Results: The bales outputs per hour by driving speed shown by the harvester were 30 bales (6.8 MT) at 2.3 km/h, 36 bales (8.4 MT) at 3.2 km/h, and 44 bales (10.5 MT) at 5.1 km/h in the case of rye-straw. In the case of rice-straw, they were 43 bales (8.8 MT) at 4.3 km/h, 44 bales (9.7 MT) at 5.0 km/h, and 48 bales (10.7 MT) at 6.2 km/h. In the case of Italian ryegrass (IRG), they were 35 bales (10.7 MT) at 7.0 km/h, 37 bales (12.0 MT) at 8.3 km/h, and 38 bales (13.2 MT) at 9.5 km/h. The average ratios of residues to the available quantities were 2.61% in the case of rye-straw, 1.89% in the case of rice-straw, and 1.57% in the case of IRG. When residues smaller than 200 mm, which cannot be collected, were excluded, the residue ratios of all crops were good, as they did not exceed 1.0%. Conclusions: Since the baling and wrapping functions, which had been separately operated, were integrated into the developed harvester, the developed harvester is expected to maximize bale production efficiency and increase labor productivity, thereby increasing farming profitability.

        Analysis of Bale Surface Pressure According to Stretch Film Layer Changes on Round Bale Wrapping

        Purpose: This paper presents an appropriate wrapping method by analyzing the pressure distribution applied to a bale surface, along with the change in pressure according to an increase in the number of film layers in rice straw bales, which account for 74% of the total bulky feed supply in Korea. Methods: A model with the shape of an actual bale was fabricated to analyze the distribution of surface pressure in bale wrapping, and the pressure was measured. Experiments were conducted to analyze the pressure using eight different layer numbers (2, 4, 6, 8 10, 12, 14, and 16 layers) at five wrapping speeds (27, 29, 31, 33, and 35 rpm). Results: The maximum pressure applied to a circular bale by the film occurred at the center of the end of the bale, whereas the minimum pressure occurred at the center of the bale side. An extreme value ratio between the minimum and maximum pressures was distributed as 8.5-56.6%, which was improved with an increase in rotation speed. The an uneven pressure distribution occurred because the number of film overlaps was 8.24-times greater at the center of the bale`s end than at the center of the bale side. At a level 5 rotation speed, the minimum pressure was <sub>PLV5-M1 </sub>= 0.0625σ <sup>2</sup> + 36.173σ - 36.753 (R<sup>2</sup> = 0.9845) at M<sub>1</sub>, and the maximum pressure was P<sub>LV5-M6 </sub>= 5.5552σ <sup>2</sup> + 41.05σ - 39.071 at M<sub>2</sub>, revealing a correlation of R<sup>2</sup> = 0.9983. Conclusions: To replace four layers with six layers, 2-4 layers were added only to the side of the bale, and the minimum pressure at M1 was then improved from that at four layers to that at six layers, and the amount of film consumed for 4-6 layers was reduced by 84.6%.

        Analysis of Static Lateral Stability Using Mathematical Simulations for 3-Axis Tractor-Baler System

        Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the applicability of a tractor-baler system equipped with a newly developed round baler by conducting stability analyses via static-state mathematical simulations and verification experiments for the tractor equipped with a loader. Methods: The centers of gravity of the tractor and baler were calculated to analyze the transverse overturning of the system. This overturning of the system was analyzed by applying mathematical equations presented in previous research and comparing the results with those obtained by the newly developed mathematical simulation. For the case of the tractor equipped with a loader, mathematical simulation results and experimental values from verification experiments were compared and verified. Results: The center of gravity of the system became lower after the baler was attached to the tractor and the angle of transverse overturning of the system steadily increased or decreased as the deflection angle increased or decreased between 0° and 180° on the same gradient. In the results of the simulations performed by applying mathematical equations from previous research, right transverse overturning occurred when the tilt angle was at least 19.5° and the range of deflection angles was from 82° to 262° in counter clockwise. Additionally, left transverse overturning also occurred at tilt angles of at least 19.5° and the range of deflection angles was from 259° to 79° in counter clockwise. Under the 0° deflection angle condition, in simulations of the tractor equipped with a loader, transverse overturning occurred at 17.9°, which is a 2.3% change from the results of the verification experiment (17.5°). The simulations applied the center of gravity and the correlations between the tilt angles, formed by individual wheel ground contact points excluding wheel radius and hinge point height, which cannot be easily measured, for the convenient use of mathematical equations. The results indicated that both left and right transverse overturning occurred at 19.5°. Conclusions: The transverse overturning stability evaluation of the system, conducted via mathematical equation modeling, was stable enough to replace the mathematical equations proposed by previous researchers. The verification experiments and their results indicated that the system is workable at 12°, which is the tolerance limit for agricultural machines on the sloped lands in South Korea, and 15°, which is the tolerance limit for agricultural machines on the sloped grasslands of hay in Japan.

        Promotion Effectiveness of Coupons and Reward Points by Fashion Product Categories at an Online Retailer

        본 연구는 패션제품의 카테고리 별로 다양한 구매촉진 효율성에 관한 이해를 높이고자 하는 목적으로 온라인 쇼핑 환경에서 실행되었다. 오프라인 소매점과 마찬가지로 온라인 소매점도 쿠폰이나 보상프로그램과 같은 다양한 프로모션 프로그램을 통해 고객들의 제품 구매를 촉진시킨다. 하지만, 프로모션 프로그램의 효과를 극대화하기 위해서 온라인 소매점이 취급하는 제품의 종류와 특징에 따라 다른 판촉 전략을 사용해야 할 필요성이 있다. 이에 본 연구는 한 온라인 쇼핑몰의 371 패션브랜드의 실제 거래 데이터를 이용하여 쿠폰과 보상 포인트의 사용이 구매금액에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았으며, 패션제품 카테고리별 조절효과 또한 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 쿠폰과 보상 포인트 모두가 구매금액의 증가에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났지만, 쿠폰이 구매를 더욱 촉진시키는 상대적으로 효과적인 프로모션 방법임을 확인하였다. 또한, 패션제품 카테고리별로 쿠폰과 보상 포인트의 사용이 구매금액에 영향을 미친다는 조절효과도 확인하였다. 본 연구의 분석 결과에 기초하여 온라인 소매점들은 보다 효율적이고 적합한 구매촉진 방법의 적용 및 제품 카테고리별로 구매촉진 방법의 차별적 적용 등을 고려할 수 있을 것이라 기대된다. Online retailers promote their products using coupons and loyalty programs just like traditional offline retailers. However, online retailers can take advantage of utilizing their online systems to implement these promotional programs. To maximize the effectiveness of a promotion mix, online retailers need to understand the unique effects of each online promotion method considering the characteristics of the products they carry. As a result, they can allocate limited promotion budgets and resources to different promotion mixes. Using transaction data regarding coupon amounts, reward point amounts, and order amounts of 371 fashion brands sold by an online retailer, we examined the effectiveness of coupons and reward points moderated by six fashion product categories. Our major findings were 1) while both coupons and reward points are effective to increase order amounts, coupons are more effective than reward points and 2) the promotional effects vary with the fashion categories. Our study provides managerial insights on implementing promotions considering promotion methods, product category types, and the association between promotion method and product category.
