A versatile and high yielding procedure for the direct generation of 2-substituted benzimidazoles from onitroaniline and aryl aldehydes in the presence of sodium dithionite as reducing agent under microwave irradiation is described. The obtained products were confirmed by physical and spectroscopic data such as IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR. This procedure has a lot of advantages including; excellent yields of products, short reaction times, mild reaction conditions, easy work-up and other noteworthy advantages which make this method a valid contribution to the existing methodologies.

Power consumption has become the key constraint in electronics design, since the MOSFET threshold and hence the supply voltage can no longer be scaled. This trend calls for new device concepts such as Spintronic devices that are fundamentally different from CMOS. A carbon nanotube field-effect transistor (CNTFET) refers to a field-effect transistor that utilizes a single carbon nanotube or an array of carbon nanotubes as the channel material instead of bulk silicon in the traditional MOSFET structure. Magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) is an emerging technology which has many advantages when used in logic in memory structures in conjunction with CMOS. In this paper, we present novel designs of hybrid CNTFET-MTJ circuits; AND, XOR and 1-bit full adder. The proposed CNTFET-MTJ full adder design has 20 times lower Power-delay-product (PDP) compared to the previous CMOS- MTJ full adder. Also, the delay in CNTFET-MTJ circuit is reduced 20 times compared to the CMOS- MTJ circuit.

economical and environmental friendly method has been developed for the synthesis of N,N'- bis(salicylidene)-arylmethanediamine derivatives. This procedure were carried out through one pot three component reaction of two different aromatic aldehydes and ammonium acetate salt in the presence of a base under free solvent conditions at room temperature. The Schiff base products were purely obtained in excellent yields and short reaction times.

A simple and efficient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of 1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthene derivativesin water under ultrasound irradiation is described. These heterocycles were prepared by condensation ofdimedone with various aromatic aldehydes in the presence of Brønsted acidic ionic liquids as aconvenient, cheap, readily synthesized and eco-friendly catalyst. This procedure has a lot of advantagessuch as: excellent yields, simplicity of the workup, low cost, short reaction times and green conditions. Ionic liquids could be recycled several times without significant loss of activity and high purity.
Epidemiology of Leukemia and Multiple Myeloma in Golestan, Iran

Background: The aim of this paper was to present the incidence rates of leukemia and multiple myeloma (MM) in Golestan province located in northeastern Iran during 2004-2009. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Data on newly diagnosed (incident) leukemia and MM cases were obtained from collected from Golestan population-based cancer registry. Data was entered into CanReg-4 software. Age standardized incidence rates (ASR) (per 100000 person-years) for leukemia and MM were calculated. Data on Golestan population was obtained from the data of Iranian national census in 2006. Results: Totally, 11036 new cancer cases were registered in GPRC from 2004-2009. Leukemia and MM accounted for 693 and 124 of cases, respectively. The mean age in patients with leukemia and MM was 43.8 and 62.4 years, respectively. The ASRs for leukemia among men and women were 10.4 and 7.8, respectively (p<0.001). The ASRs for MM were 2.1 and 2 in men and women, respectively (p=0.93). The rate of leukemia was significantly higher in rural areas (p=0.02) whereas the incidence of MM was higher in urban areas (p<0.001). Conclusions: Our results showed a high incidence rate of leukemia in Golestan province of Iran. The incidence of leukemia was significantly higher in males and residents of rural areas. High exposure to pesticides and other agricultural related products may be a possible explanation for epidemiological pattern of leukemia in this area. Determining and controlling important risk factors, especially environmental factors, of leukemia may lead to decrease in its burden in Golestan province of Iran.

The interaction between ionic surfactants and different nonionic molecules and polymers are studied using ion surfactant selective electrode. From the experimental data, critical concentrations of the interaction and binding process are evaluated. The interaction between hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HTAB) with polyethylene glycol (PEG) in three molecular weights (1000, 10000 and 100000) and also schiff-bases, 2-[2-carboxyphenyl nitrilomethylidyne]-phenol (ortho CNP), 2-[3-carboxyphenyl nitrilomethylidyne]-phenol (meta CNP)and 2-[4-carboxyphenyl nitrilomethylidyne]-phenol (para CNP) with the potentiometric method were investigated using HTAB membrane selective electrode. In the case of PEG with increasing molecular weights more interaction to HTAB occurs. The electromotive force (EMF) data also showed that interaction between para CNP with HTAB is more than the other schiff-bases. It seems this case related to less space interference of COOH group for that compound. The onset of binding (T1) of course is the same for three schiff-base molecules.

ZnO: Ag·Al nano-catalyst was synthesized by microwave technique. The characterization and evaluation of this semiconductor catalyst was examined in contrast with ZnO and ZnO:Ag by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), tunneling electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Thermodynamic study of combustion synthesis showed the reaction temperature for ZnO: Ag·Al samples decreased to 481.48 oC compared to ZnO that is 1141 oC. Tauc’s plot was used to calculate the band gap of samples and the location of absorption edge was found at 380 nm. Different molar ratios of Ag and Al were examined to find the best activity of catalyst. In this study, reactive blue 19 (RB19) as a water pollution was used to find the efficiency of catalyst, and the effect of pH on the reaction was studied in a batch reactor under UV radiation. Also, the recyclability experiments confirm that the synthesized ZnO: Ag·Al (7mole% Ag and 3% mole Al) has responsible photocatalytic activity as compared to ZnO at a similar operating condition.
