Pointwise Projective Modules and Some Related Modules
NAOUM-ADIL, GHASAN,JAMIL-ZEANA, ZAKI Department of Mathematics 2003 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.43 No.4
Let $\mathcal{R}$ be a commutative ring with 1, and Let M be a (left) R-module. M is said to be pointwise projective if for each epimorphism ${\alpha}:\mathcal{A}{\rightarrow}\mathcal{B}$, where A and $\mathcal{B}$ are any $\mathcal{R}$-modules, and for each homomorphism ${\beta}:\mathcal{M}{\rightarrow}\mathcal{B}$, then for every $m{\in}\mathcal{M}$, there exists a homomorphism ${\varphi}:\mathcal{M}{\rightarrow}\mathcal{A}$, which may depend on m, such that ${\alpha}{\circ}{\varphi}(m)={\beta}(m)$. Our mean concern in this paper is to study the relations between pointwise projectivemodules with cancellation modules and its geeralization.

A study was conducted to establish the degree of genetic divergence between different hybrid forms and rearing conditions through estimation of the minimum number of genes (allelic pairs) differentiating parents in terms of specific quantitative traits. It was established that the minimum gene numbers differentiating parental lines in the inheritance of cocoon was 1, of cocoon shell weight- between 1 and 2, and of silk filament length- between 2 and 3. The variability in the specific genetic parameter could be explained by the reliability of the statistical-and-genetic method used and the expression of genes affecting the formation of each of the characters tested. Gene expression, in its turns is conditioned both by the gene interaction within the genotypes and the different genotype response to environmental change. To go deep in the problem, experiments should be conducted under strictly controlled conditions, reducing the mathematical-and-genetic analysis to a physiological levels and hence to analyse the genetic nature of the specific quantitative character formation and its genetic control.
Limit states of RC structures with first floor irregularities
Favvata, Maria J.,Naoum, Maria C.,Karayannis, Chris G. Techno-Press 2013 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.47 No.6
The seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures with irregularities leading to soft first floor is studied using capacity assessment procedures. The soft first story effect is investigated for the cases: (i) slab-column connections without beams at the first floor, (ii) tall first story height and (iii) pilotis type building (open ground story). The effects of the first floor irregularity on the RC frame structure performance stages at global and local level (limit states) are investigated. Assessment based on the Capacity Spectrum Method (ATC-40) and on the Coefficient Method (FEMA 356) is also examined. Results in terms of failure modes, capacity curves, interstory drifts, ductility requirements and infills behaviour are presented. From the results it can be deduced that the global capacity of the structures is decreased due to the considered first floor morphology irregularities in comparison to the capacities of the regular structure. An increase of the demands for interstory drift is observed at the first floor level due to the considered irregularities while the open ground floor structure (pilotis type) led to even higher values of interstory drift demands at the first story. In the cases of tall first story and slab-column connections without beams soft-story mechanisms have also been observed at the first floor. Rotational criteria (EC8-part3) showed that the structure with slab-column connections without beams exhibited the most critical response.
