Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter cloacae Induced Septic Arthritis in a Healthy Adolescent: A Rare Case Report

        Reza Zandi,Shahin Talebi,Shirin Sheibani,Medical Student,Akbar Ehsani 대한고관절학회 2022 Hip and Pelvis Vol.34 No.3

Septic arthritis (SA) is a joint inflammation that develops secondary to infectious causes. SA in children is associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality; therefore, it is regarded as an orthopedic emergency. Because SA of the hip joint usually mimics other musculoskeletal diseases, diagnosis remains challenging. Although this lesion usually shows a good outcome, treatment at an inappropriate time, neglect, or inadequate treatment could lead to poor outcomes. We report on the case of a healthy adolescent who complained of episodes of fever and chills, weight loss, pain in his left hip, and limping. After performing necessary workups, two differential diagnoses of tumor and SA were made. The results of Gram stain and culture of the synovial fluid after surgical excision showed Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter cloacae complex. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of SA due to co-infection with K. pneumoniae and E. cloacae in a healthy patient.

Effects of extrusion of rice bran on performance and phosphorous bioavailability in broiler chickens

        Zare-Sheibani, Ali Akbar,Arab, Masoud,Zamiri, Mohammad Javad,Rezvani, Mohammad Reza,Dadpasand, Mohammad,Ahmadi, Farhad Korean Society of Animal Science and Technology 2015 한국축산학회지 Vol.57 No.7

Background: Rice bran is a by-product of the rice-milling process, which remains largely underutilized; however, efficient processing treatments may improve its feeding value for chickens. This is of great economic and environmental importance, as this can lower the production costs, and offer an opportunity for valorization of a low-quality agricultural by-product, to a high-value feed source. Methods: This experiment was conducted to study the effect of extruded rice bran on performance and phosphorous (P) bioavailability in broiler chickens. In a completely randomized design, 200 seven-day-old broilers (Cobb 500) were allotted to five treatments with five replicates per treatment and 8 chicks per replicate, and fed with their respective diet during the starter (8 to 21 days) and grower (22 to 42 days) periods. Diets were a basal corn-soybean based diet (T1), or diets containing 20 % rice bran (T2), 30 % rice bran (T3), 20 % extruded rice bran (T4), or 30 % extruded rice bran (T5). Results: Birds feeding on T4 and T5 diets had a higher body weight gain and lower feed-to-gain ratio compared to those feeding on T2 and T3 diets (p < 0.05). Birds receiving diets containing extruded rice bran had higher total P availability and tibia ash content, as compared with those receiving diets containing un-extruded rice bran (p < 0.05). Relative weight of the pancreas was higher in birds receiving T2 and T3 diets. Conclusions: The results confirmed the beneficial effect of extrusion treatment of rice bran on performance and P availability in broilers. Up to 30 % extruded rice bran may be included in the broiler diet without apparent adverse effects on the performance.

Nanostructure silver-doped zinc oxide films coating on glass prepared by sol–gel and photochemical deposition process: Application for removal of mercaptan

Mohammad Hossein Habibi,Reza Sheibani 한국공업화학회 2013 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.19 No.1

Silver-doped zinc oxide (SDZO) films have been grown on glass substrate by a novel combination of sol–gel and photochemical deposition processes (SGPD). The effect of sintering on structural, electrical and optical properties was investigated. The films were characterized by UV–vis absorption spectroscopy (UV–vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The result of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed that the binding energy of Ag 3d5/2 for SDZO shifts remarkably to the lower binding energy compared to the pure metallic Ag due to the interaction between silver and zinc oxide. The XRD spectra of the SDZO films indicate that silver was incorporated in the hexagonal crystal structure of zinc oxide. SEM micrographs show the uniform distribution of spherical grains of about 73 nm grain size for the pure zinc oxide thin films. The results indicated that silver doping photochemical deposition was a feasible method to tune the optical properties of zinc oxide nanostructures. SDZO films coated on glass were applied for the photodegradation of mercaptan in water. SDZO films were applied for degradation of mercaptobenzoxazole which reduced the mercaptan concentration to more than 98%.
