        A multipath peroxymonosulfate activation process over supported by magnetic CuO-Fe3O4 nanoparticles for efficient degradation of 4-chlorophenol

        Heterogeneous catalysts with low cost, environmentally friendly, highly effective and ready separation from aqueous solution are highly desirable. Magnetic CuO-Fe3O4 nanoparticles, a type of non-toxic bimetallic transition metal oxide, is a promising heterogeneous catalyst for activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) that has not been previously investigated. In this study, the activation of PMS by CuO-Fe3O4 nanoparticles was evaluated using the degradation of 4-chlorophenol as a model reaction. Several critical factors such as pH, catalyst dosage and PMS concentration were investigated. CuO-Fe3O4/PMS system demonstrated a wide effective pH range to degrade 4-chlorophenol, namely 5.5 to 9.5. With the increase of the catalyst dosage, the degradation efficiency of 4-chlorophenol appeared to increase first and then decrease, that the inflection point was 0.5 g/L. Elevated PMS concentration obviously improved the decomposition of 4-chlorophenol; however, the plateau was reached when the PMS concentration was 8mM. Further increase in PMS concentration would not significantly improve the removal efficiency. Through examining the effects of scavengers and electron spin resonance (ESR) analyses, CuO-Fe3O4 nanoparticles were proven to activate PMS through a non-radical and radical pathway to generate singlet oxygen, sulfate radicals and hydroxyl radicals. Based on results, CuO-Fe3O4 nanoparticles were effective, environmentally friendly and low cost catalysts for efficient activation of PMS. These features make CuO-Fe3O4 nanoparticles a readily available heterogeneous catalyst to activate PMS for refractory organic pollutants degradation in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs).

        회사법상 내부통제제도의 법적 개선방안

        After a unified concept was formed in the report of COSO, the USA, the most developed country in internal control system throughout the world, based on an independent act which is similar to Model Business Corporation Act (MBCA) and SOX Act, expressly stipulated the basic conditions with regard to internal control amid it, thus strengthening internal control. In contrast, there are not perfect legal provisions on internal control for Korean companies. Korean internal control system is only aimed at financial companies; while general companies have the provisions on internal control in External Audit Act and the contents related to financial reports; law-abiding control criterion and compliance officer system were only listed in the amendment of Commercial Law in April 2011. That is to say, internal control system only exists in Commercial Law, Financial Regulation Law, External Audit Act as well as the provisions of financial supervision organ and the laws and regulations of self-discipline supervision organ dispersedly. The laws related to finance have included internal control criterion and compliance officer system. In the amended Commercial Law, compared with compliance officer system, compliance officer system has been strengthened at the level of internal control in accordance with the laws related to finance. Therefore, different from financial enterprises, general enterprises don't have all-round control system. The internal control system in listed companies hasn't been introduced uniformly; while the law-abiding control, financial report (accounting) control and publicity control related to law-abiding volunteers are listed in the provisions of Commercial Law, External Audit Act and exchange respectively and have been implemented; as a result, many problems on low efficiency have been caused. So the internal control system which is contained in various laws including law-abiding control system dispersedly must be stipulated uniformly. However, in the short run, current systems shall be maintained for law-abiding supervisors system for financial enterprises as well as internal accounting control system and compliance officer system in External Audit Act. Nevertheless, in the long run, just as internal control system is not implemented additionally for financial enterprises in Japan and the USA, in view of the provisions of Commercial Law in Korea, a unified form is the best for internal control system. But what is more important is that even if internal control system is improved, it can't be definitely guaranteed, either. We must realize the important fact that we need to provide reasonable guarantee for internal control system. Therefore, even if we have established internal control system, we still need to make long-term efforts to improve internal control while supervising internal control organ.

        Improved antimicrobial effect of ginseng extract by heat transformation

        Background: The incidence of halitosis has a prevalence of 22e50% throughout the world and is generally caused by anaerobic oral microorganisms, such as Fusobacterium nucleatum, Clostridium perfringens, and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Previous investigations on the structure-activity relationships of ginsenosides have led to contrasting results. Particularly, the antibacterial activity of less polar ginsenosides against halitosis-related bacteria has not been reported. Methods: Crude saponins extracted from the Panax quinquefolius leaf-stem (AGS) were treated at 130C for 3 h to obtain heat-transformed saponins (HTS). Five ginsenoside-enriched fractions (HTS-1, HTS-2, HTS-3, HTS-4, and HTS-5) and less polar ginsenosides were separated by HP-20 resin absorption and HPLC, and the antimicrobial activity and mechanism were investigated. Results: HPLC with diode-array detection analysis revealed that heat treatment induced an extensive conversion of polar ginsenosides (-Rg1/Re, -Rc, -Rb2, and -Rd) to less polar compounds (-Rg2, -Rg3, -Rg6, -F4, -Rg5, and -Rk1). The antimicrobial assays showed that HTS, HTS-3, and HTS-4 were effective at inhibiting the growth of F. nucleatum, C. perfringens, and P. gingivalis. Ginsenosides-Rg5 showed the best antimicrobial activity against the three bacteria, with the lowest values of minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration. One major reason for this result is that less polar ginsenosides can more easily damage membrane integrity. Conclusion: The results indicated that the less polar ginsenoside-enriched fraction from heat transformation can be used as an antibacterial agent to control halitosis.

