Impact of Temporary Link Blockage on Ergodic Capacity of FSO System

Free‐space optical (FSO) systems have attracted much attention from both research and application perspectives owing to their many benefits, such as license‐free operation, low‐cost, and high data rates. This paper investigates the ergodic capacity of FSO systems, which is an important metric of system performance. The stochastic temporary laser‐beam blockage, pointing errors, and atmospheric turbulence are simultaneously considered. The results illustrate that the link blockage causes a decreased ergodic capacity. We show that to maximize the ergodic capacity, there is an optimal value of the laser‐beam radius at the waist, which largely depends on pointing errors; however, it is independent of the atmospheric turbulence and the probability of link blockage.

<P>Optimal multipoint methods for solving nonlinear equations of arbitrary order of convergence are investigated. A low cost transformation that converts Newton-preconditioned methods into a derivative free variant is presented. This transforming procedure preserves both algorithm body structure and order of convergence of the original scheme. Another useful application of the proposed transformation is the acceleration of convergence order of non-optimal methods. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

In this paper we propose a simple iterative method for finding a root of a nonlinear equation. It is shown that the new method, which does not require any derivatives, has a quadratic convergence order. In addition, one can find that a hybrid method combined with the non-iterative method can further improve the convergence rate. To show the efficiency of the presented method we give some numerical examples.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The prime aim of this study is appraising the suitability of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference framework (ANFIS) to compute the monthly wind power density. On this account, the extracted wind power from Weibull functions are utilized for training and testing the developed ANFIS model. The proficiency of the ANFIS model is certified by providing thorough statistical comparisons with artificial neural network (ANN) and genetic programming (GP) techniques. The computed wind power by all models are compared with those obtained using measured data. The study results clearly indicate that the proposed ANFIS model enjoys high capability and reliability to estimate wind power density so that it presents high superiority over the developed ANN and GP models. Based upon relative percentage error (RPE) values, all estimated wind power values via ANFIS model are within the acceptable range of −10% to 10%. Additionally, relative root mean square error (RRMSE) analysis shows that ANFIS model has an excellent performance for estimation of wind power density.</P>
Improved Side Weir Discharge Coefficient Modeling by Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy Methodology

In this article, the accuracy of a soft computing technique is evaluated in terms of discharge coefficient prediction of an improved triangular side weir. The process includes simulating the discharge coefficient with the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). Matlab software is used for ANFIS modeling. To identify the most appropriate input variables, eight different input combinations with various numbers of inputs are examined. The performance of the proposed system is confirmed by comparing the ANFIS and experimental results for the testing dataset. The performance evaluation demonstrates that the ANFIS model with five inputs (Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.014) is more accurate than the ANFIS model with one input (RMSE = 0.088). The ANFIS model results are also compared with the results obtained from previous regression and soft computing studies.
L’INGRATITUDE DE YING CHEN: UN ROMAN NEO-EXISTENTALISTE?

Ce texte étudie les liens intertextuels entre L’Ingratitude - probablement, le roman le mieux connu de l’écrivaine canadienne d’origine chinoise et d’expression française Ying Chen - et la pièce Les Mains sales de Jean-Paul Sartre. Il se propose de trouver dans quelle mesure les deux textes communiquent entre eux et comment l’intertextualité contribue à l’esthétique du roman de Chen. L’étude offre une analyse structuraliste des deux textes aux niveaux des personnages et de l’intrigue. Elle conclut que les deux textes présentent de fortes similitudes aux deux niveaux et véhiculent des messages comparables. Cette comparaison se propose d’initier une nouvelle approche de l’oeuvre de Chen et, plus généralement, du mouvement québécois dit écritures migrantes, qui pourrait désormais être appréhendé comme une forme de néo-existentialisme.

Inheritance of cocoon and shell weight characters in silkworm crosses between sex-limited at larva stage lines, including three (NIG$_{1}$ $\times$ TV$_{3/2}$ ,NIG$_{1}$ $\times$ TBV$_{2/24}$ and NIG$_{1}$ $\times$ B$_{2/6}$ ) from Japanese type and three (NIG$_{2}$ $\times$ B$_{2/6}$ ,TV$_{3/2}$ $\times$ NIG$_{1}$ and NIG$_{2}$ $\times$ TBV$_{2/24}$ ) from Chinese type was studied at Regional Centre for ScientificApplied Service - Vratza during the period of 2000 2002. Inheritance of tested characters in F I was determined through genetic parameters, additiveness (a), dominance (d) and their ratio (d/a). Degree and frequency of transgressions in F$_{2}$ were calculated also. Over dominance (d/a(>) 1) with bigger contribution of the parent with higher value was determined at inheritance tested characters. Transgressions obtained at cocoon and shell weight characters were positive and varied in wide limits. The productivity of parent's lines had defined the variability of genetic parameters for degree and frequency of transgressions. Combination of positive transgressions at cocoon and shell weight characters in F2 hybrid populations from sex-limited at larva stage allow us to select individuals with high productive potential for further use in selection programs.

A study was conducted to establish the degree of genetic divergence between different hybrid forms and rearing conditions through estimation of the minimum number of genes (allelic pairs) differentiating parents in terms of specific quantitative traits. It was established that the minimum gene numbers differentiating parental lines in the inheritance of cocoon was 1, of cocoon shell weight- between 1 and 2, and of silk filament length- between 2 and 3. The variability in the specific genetic parameter could be explained by the reliability of the statistical-and-genetic method used and the expression of genes affecting the formation of each of the characters tested. Gene expression, in its turns is conditioned both by the gene interaction within the genotypes and the different genotype response to environmental change. To go deep in the problem, experiments should be conducted under strictly controlled conditions, reducing the mathematical-and-genetic analysis to a physiological levels and hence to analyse the genetic nature of the specific quantitative character formation and its genetic control.
