Carbon/iron composites were prepared from waste cation exchange resin by NaOH activation. The BETsurface areas were over 1200 m2 g-1. The presence of iron led to the formation of new mesopores andmacropores. Activation temperature had a significant impact on the pore size distributions, crystalstructures, and magnetic properties of the carbon composites, and the magnetic properties of thecomposites were related to their crystal structures. The composite synthesized at 800 8C (800ACS-1)could effectively remove diethyl phthalate, bisphenol A, and malachite green from aqueous solutions. 800ACS-1 also exhibited high stability over a wide pH range of 4–11.5.
Oxidative degradation of Orange G by persulfate activated with iron-immobilized resin chars

Advanced oxidation processes based on persulfate activation are promising techniques for the removal of organic compounds in aqueous solutions. In the study, iron-immobilized resin chars were prepared by different methods and used as persulfate activators for the degradation of Orange G. The results showed that iron immobilization method had a significant effect on the reactivity of activator, which might be related to the distribution and chemical states of iron and sulfur elements in the sample. The activator prepared by doping method could be used over wide pH and temperature ranges and reused char still exhibited good performance for persulfate activation.

Herein, a newly designed and synthesized fiber-supported polyquaterniums@Cu(I) served as efficient and recyclable polymer-supported copper complex catalysts for alkyne coupling and cycloaddition reactions, is reported. The fiber-supported copper complex catalyst was prepared systematically from commercially available polyacrylonitrile fiber, and characterized detailedly by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, mechanical properties, and SEM during both of the preparation and utilization processes. Moreover, the fiber-supported polyquaterniums@Cu(I) has been verified to possess high catalytic activities for the homocoupling of terminal alkyne in ethyl acetate (10 samples yields 83–99%, 10 cycles from 98% to 95%), A3 coupling of alkyne, aldehyde and amine in toluene (10 samples yields 81–94%, 10 cycles from 94% to 90%), and click chemistry of CuAAC reactions in water (10 samples yields 82–99%, 21 cycles from 97% to 96%). Furthermore, the newly developed fiber catalyst in spinning basket reactor displayed excellent stability and recyclability, and the concise and effective gram-scalable operation has extensive application prospect on chemical productions.

Chromosomal region maintenance 1 (CRM1) is associated with an adverse prognosis in glioma. We previously reported that CRM1 inhibition suppressed glioma cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo. In this study, we investigated the role of CRM1 in the migration and invasion of glioma cells. S109, a novel reversible selective inhibitor of CRM1, was used to treat Human glioma U87 and U251 cells. Cell migration and invasion were evaluated by wound-healing and transwell invasion assays. The results showed that S109 significantly inhibited the migration and invasion of U87 and U251 cells. However, mutation of Cys528 in CRM1 abolished the inhibitory activity of S109 in glioma cells. Furthermore, we found that S109 treatment decreased the expression level and activity of MMP2 and reduced the level of phosphorylated STAT3 but not total STAT3. Therefore, the inhibition of migration and invasion induced by S109 may be associated with the downregulation of MMP2 activity and expression, and inactivation of the STAT3 signaling pathway. These results support our previous conclusion that inhibition of CRM1 is an attractive strategy for the treatment of glioma.

A universal fiber catalyst for the Knoevenagel condensations is presented. The detailed characterization by mechanical properties, elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, and SEM confirmed the rangeability of the fiber catalyst during the full-course. Moreover, the mediated condensations proceeded smoothly with lower catalyst amount (1 mol%) in different solvents of varying polarities and the products were obtained in good to excellent yields (95–99%), and even with water as the solvent could also achieve a series of a,b-unsaturated compounds with nearly quantitative yields at room temperature. Furthermore, the catalyst exhibited excellent flexibility and could be easily recovered and recycled with prominent stability over 10 cycles, and the procedure was operationally convenient and effectively amenable to the gram scale on a simple fixed-bed reactor.

