Objective: The treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) is based on their severity; however, an efficient prediction tool is lacking. We aimed to evaluate the validity of the osteoporotic fracture classification (OF classification) and scoring system (OF score) in predicting the treatment strategy for patients with OVCF, defined according to the Japanese criteria. Methods: We retrospectively investigated 487 consecutive patients diagnosed with vertebral body fractures between January 2018 and December 2022. Only patients with their fresh vertebral fracture episode during the study period were included. Patients were classified into 3 groups: conservative treatment, balloon kyphoplasty (BKP), and open surgery. OF classification and OF scores were assessed for each patient. Results: A total of 237 patients with OVCF were included. There were 127, 81, and 29 patients in the conservative, BKP, and open surgery groups, respectively. The OF score was significantly higher in the BKP and open surgery groups than in the conservative group (p < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that antiosteoporotic drug use, OF classification, progressive deformity, neurological symptoms and mobilization were independent risk factors for operative treatment (all p < 0.001). Receiver operating characteristic analysis showed that the cutoff OF score for operative indication was 5.5, with a sensitivity of 91.9%, specificity of 56.5%, and area under the curve of 0.820 (95% confidence interval, 0.769–0.871). Conclusion: The OF score identified patients who required operative treatment with a high degree of accuracy. This is especially important for ruling out patients who definitely require operative treatment.

Purpose: This study was performed to determine the prognostic value of lymphocyte-to-CRP ratio after curative resection for hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: Between July 2010 and October 2021, 173 consecutive patients (144 male, 29 female) who underwent surgical resection for pathologically confirmed hepatocellular carcinoma were included in this retrospective study. Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between clinicopathological characteristics and recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS). A P-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The patients (mean age, 71 years) were stratified into high (≥9,500, n = 108) and low (<9,500, n = 65) lymphocyte- to-CRP ratio groups. The low lymphocyte-to-CRP ratio group had significantly worse RFS and OS. Low lymphocyte-to- CRP ratio (hazard ratio [HR], 1.865; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.176–2.960; P = 0.008), multiple tumors (HR, 3.333; 95% CI, 2.042–5.343; P < 0.001), and microvascular invasion (HR, 1.934; 95% CI, 1.178–3.184; P = 0.009) were independently associated with RFS, whereas low albumin-to-globulin ratio (HR, 2.270; 95% CI, 1.074–4.868; P = 0.032), α-FP of ≥25 ng/mL (HR, 2.187; 95% CI, 1.115–4.259; P = 0.023), and poor tumor differentiation (HR, 2.781; 95% CI, 1.041–6.692; P = 0.042) were independently associated with OS. Lymphocyte-to-CRP ratio had a higher area under the curve (0.635) than other inflammation-based markers (0.51–0.63). Conclusion: Lymphocyte-to-CRP ratio is superior to other inflammation-based markers as a predictor of RFS in patients with surgically resected hepatocellular carcinoma.

In this work, we report novel enantiopure mononuclear complexes (teaH)[Ln((S,S)-dnsalcd)2] and (teaH)[Ln((R,R)-dnsalcd)2] (Ln = Eu3+ for 1 and 4, Tb3+ for 2 and 5, and Sm3+ for 3 and 6), where teaH = triethylammonium and (S,S/R,R)-H2dnsalcd = (S,S/R,R)-N,N’-bis(3,5-dinitrosalicylidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine. Their unique structural features have been studied by single crystal diffraction and chiral and magneticproperties have been investigated by circular dichroism and susceptibility, respectively. Notably, 1and 3 were found to be isomorphous and exhibited a single intramolecular p-p interaction between two(S,S)-dnsalcd2- ligands. In contrast, 2 and 5 were found to be isomorphous and displayed two intramolecularp-p interactions between two (S,S/R,R)-dnsalcd2- ligands. Interestingly, strong Eu3+/Sm3+-basedemissions in the solid and solution states were observed by efficient antenna effects due to the p-p interactionmodes of the coordinated ligands. Furthermore, density functional theory calculations indicatedthat 1 contained a single localized benzene group in the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO),whereas 2 exhibited full delocalization via p-p interactions in the HOMO.
