A finite element model is developed to solve the three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations at the steady-state using the LBB satisfying elements. To circumvent the velocity oscillations in high Reynolds number, the streamline upwinding finite element model is developed by minimizing the numerical wavenumber error for the convection term. The mixed finite element formulation is adopted and the resulting unsymmetric and indefinite finite element matrix equations will be solved iteratively. To avoid a Lanczos or a pivoting breakdown, the matrix equation has been normalized. The conjugate gradient solver can be therefore applied to get the unconditionally convergent solution from the resulting symmetric and positive definite matrix equation. To alleviate the drawback of the resulting slower convergence, a preconditioner can be used to reduce the increasing condition number. The time consuming PCG solver will be executed on GPU platform. The matrix-vector multiplication is implemented on GPU using the EBE and mesh coloring techniques. The shared memory and global memory coalesce strategies are also adopted to optimize the speedup performance. The developed code is verified by solving the problem amenable to analytical solutions. The lid-driven cavity problem is then solved for the assessment of speedups.

<P>Lead sulfide colloidal quantum dot (CQD) solar cells demonstrate extremely high short-circuit currents (<I>J</I><SUB>sc</SUB>) and are making decent progress in power conversion efficiencies. However, the low fill factors (FF) and open-circuit voltages have to be addressed with urgency to prevent the stalling of efficiency improvements. This paper highlights the importance of improving hole extraction, which received much less attention as compared to the electron-accepting component of the device architecture (e.g., TiO<SUB>2</SUB> or ZnO). Here, we show the use of semiconducting polymer poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) to create efficient CQD devices by improving hole transport, removing interfacial barriers, and minimizing shunt pathways, thus resulting in an overall improvement in device performance stemming from better <I>J</I><SUB>sc</SUB> and FF.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2016/aamick.2016.8.issue-19/acsami.5b10228/production/images/medium/am-2015-10228h_0008.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/am5b10228'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of psychological factors on Schroth exercise and Pilates exercise to female high school students with idiopathic scoliosis. Methods: Sixteen subjects with over 20 of Cobb`s angle were randomly divided into Schroth exercise group (SEG, n=8) and Pilates exercise group (PEG, n=8). Both training programs were carried out 3 day a week for 12 weeks. Psychological factors were measured using depression scale, self esteem scale and body esteem scale. Results: Both groups showed significant differences in depression scale, self esteem scale and body esteem scale. Schroth exercise group showed greater improvement than Pilates group. Conclusion: Having correct body image affects psychological factors to growing students. Schroth exercise is more effective method to physical and psychological approach of idiopathic scoliosis.

Purpose: This study aims to verify the effects of Pilates exercise using the three-dimensional (3D) Schroth breathing technique on scoliosis patients in comparison with the existing Pilates exercise technique, which uses lateral breathing. Methods: The subjects were 16 scoliosis patients who went to S fitness center in Daegu, Korea. They were randomly and equally divided into a Schroth Pilates exercise group (SPEG), who performed Pilates exercise using 3D Schroth breathing, and a Pilates exercise group (PEG) who performed Pilates exercise using lateral breathing. The subjects conducted the Pilates exercise three times per week for 12 weeks. Changes in their Cobb’s angle, angle of trunk rotation, and chest expansion ability were measured before and after the exercise. Results: Both groups experienced significant improvement in their Cobb’s angle, angle of trunk rotation, and chest expansion ability after the exercise (p<0.05). Between-group comparison after the exercise showed that SPEG’s improvement in Cobb’s angle, angle of trunk rotation, and chest expansion ability were more significant than those of the PEG (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study verified that Pilates exercise using 3D Schroth breathing was more effective in improving scoliosis patients’physical condition than existing Pilates exercise. The researcher anticipates that the 3D Schroth breathing technique will be effectively utilized in other diverse intervention exercises besides Pilates exercise.

As a well-trained trial attorney can show you, anyone is an expert if you narrow the scope of their "expertise" enough... As a practitioner, forensics are important only to the extent that they help or hinder my analysis or theory of the case… Forensics are the replacement for the eye-witness's identification and knowledge… Forensic findings can be your best friend in a trial or your worst enemy… The most important lesson I can offer, whether you are a new prosecutor, new defense attorney, or an old attorney contending with a new science, is ASK the scientist every question that comes to mind without fear, shame, or embarrassment… Ask again and again if you still don't understand. Above is a brief compilation of insights garnered from years of trial experience of the author. Intended for those looking to begin the process of understanding modern forensics application in the courtroom, this paper serves as not only a primer, but more importantly, a practical discussion of the attorney's understanding of the use and limitations in this dynamic scientific arena.

We surveyed the pygmy grasshoppers (Tetrigidae) of Nee Soon Swamp Forest (NSSF), the last substantialfreshwater swamp habitat in Singapore, and found nine species from seven genera, including new lo cality records for Potua coronata Bolívar, 1887 and Thoradonta nodulosa (Stål, 1861). Overall, four sub families were represented: Cladonotinae, Metrodorinae, Tetriginae, and Scelimeninae. Here, wedocument the diversity and describe the intra-specific variation in Loxilobus insidiosus (Bolívar, 1887),Thoradonta nodulosa (Stål, 1861), and Coptotettix spp. as well as report natural history observations ofthese species related to their behavior in the semi-aquatic environment). We also provide a key to thespecies of Tetrigidae from NSSF.
