      • No Effect of High Fat Diet-Induced Obesity on Spontaneous Reporter Gene Mutations in gpt Delta Mice

        Takasu, Shinji,Ishii, Yuji,Matsushita, Kohei,Kuroda, Ken,Kijima, Aki,Kodama, Yukio,Ogawa, Kumiko,Umemura, Takashi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.17

A large number of epidemiological studies have demonstrated that obesity is a risk factor for several human cancers. Several animal studies using rodents with diet-induced or genetic obesity have also demonstrated that obesity can promote tumor development. However, the effects of obesity on the early stages of carcinogenesis, and especially on the spontaneous occurrence of somatic gene mutations, remain unclear. To investigate the effects of obesity on the rate of spontaneous gene mutations, we performed reporter gene mutation assays in liver, kidney, and colon, organs in which obesity appears to be associated with cancer development on the basis of epidemiological or animal studies, in mice with high fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity. Six-week-old male and female C57BL/6 gpt delta mice were fed HFD or standard diet (STD) for 13 or 26 weeks. At the end of the experiments, reporter gene mutation assays of liver, kidney, and colon were performed. Final body weights and serum leptin levels of male and female mice fed HFD for 13 or 26 weeks were significantly increased compared with corresponding STD-fed groups. Reporter gene mutation assays of liver, kidney, and colon revealed that there were no significant differences in gpt or $Spi^-$ mutant frequencies between STD- and HFD-fed mice in either the 13-week or 26-week groups. These results indicate that HFD treatment and consequent obesity does not appear to influence the spontaneous occurrence of somatic gene mutations.

Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Transgastric Drainage of an Intra-Abdominal Abscess following Gastrectomy

        Satoru Kikuchi,Tetsushi Kubota,Shinji Kuroda,Masahiko Nishizaki,Shunsuke Kagawa,Hironari Kato,Hiroyuki Okada,Toshiyoshi Fujiwara 대한소화기내시경학회 2019 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.52 No.4

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided transgastric drainage has been performed as a less invasive procedure for pancreatic fistulasand intra-abdominal abscesses occurring after surgery in recent years. However, there are no reports of EUS-guided transgastricdrainage of intra-abdominal abscesses following gastrectomy. This case report describes 2 patients who developed an intra-abdominalabscess following gastrectomy and underwent EUS-guided transgastric drainage. Both patients underwent laparoscopy-assisted distalgastrectomy with Billroth-I reconstruction for gastric cancer. The intra-abdominal abscesses were caused by postoperative pancreaticfistula that developed following gastrectomy. One patient underwent naso-cystic drainage and the other underwent only a needlepuncture of the abscess cavity. EUS-guided drainage was performed safely and effectively, although 1 patient developed gastroduodenalanastomotic leakage related to this procedure. In summary, EUS-guided transgastric drainage is safe and technically feasible evenin post-gastrectomy patients. However, it is necessary to be careful if this procedure is performed in the early period followinggastrectomy.

Correlation between Cr Distribution and Ferromagnetism in Iodine-Doped (Zn,Cr)Te

        Nozomi Nishizawa,Koichiro Ishikawa,Shinji Kuroda,Koki Takita,Masanori Mitome,Yoshio Bando,Tomasz Dietl 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.5

zation measurements and structural and chemical characterizations were performed on a series of epitaxial lms grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The magnetic properties of (Zn,Cr)Te films were altered significantly by co-doping charge impurities or by changing Zn and Te flux supplies during epitaxy. The nano-scale probing of the constituent elements using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) revealed that the Cr distribution in the crystal was clearly correlated with the ferromagnetic properties and the origin of high-temperature ferromagnetism was the formation of nano-scale Cr-rich regions in inhomogeneous Cr distributions. As an origin of the variation of the uniformity of Cr distribution, it is proposed that the aggregation energy of Cr ions is modified by the deviation of the Cr charge state which is manipulated by the co-doping or the deviation from stoichiometry.