A potential industrialized fiber catalyst for “click chemistry” via the one-pot multicomponent Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) for the synthesis of 1,2,3-triazoles in water, is reported. Detailed characterization by appearance, mechanical properties, elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, and SEM confirmed the rangeability of the fiber catalyst during the preparation and utilization processes. Moreover, the fiber catalyst-mediated reactions proceeded smoothly to afford triazoles with nearly quantitative yields in short time (15 min). Furthermore, the fiber catalyst has shown tandem activities and superior recyclability (over 10 cycles), and the procedure is operationally simple and amenable to the gram-scale on a simple fixed-bed reactor.

An ultra-high performance fiber, serving as a novel material for heterogeneous-acid catalyst for the conversion of biomass components to methyl levulinate, is presented. The catalyst was prepared conveniently from commercially available polyphenylene sulfide fiber by sulfonation, and characterized detailedly by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, SEM and mechanical strength at different stages. Moreover, the catalyst exhibited higher activity for biomass components transforming into methyl levulinate (52–96%), and prominent ability to be reused with good recyclability and stability. Furthermore, the effective large-scale process with fiber catalyst in impellers of the agitation system is very attractive for the industrial applications.

An efficient, recyclable and large-scalable fiber-supported Fe(III) catalytic system verifed in the one-pot multicomponent Biginelli reactions, is presented. The fiber catalyst was prepared conveniently from commercially available polyacrylonitrile fiber according to a simple two-step procedure by amination and chelation in water, and characterized detailedly with ICP analysis, morphology, mechanical properties, elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, and SEM during the modification and utilization processes. Moreover, the fiber catalyst-mediated reactions showed broad applicability and proceeded smoothly to afford a series of substituted 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones/-thiones (yields 81–94%) in ethanol under mild conditions. Furthermore, the newly developed fiber catalyst held high strength, good flexibility and exhibited excellent stability and recyclability (over 10 cycles), and the procedure was operationally concise and effectively amenable to the gram-scale on a simple fixed-bed reactor with potential industrialization prospect.
Heat transfer characteristics of single-ring closed PHP

In order to solve the problem of heat dissipation in the current industry, a single ring closed pulsating heat pipe (PHP) was simulated in this paper. Firstly, the geometry model and numerical simulation model of single ring closed cycle PHP were established to obtain the temperature change rule of PHP and the position motion state of the vapor-plug and liquidcolumn in the tube. At the same time, a test bench was set up to verify the accuracy of the simulation results. The time series data of temperature and position of vapor-plug and liquidcolumn in PHP are extracted, and the chaotic characteristics of PHP are obtained. The results show that with the increase of the heating power, the motion state of the working fluid, the chaotic attractor and Lyapunov index have all changed significantly. The results provide a foundation for further research on the features and mechanism of PHP.

Ganoderic Acid A (GA) has many pharmacologicaleffects such as anti-tumor, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory,and immunosuppressive effects. However, the protectiveeffect of GA on liver injury has not been reported. Thisstudy aimed to investigate the action of GA on insufficientmethionine and choline combined with high-fat diet (HFD)-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in rats. NAFLD model was established by insufficient methionineand choline combined with high fat feeding to rats. The levelsof Acetyl-CoA carboxylase, fatty acid synthase, sterolregulatory element binding protein, liver X receptors, AMPactivatedprotein kinase, peroxisome proliferator-activatedreceptor α, PPARg coactivator 1α and NF-κB pathway inthe liver were detected by western blot. The results of thisstudy demonstrated that the expression of GA can not onlysignificantly decrease the live weight and liver weight perbody weight of HFD mice, but also restore the alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase, total bilirubinlevels, triglyceride and cholesterol in serum. In addition,the expression of GA increased the levels of high-densitylipoprotein cholesterol in serum, ameliorated pathologicalchanges and decreased NAS score of mice’s liver. In conclusion,the treatment with GA could improve NAFLD in ratsby regulating the levels of signaling events involved in freefatty acid production, lipid oxidation and liver inflammation.