        Combined Service Subscription and Delivery Energy-Efficient Scheduling in Mobile Cloud Computing

        Mobile cloud computing (MCC) combines mobile Internet and cloud computing to improve the performance of applications. In MCC, the data processing and storage for mobile devices (MDs) is provided on the remote cloud. However, MCC faces the problem of energy efficiency caused by randomly varying channels. In this paper, by introducing the Lyapunov optimization method, we propose a combined service subscription and delivery (CSSD) algorithm that can guide the users to subscribe to services reasonably. This algorithm can also determine whether to deliver the data and to whom data is sent in the current time unit based on the queue backlog and the channel state. Numerical results validate the correctness and effectiveness of our proposed CSSD algorithm.

        The Entrainment Effect of a Debris Avalanche on the Erodible Substrate in the Presence of Water Flow

        Debris avalanches generally entrain the erodible deposits on their runout path, which can greatly influence their movement process, particularly in the presence of water flow. To study the entrainment effect of debris avalanches, physical modeling experiments were conducted that considered the impact of hopper elevation, the grain size of substrate materials and water flow. The experiment results indicate that the materials entrained by a debris avalanche increase with an increase in elevation of the hopper and particle size of the substrate materials in the rear region of the substrate. The presence of water flow can magnify the entrainment effect and enhance the mobility of the debris avalanche. However, the effect of water flow on the entrainment effect is significantly related to the grain size of the deposits. With a decrease in grain size, a water stream is easier to generate, which can cause intense scouring of the substrate materials and enhance the mobility of the mixed flow of debris and entrained deposits, ultimately leading to a greater affected area.

      • Effect of Low-fat Diet on Breast Cancer Survival: a Meta-analysis

        Background: Even though many studies have examined the possible effect of low-fat diet on breast cancer survival, the relationship remains unclear. Objectives: To summarize the current evidence about the effect of post-diagnostic low-fat diet on recurrence and all-cause mortality of breast cancer. Methods: We conducted a search of Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library and as a result two randomized controlled trials (RCT) and one large multi-center prospective cohort study with 9,966 breast cancer patients were included in this report. Results: Post-diagnostic low-fat diet reduced risk of recurrence of breast cancer by 23% (HR=0.77, 95%CI 0.63 to 0.94, P=0.009) and all cause mortality of breast cancer by 17% (HR=0.83, 95%CI 0.69 to 1.00, P=0.05). Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggested the post-diagnostic low-fat diet can improve breast cancer survival by reducing risk of recurrence. However, more trials of the relationship between low-fat diet and allcause mortality of breast cancer are still needed.

        Generation of Buffalo Mammary Epithelial Cells with Targeted Knockout of 18s rDNA by a CRISPR/Cas9 Adenovirus System

        In recent years, CRISPR/Cas9 has rapidly become one of the most promising genome editing tools because it is simple and easy to use and cost effective. However, the large size of Cas9 sequences limits its application in clinically promising vectors and it also impacts non-viral transfection. In this study, CRISPR/Cas9 adenovirus vectors that target the buffalo 18s rDNA gene were constructed, transfected into 293 cells for adenovirus packaging, and the adenovirus was used to knockout the 18s rDNA gene in buffalo mammary epithelial cells. The results demonstrated that the CRISPR/Cas9 adenovirus vectors for the buffalo 18s rDNA gene could efficiently target the sites as revealed by the fluorescence reporter system. After amplification, the adenovirus titer of Sn458- 18s1 and Sn458-18s2 reached 1.03 × 109PFU/mL and 1.05 × 109 PFU/mL, respectively. For buffalo mammary epithelial cell infection, the efficiency was 100% when the multiplicity of infection (MOI) 100 PFU/mL. There were 9 mutational clones found in the 20 clones, and the gene mutagenesis rate reached 45%. Of these, 2 clones were 35-bp deleted and 7 clones were 12-bp deleted. These results suggested that the adenovirus system overcame the low transfection efficiency of the buffalo mammary epithelial cells associated with using lipid-based methods or electroporation. Moreover, we preliminary developed an efficient technique for multiple-locus gene targeting at repeated sequences of the buffalo genome.

      • Multi-modal Medical Image Fusion Based on the Multiwavelet and Nonsubsampled Direction Filter Bank

        Aiming at solving the fusion problem of multimodal medical images, a novel medical image fusion algorithm is present in this paper. The multiwavelet is combined with the NSDFB to construct the proposed Multi-NSDFB transform. The source images can be decomposed into several lowpass coefficient and highpass coefficient. And all coefficients can be decomposed into four direction subbands. The modified spatial frequency is adopted to motivate the pulse coupled neural network to select the every direction subbands coefficients. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can not only extract more important visual information from source images, but also effectively avoid the introduction of artificial information. The present scheme outperforms the redundant discrete wavelet transform-based, and the Ripplet transform-based in terms of both visual quality and objective evaluation.
