        Artificial neural network controller for automatic ship berthing using head-up coordinate system

        The Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model has been known as one of the most effective theories for automatic ship berthing, as it has learning ability and mimics the actions of the human brain when performing the stages of ship berthing. However, existing ANN controllers can only bring a ship into a berth in a certain port, where the inputs of the ANN are the same as those of the teaching data. This means that those ANN controllers must be retrained when the ship arrives to a new port, which is time-consuming and costly. In this research, by using the headup coordinate system, which includes the relative bearing and distance from the ship to the berth, a novel ANN controller is proposed to automatically control the ship into the berth in different ports without retraining the ANN structure. Numerical simulations were performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller. First, teaching data were created in the original port to train the neural network; then, the controller was tested for automatic berthing in other ports, where the initial conditions of the inputs in the head-up coordinate system were similar to those of the teaching data in the original port. The results showed that the proposed controller has good performance for ship berthing in ports.

        this paper deals with effect of wind forces and moment acting on the training ship SAE NURl. the result of the drift angle and Counter rudder angle due to wind effect are calculated by using the static equilibrium method especially with nonlinear mathematical expression, and then the critical wind velocity is found out. The given results can be applied directly to T/S SAE NURI in handling under the wind condition and used for merchant ships as a referential tool.

        Ship Manoeuvring Performance Experiments Using a Free Running Model Ship

        In this paper, a 3m-class free running model ship will be introduced with its manoeuvring performance experiments. The results of turning circle test and zig-zag test will be explained. The developed system are equipped with GPS, main control computer, wireless LAN, IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), self-propulsion propeller and driving rudder. Its motion can be controlled by RC (Radio Control) and wireless LAN from land based center. Automatic navigation is also available by pre-programmed algorithm. The trajectory of navigation can be acquired by GPS and it provides us with important data for ship’s motion control experiments. The results of manoeuvring performance experiment have shown that the developed free running model ship can be used to verify the test of turning circle and zig-zag. For next step, other experimental researches such as ship collision avoidance system and automatic berthing can be considered in the future.

      • 선박 전과정평가를 위한 운항 인벤토리 분석 연구

        최근 지구 환경 문제의 심각성이 대두되면서, 전과정 평가(Life Cycle Assessment)에 대한 선박 적용 연구가 국제적으로 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 이에 반하여 국내연구 수준은 아직 기초 연구수준에 그치고 있다. 본 논문에서는 진과정평가의 선박 적용에 대한 연구를 다루었다. 특히 선박의 전생에 과정중에서 선박 운항 인벤토리 부분을 다루었다. 대상 선박은 목포해양대학교의 실습선 2척을 모델로 삼았으며 과거 수년간의 실적 데이터를 분석하여 운항인벤토리가 어떻게 구성되는지를 분석하였다. 이 분석을 통하여 선박의 운항과정중에서 소요되는 투입 에너지 및 운항 중 배출되는 오염물질량을 정량적으로 파악할 수 있었다. As the seriousness of the global environment is gaining increasing our attention recently, studies on application of LCA(Life Cycle Assessment) to ship are being carried dynamically in various industry fields. This study was carried out to examine the application of LCA to ship and was focused on the ship operation inventory analysis especially in life cycle assessment. Two training ships in Mokpo maritime university were adopted as ship model. Actual voyage data of last several years was used to analysis the ship's operation inventory. This analysis showed what kinds of energy and the pollutant are consisted by for the inventory and how much they are quantitatively.

        벌크선박과 유조선의 온실 가스 배출 인벤토리 분석

        최근 지구 환경 문제의 심각성이 대두되면서, 전과정 평가(Life Cycle Assessment)에 대한 선박 적용 연구가 조금씩 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 선박 LCA 연구의 일환으로 선박 배기 가스 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 위하여 화물선에 대한 온실 배기 가스 배출 분석을 수행하였다. 대상 선박은 벌크선박과 유조선 등 2척을 모델로 삼았으며 과거 수년간의 실적 데이터를 분석하여 운항인벤토리 중 온실 배출가스의 정략적 데이터를 분석하였다. 이 분석을 통하여 화물선 운송 시 화물 1톤을 1마일 수송하는데 배출되는 배기 가스량의 분석을 시도하였다.       • 지능형 자동운항 선박 연구를 위한 모형선의 개발

        본 연구는, 지능형 자동운항 선박의 시험을 위한 기초 작업으로서, 자유 항주 모형선의 구축에 관한 연구를 다루었다. 이를 위해 MOERI의 KTTC 표준 모형선이 모델로 채택되었으며, 모형선 내부에는 노트북과 서보, 6축 IMU, GPS 등을 탑재하여 제어와 계측이 구현된 자유 항주 모형선을 구축하다. 이 모형선의 외부에는 무선조종기와 모니터링 컴퓨터 구축되어, 모형선의 상태 확인이나 긴급 상황에 대비하도록 하였다. 또한 모형선이 실제 바다와 강에서 운영되기 때문에, 다양한 변수에 대응하게끔 설계되었다. 지능형 선박 항해 시스템 구축을 위한 기초 연구의 일환으로 선박 조종성능 실험을 실시하였다. 선박 선회 실험, 지그재그 실험을 실시하여, 선박 조종성능을 확인할 수 있었고, GPS를 이용하여 선박 궤적을 획득하여 모형선의 실용성을 확인하였다. This research dealt with the system of a free running model ship as a basic approach to intelligent ship navigation system. The KVLCC of MOERI was adopted as standard model. The free running model is equipped with a laptop, servo motor, 6-aixs IMU, GPS and other power system, so it is possible to control the model by a computer and to measure the dynamic data of model ship. Its ground station has a radio control transmitter and monitoring compute. As the model ship is operated in real sea and river site, it is designed to cope for many possibility of operation risk. Some of experiments such as turning circle and zig-zag test were carried out to verify its performance as a intelligent free running ship. It was found that the system can be used as useful utility to confirm ship's manoeuvring performance using ship's trajectory by GPS.

        Development of Computer Program for Solving Astronomical Ship Position Based on Circle of Equal Altitude Equation and SVD-Least Square Algorithm

        This paper presents an improvement for calculating method of astronomical ship position based on circle of equal altitude equation. In addition, to enhance the accuracy of ship position achieved from solving equation system, the authors used singular value decomposition (SVD) in least square method instead of normal decomposition. In maths, the SVD was proved more numerically stable than normal decomposition. Therefore, the solution of equation system will be more efficient and the result would be more accurate than previous methods. By proposal algorithm, a computer program have been developed to help the navigators in calculating directly ship position when the modern equipment has failure. Finally, some of experiments are carried out to verify effectiveness of proposed algorithm, the results show that the accuracy of ship position based on new method is better than the intercept method.

      • Automatic collision avoidance algorithm based on improved artificial potential field method

        With the development of science and technology, various research on ship collision avoidance has also developed rapidly. The research and development of ship collision avoidance technology has also received high attention from many researchers. This paper proposes a new collision avoidance algorithm for ships based on the artificial force field collision avoidance method. Using the simulation platform, the simulation results show that ships can successfully avoid collision in open water under single ship and multi ship situations, and the research results are relatively ideal.
