      • High performing smart electrochromic device based on honeycomb nanostructured h-WO3 thin films: hydrothermal assisted synthesis

        Kondalkar, Vijay V.,Mali, Sawanta S.,Kharade, Rohini R.,Khot, Kishorkumar V.,Patil, Pallavi B.,Mane, Rahul M.,Choudhury, Sipra,Patil, Pramod S.,Hong, Chang K.,Kim, Jin H.,Bhosale, Popatrao N. The Royal Society of Chemistry 2015 Dalton Transactions Vol.44 No.6

<P>Herein, we report honeycomb nanostructured single crystalline hexagonal WO3 (h-WO3) thin films in order to improve electrochromic performance. In the present investigation, honeycomb nanostructured WO3 with different unit size and nanowire array with highly nanocrystalline frameworks have been synthesized <I>via</I> a hydrothermal technique. The influence of hydrothermal reaction time on the honeycomb unit cells, crystallite size, lithium ion diffusion coefficient and switching time for coloration/bleaching were studied systematically. The electrochromic study reveals that the honeycomb unit cell size has a significant impact on the electrochromic performance. Small unit cells in the honeycomb lead to large optical modulation and fast switching response. A large optical modulation in the visible spectral region (60.74% at <I>λ</I> = 630 nm) at a potential of −1.2 V with fast switching time (4.29 s for coloration and 3.38 s for bleaching) and high coloration efficiency (87.23 cm2 C−1) is observed in the honeycomb WO3 thin films with a unit cell diameter of 1.7 μm. The variation in color on reduction of WO3 with applied potential has been plotted on an <I>xy</I>-chromaticity diagram and the color space coordinate shows the transition from a colorless to deep blue state.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Honeycomb nanostructured single crystalline hexagonal WO3 (h-WO3) thin films in order to improve electrochromic performance. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c4dt02953d'> </P>

Prognosis of Alzheimer's Disease Progression from Mild Cognitive Impairment Using Apolipoprotein-E Genotype

        Rohini M.,Surendran D.,Manoj S. Oswalt 대한전기학회 2022 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.17 No.2

Alzheimer's disease (AD), cerebrovascular disease, Lewy-body disease, and Frontal–temporal degeneration disease are the age-related cognitive impairments that cause dementia. However, AD is the primary cause of dementia that causes brain cell degeneration in the geriatric community. Brain cell degeneration is the crucial cause of AD, due to the abnormal accumulation of indissoluble clumps known as plaques and tangles in the human brain's neurons. Amyloid precursor protein levels and Apolipoprotein -E gene are the biomarkers of AD since it causes accumulations and hence blocks the neuron transport system throughout the body. The early onset of AD includes mild-cognitive impairment (MCI) that progresses to complete dementia. Many related works include AD prediction using clinical modality images and cognitive assessments scores of the individuals but have not addressed comparative genome study for signifi cant subjects. However, there is a lack of aff ordable biomarkers for the eff ective early detection of high-risk individuals. In this study, we utilize one or more features of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) tests and Apolipoprotein-E genotype sequence that provides more signifi cant biomarkers for the early prediction. The ML classifi ers including Support vector classifi er, Gaussian process, AdaBoost, Random Forest, Decision trees learns the subset of patterns that predicts the AD with gene descriptors from microRNA expression profi le and the profi led gene pattern. These signifi cant multiple gene descriptors provide a supportive prediction methodology that apply genotype strength with the ensemble classifi ers. The fi nal optimal model is given by validation evaluations. The support vector classifi er and Random Forest classifi ers had given consistent results for disease conversion and progression from MRI attributes and had given promising results with the validation that showed accuracy greater than 80% and F1 weighted score of 0.8 in disease classifi cation and prognosis. The experimental results had proven 95% accuracy in the saliency values of APOE isoforms implemented in DragonNN framework that will vary AD pathogenic. Hence particular focus and clinical interventions can be given on Aβ genome dependent subjects that predicts the disease

Paralytic rabies mimicking Guillain-Barré syndrome: the dilemma still prevails

        Rohini M. Surve,Hima S. Pendharkar,Sonia Bansal 대한신경집중치료학회 2021 대한신경집중치료학회지 Vol.14 No.1

Background: Paralytic rabies lacks the hallmark signs of rabies at presentation and is often misdiagnosed as Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Sensitive antemortem diagnostic criteria for rabies is lacking, and the diagnosis is confirmed posthumously by demonstrating Negri bodies on brain biopsy. Antemortem brain and spine magnetic resonance imaging findings have recently been reported for paralytic rabies. Case Report: We report a case of paralytic rabies in a young boy who was initially misdiagnosed with GBS. In this case, brain and spine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings pointed towards paralytic rabies, which was confirmed by the presence of anti-rabies antibodies in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid analysis, and posthumously by Negri bodies on brain biopsy. Conclusion: In patients with GBS, paralytic rabies should be considered as an alternative diagnosis, especially in regions where rabies is endemic, and early MRI of the brain and spine should be considered for the antemortem diagnosis of paralytic rabies.

