An ultra low power CMOS motion detector

<P>This paper proposes a CMOS motion detector which consumes extremely low power. CMOS image sensor pixels in this motion detector senses image and image data are converted into just one-bit by using clocked comparators. Because using one-bit data makes additional processing units simple, total power consumption of this CMOS motion detector can be reduced. That is, internal memory which is composed of the clocked gating schemes based on the flip-flop and XOR function which compares a current image with a previous one in order to detect a difference are main features for the simple structure. However one-bit data process has a critical problem that it is hard to detect a motion when image inclines to white or block. For solving this problem, reference voltage controller which makes about the same proportion of white and block is implemented. We have made a test module of the proposed CMOS motion detector and tested it by using FPGA. According to the measurement result, total power consumption is about 32 ¿W at 3.3 V. Therefore, this motion detector can be useful for portable battery-operated devices.</P>

<P>Copper ferrocyanide- functionalized magnetic nano-adsorbents were successfully synthesized by electrostatic coating of citric acid coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles with polyethyleneimine, and immobilizing copper and ferrocyanide on the surfaces of polyethyleneimine-coated nanoparticles. Radioactive cesium (Cs) adsorption tests were conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the copper ferrocyanide-functionalized magnetic nano-adsorbents toward the removal of radioactive Cs.</P>

<P>Magnetic adsorbents embedded in hydrogel beads were developed for the removal of radioactive cesium from contaminated surfaces. The surface decontaminants were fabricated by encapsulation of the magnetic adsorbents, iron oxide nanoparticles coated with copper ferrocyanide, into ecofriendly calcium-alginate beads. They showed a good water adsorbing property with swelling ratio exceeding 16.8, high removal efficiency of 90.51% and decontamination factor of over 10 to the Cs-137 contaminated surface. Moreover, we present a new method for a volume reduction of radioactive waste generated from decontamination by the magnetic separation of adsorbent from the used hydrogel beads.</P>

<P>Copper ferrocyanide-functionalized magnetic nanoadsorbents were fabricated to efficiently remove radioactive cesium from water and to magnetically separate the absorbent from contaminated water The superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanocrystals, which were synthesized using a thermal decomposition method, self-assembled into nanoclusters after coating with polyvinylpyrrolidone to immobilize the copper and ferrocyanide. The resulting copper ferrocyanide functionalized magnetic nanoclusters possessed good saturation magnetization values (23.6 emu/g), allowing for their rapid separation from water using an external magnetic field, and they also showed excellent removal efficiency (99.41%) for radioactive cesium from contaminated water due to the ion exchange capacity of the copper ferrocyanide. Furthermore, these nanoclusters exhibited almost the same removal efficiency (99.17%) even in the presence of competing ions such as NaCl (0.2 mol/L). Therefore, these magnetic adsorbents have promising applications for the treatment of radioactive cesium-contaminated water.</P>

Background: Psoriasis is an chronic inflammatory disease affecting multiple aspects of patients’ lives. The long-term clinical study with large number of patients is important to elucidate the epidemiologic and clinical features of psoriasis. Objectives: To investigate the epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of psoriasis patients from the Psoriasis Clinic of Pusan National University Hospital. Methods: Clinical data were collected and analyzed from the medical records of 541 psoriasis patients, who were newly diagnosed as psoriasis at the Psoriasis Clinic of Pusan National University Hospital between 2012 and 2017. Results: The sex ratio was 1.5:1 (male 60.6%, female 39.4%). The peak age of onset was 20s. The most common morphological type was small plaque (63.6%), followed by large plaque (27.2%) and guttate (6.8%). Nail involvement and psoriatic arthritis accompanied in 20.3% and 9.6% of patients, respectively. Hypertension (14.2%), diabetes mellitus (7.2%), and dyslipidemia (5.2%) were the most frequently observed comorbidities in patients with psoriasis. The most common oral agents as initial treatment was Methotrexate (76.8%), followed by Cyclosporin (19.9%) and Acitretin (3.3%). Conclusion: This study highlighted the epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of psoriasis in Korea.
Clinical and cytogenetic analysis of 10 cases with cutaneous mosaic dyspigmentation

Background: Cytogenetic studies often reveal chromosomal mosaicism in cases of congenital pigmentary disorders like Hypomelanosis of Ito and linear and whorled nevoid hypermelanosis. However, limited data exist in Korean literatures. Objectives: To investigate the characteristics and cytogenetic profile of patients with mosaic dyspigmentation. Methods: Patients with mosaic dyspigmentation without preceding inflammatory lesions between 2016 and 2017 at Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital were included. Clinical features and extracutaneous manifestations were investigated. Karyotyping of fibroblasts from lesional and normal skin was done. Results: Five boys and 5 girls aged from 11 months to 8 years were enrolled. Seven patients (70%) exhibited hypopigmentation, 2 patients (20%) exhibited hyperpigmentation, and 1 patient (10%) exhibited a combination of hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. Extracutaneous manifestations were found in 5 patients (50%); musculoskeletal abnormality in 5 patients, and ophthalmological abnormality in 1 patient. One patient had musculoskeletal, neurologic, and endocrinologic abnormalities. Cytogenetic analyses showed mosaic karyotype in 2 patients. Conclusion: Cutaneous mosaic dyspigmentation could be associated with extracutaneous manifestatations, and it may result from karyotypic abnormality. Therefore, karyotyping from skin fibroblasts could be helpful to understand the underlying genetic abnormalities.
