Car drivers receive the acceleration stimulation and the rotational stimulation when negotiating with a curve.In such a situation, the driver controls his/her posture such as the head and the body appropriately. It is known that the driver tilts his/her head to the direction of the curve turns. In this research, the driver’s head tilt strategy in roll direction is investigated for understanding of comfortable vehicle motion. From the experimental results with a real car, high correlation is found between vehicle lateral acceleration and the driver’s head roll angle. In addition, relationship between the vehicle roll angle and the driver"s head movement is investigated in the experiment with a driving simulatorwith 1 dof motion in the roll axis. It is found that the driver adjusts his head based on the roll of the car.

This paper describes an automated inspection robot for detecting tile exfoliation and a new diagnostic method for determining its existence and extent. The robot moves quickly along a vertical wall and stops to detect a tile’s inner condition using a hammering sound. Tile separation commonly comprises outer exfoliation where the tile separates from the mortar concrete and inner exfoliation where the space between the substrate and the mortar concrete deteriorates. In order to detect these two exfoliations, we focused attention on wavelet analysis, which enables us to analyze the frequency element of the sound waveform on time phase continuously. By comparing the wavelet volume rate expressing the characteristics of tile deterioration for several scale tiles and striking hammers, the quantitative detection and its scale effects of visually distinguishing the two exfoliation modes was established. The automated robot and the diagnostics method were used to perform a fast and highly accurate inspection of the outer tile wall.
Analysis of Driver's Head Movement by Motion Sickness Model

Driver receives the acceleration and the rotational stimulations when negotiating with a curve. In such a situation, the driver controls his/her posture such as the head and the body appropriately. Beside, it is pointed out that the head movement of the passenger is opposite to the driver. Moreover, by the fact that the driver does not get carsickness comparing with the passenger, it is suggested that the driver's head movement may be related to the decrease of carsickness and improvement of the ride comfort. Therefore, we build the mathematical model of the motion sickness and investigated the relationship between the head movement and the motion sickness incidence. In addition, we simulate motion sickness incidence using driver’s head movements measured in the experiments with a real car. From the result, it is shown that the head tilt movement of the drivers has an effect to decrease the motion sickness.

The brain of the aged dog possesses senile plaques and amyloid angiopathy, which characterize Alzheimer's disease brains. We have defined the dementia condition of aged dogs and examined which mechanism(s) is responsible for the condition. A series of studies revealed that the dementia condition in aged dogs is significantly related to the number of apoptotic brain cells including both neurons and glial cells, but not to the number of senile plaques. On the other hand, 5-azacytidine (5AzC) is a cytidine analogue, and is thought to induce kinds of cell differentiation possibly through hypomethylation of genomic DNA. We have revealed neuronal apoptosis induced in 5AzC-treated fetal mice and PC12 cells. The ribosomal protein L4 (rpL4) gene is expressed prior to the apoptosis in the PC12 cell system. Therefore, the involvement of the rpL4 gene expression in age-related brain cell apoptosis in dogs may contribute to the investigation of Alzheimer's dementia.