      • Synthesis of CuIn1-xGaxSe2 Nanoparticles by Thermal Decomposition Method with Tunable Ga Content

        Latha, M.,Devi, R. Aruna,Velumani, S.,Oza, Goldie,Reyes-Figueroa, P.,Rohini, M.,Becerril-Juarez, I. G.,Yi, Junsin American Scientific Publishers 2015 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.15 No.11

<P>Chalcopyrite CuIn1-xGaxSe2 (CIGS) nanoparticles were synthesized by mixing copper (I) chloride (CuCl), Indium (III) chloride (InCl3), gallium (III) chloride (GaCl3) and selenium (Se) in oleylamine (OLA) at 260 degrees C for 4 h under nitrogen atmosphere. The Ga/(In + Ga) ratio was tuned across the entire stoichiometric range from 0 to 1. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) revealed chalcopyrite crystal structure for samples prepared with x = 0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 1. The lattice parameters a and c decreased linearly with increasing Ga concentration which is consistent with Vegard's law. Raman spectra exhibited A(1) optical phonon vibrational mode for synthesized nanoparticles which gradually shifted to higher wavenumber with increasing Ga content. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images showed irregular as well as hexagonal plate like morphologies in the size range of 100 to 400 nm. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) images showed well-defined lattice fringes and d-spacing correspond to (112) plane which gradually decreases with increasing Ga content. The material compositions of synthesized CIGS nanoparticles with x = 0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 1 were very close to the desired stoichiometry which was confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX). Ultra-violet visible near infrared (UV-VIS-NIR) absorption spectra of the synthesized CIGS nanoparticles revealed that the bandgap could be tuned over the range 1 to 1.7 eV by varying the Ga/(In+Ga) ratio.</P>

Nutrition in the prevention and management of sarcopenia - A special focus on Asian Indians

        Shinjini Bhattacharya,Rohini Bhadra,Annemie M.W.J.Schols,Ardy van Helvoort,Sucharita Sambashivaiah 대한골다공증학회 2022 Osteoporosis and Sarcopenia Vol.8 No.4

Sarcopenia, characterized by loss of muscle mass and strength, is common in advanced old age but can be accelerated by chronic disease, malnutrition and physical inactivity. Early initiation of intervention to achieve and maintain a higher peak muscle mass and strength may allow for prevention or delay of sarcopenia and facilitate independent living even in old age. In this context, malnutrition, a significant contributor to sarcopenia, is often overlooked among the Indian population. Maintenance of an optimal energy and protein balance with adequate physical activity level is essential to preserve physical function in the aging population. However, research on the role of micronutrients in muscle maintenance, is still in its infancy. This narrative review, therefore, aims to explore the current status of International and Indian research on the role of nutrition in sarcopenia mitigation and the way forward.

Overexpression of AtNAC2 (ANAC092) in groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) improves abiotic stress tolerance

        Mahesh Patil,T. G. Prasad,S. V. Ramu,P. Jathish,Rohini Sreevathsa,P. Chandrashekar Reddy,M. Udayakumar 한국식물생명공학회 2014 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.8 No.2

Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is animportant oilseed crop grown in semi-arid tropics where itexperiences moisture stress at different stages of growthresulting in reduced growth and productivity. In this study,we report that the stress tolerance of groundnut can beimproved by overexpression of stress-specific transcriptionfactor through transgenic approach. In silico electronicnorthernanalysis of AtNAC2 showed increased expressionunder different abiotic stresses. The transcript levels of ahomolog of AtNAC2 gene were upregulated under differentdrought regimes in groundnut. Groundnut transgenicsoverexpressing AtNAC2 showed enhanced tolerance todrought and salinity with improved yield under waterlimitedconditions. The study demonstrates that AtNAC2 isa potential candidate gene to improve stress tolerance bytransgenic approach.

      • Development of nanocoral-like Cd(SSe) thin films using an arrested precipitation technique and their application

Khot, Kishorkumar V.,Mali, Sawanta S.,Pawar, Nita B.,Kharade, Rohini R.,Mane, Rahul M.,Kondalkar, Vijay V.,Patil, Pallavi B.,Patil, Pramod S.,Hong, Chang K.,Kim, Jin H.,Heo, Jaeyeong,Bhosale, Popatrao The Royal Society of Chemistry 2014 New journal of chemistry Vol.38 No.12

<P>Nanocrystalline cadmium sulfoselenide thin films have been synthesized using a self-organized arrested precipitation technique with different deposition times using triethanolamine as a complexing agent. Optical, structural, morphological and photoelectrochemical solar cell properties were investigated as a function of deposition time. A UV-Vis-NIR absorption study suggested a direct allowed transition type and the band gap energy decreased from 2.01 to 1.86 eV with the increase in deposition time. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the thin films are nanocrystalline by nature with a pure hexagonal crystal structure and a calculated crystallite size of 51–68 nm. Field emission scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that the surface morphology was altered from nanoflakes to assorted nanoflakes–nanospheres and finally to a nanocoral-like morphology. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy showed that the composition of the Cd(SSe) thin films was of good stoichiometry. Electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power measurements confirmed that the deposited films were n-type semiconductors. From <I>J–V</I> measurements, a highest photo-conversion efficiency of 0.57% was achieved. The significant boost in the PEC performance might be due to the improved crystallinity along with lower values of the grain boundary resistance, dislocation density and the microstrain of the Cd(SSe) thin films.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>First-time synthesis of nanoflakes to nanocoral-like Cd(SSe) thin films using a novel arrested precipitation technique with triethanolamine as complexing agent (<I>η</I> = 0.57%). <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c4nj01319k'> </P>
