Background:Dried flower bud of Syzygium aromaticum (clove) is rich in eugenol, an antioxidant and antiinflammatory compound thatcan protect liver against injury. Clove, besides eugenol, also contains other pharmacologically active phytochemicals such as β-sitosteroland ascorbic acid. This study reports the effect of eugenol-rich fraction (ERF) of clove on liver cirrhosis induced by thioacetamide. Methods:Cirrhosis of the liver, which predisposes to hepatocellular carcinoma, was induced by administering thioacetamide (0.03%)in drinking water for 16 weeks. Cirrhotic animals were divided into two groups; the treated group was administered ERF for 9 weeks,one week after discontinuation of thioacetamide, while the other group received normal saline for a similar duration of time. Results:The treatment with ERF, as determined by histopathology and through a battery of biochemical markers of hepatic injury, oxidativestress and drug metabolizing enzymes, significantly ameliorated the signs of liver cirrhosis. It lowered the elevated levels ofalkalinephosphatase, γ-glutamyl transferase and other biochemical changes in liver cirrhosis. Histopathology of the liver corroborated the effectof ERF with biochemical findings. ERF treatment further inhibited cell proliferation, as demonstrated by reduced [3H]-thymidine uptake. Conclusions:Data provide evidence supporting the protective action of ERF on liver cirrhosis. The study assumes significance becausecirrhosis predisposes the liver to cancer, which is characterized by abnormal cell proliferation. ERF in this study is reportedto inhibithepatic cell proliferation and at the same time decrease oxidative stress, which might be the mechanism of protection against liver cirrhosis.

Let R be a *-ring and n ≥ 1 be an integer. The objective of this paper is to introduce the notion of n-skew centralizing maps on *-rings, and investigate the impact of these maps. In particular, we describe the structure of prime rings with involution '*' such that <sub>*</sub>[x, d(x)]<sub>n</sub> ∈ Z(R) for all x ∈ R (for n = 1, 2), where d : R → R is a nonzero derivation of R. Among other related results, we also provide two examples to prove that the assumed restrictions on our main results are not superfluous.

Let R be a ring, and ${\alpha}$ be an endomorphism of R. An additive mapping H : R ${\rightarrow}$ R is called a left ${\alpha}$-multiplier (centralizer) if H(xy) = H(x)${\alpha}$(y) holds for all x,y $\in$ R. In this paper, we shall investigate the commutativity of prime and semiprime rings admitting left ${\alpha}$-multiplier satisfying any one of the properties: (i) H([x,y])-[x,y] = 0, (ii) H([x,y])+[x,y] = 0, (iii) $H(x{\circ}y)-x{\circ}y=0$, (iv) $H(x{\circ}y)+x{\circ}y=0$, (v) H(xy) = xy, (vi) H(xy) = yx, (vii) $H(x^2)=x^2$, (viii) $H(x^2)=-x^2$ for all x, y in some appropriate subset of R.
On <sup>*</sup>-bimultipliers, Generalized <sup>*</sup>-biderivations and Related Mappings

In this paper we dene the notions of left *-bimultiplier, *-bimultiplier and generalized *-biderivation, and to prove that if a semiprime *-ring admits a left *-bimultiplier M, then M maps R ${\times}$ R into Z(R). In Section 3, we discuss the applications of theory of *-bimultipliers. Further, it was shown that if a semiprime *-ring R admits a symmetric generalized *-biderivation G : R ${\times}$ R ${\rightarrow}$ R with an associated nonzero symmetric *-biderivation R ${\times}$ R ${\rightarrow}$ R, then G maps R ${\times}$ R into Z(R). As an application, we establish corresponding results in the setting of $C^*$-algebra.
Ranking Sensitive Calibrating Parameters of UBC Watershed Model

Almost in all hydrological models, calibrating parameters are tuned to best match the simulated results with the observed. In the present study sensitivity analysis was carried on the fifteen calibrating parameters of University of British Columbia Watershed Model (UBCWM). The study focuses to impart information to the modelers while calibrating UBCWM. To achieve the objectives of the study, UBC Watershed Model was applied on Chitral watershed in Pakistan. UBC Watershed Model is a semi distributed Hydrological model which divides the entire watershed in several elevation bands. The model was calibrated for the year 2006 with the coefficient of efficiency as well as the coefficient of determination equal to 0.94. The numerical values of the calibrating parameters were changed by increasing 20% and then by decreasing 20% of the standard calibrated values one by one. Sensitivity of the model was evaluated by computing the Absolute Sensitivity Index for each parameter. The sensitivity analysis results showed that the P0SREPO as the most sensitive parameter with 3.31525 Absolute Sensitivity Index (ASI) whereas C0IMPA found to be least sensitive giving a value of 0.0452 as Absolute Sensitivity Index (ASI). The logical trends in the results of sensitivity analysis show the robustness of the model.

In eukaryotes, chromosomes undergo a series of complex and coordinated movements during cell division. The kinesin motor proteins, such as the chicken Chromokinesin, are known to bind DNA and transport chromosomes on spindle microtubles. We previously cloned a family of retrograde C-terminus kinesins in Caenorhabditis elegans that mediate chromosomal movement during embryonic development. Here we report the cloning of a C. elegans klp-12 cDNA, encoding an ortholog of chicken Chromokinesin and mouse KIF4. The KLP-12 protein contains 1609 amino acid and harbors two leucine zipper motifs. The insitu RNA hybridization in embryonic stages shows that the klp-12 gene is expressed during the entire embryonic development. The RNA interference assay reveals that, similar to the role of Chromokinesin, klp-12 functions in chromosome segregation. These results support the notion that during mitosis both types, the anterograde N-terminus kinesins such as KLP-12 and the retrograde C-terminus kinesins, such as KLP-3, KLP-15, KLP-16, and KLP-17, may coordinate chromosome assembly at the metaphase plate and chromosomal segregation towards the spindle poles in C. elegans.

<P>We report Zn doped mesoporous TiO<SUB>2</SUB> microspheres synthesized <I>via</I> a combined sol–gel and solvothermal method exhibiting excellent Li-ion insertion–extraction properties. The specific capacity of Zn doped mesoporous TiO<SUB>2</SUB> microspheres was significantly higher than that of TiO<SUB>2</SUB> nanopowder at high charge–discharge rates. The superior rate performance offered by Zn doped mesoporous TiO<SUB>2</SUB> microspheres may be attributed to enhanced electronic and ionic conductivity, which was achieved by improving the donor density <I>via</I> Zn doping and by providing a well interconnected mesoporous network of nanoparticles for the effective diffusion of Li ions. Zn doped mesoporous TiO<SUB>2</SUB> microspheres showed more than an 87% capacity retention after 100 cycles at a charge–discharge rate of 1 C, demonstrating it to be a promising approach for the development of high-performance Li ion batteries.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Zn doping in mesoporous TiO<SUB>2</SUB> microspheres exhibited excellent electronic and ionic conductivity for the realization of a highly stable lithium ion battery with superior rate performances. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c2jm33315e'> </P>

The synthesis of a photocatalyst that is highly active under visible light is one of the most challenging tasks for solar-energy utilization. Here we report a multilayer assembly of gold nanoparticles and graphene that offers dual functionality to efficiently harness visible photons. Firstly, plasmonic resonances by gold nanoparticles are utilized for visible light scattering; secondly the electron scavenging reaction is enhanced by the gold nanoparticles trapping the electrons that are injected from the dye into the graphene. Moreover, the structure is in the form of a thin film, which demonstrates the potential for easy handling and recycling. Precise control over light harvesting and the photocatalytic response is achieved by controlling the number of layers.
