We considered two kinds of numerical modeling techniques for the dynamic response of a structure subjected to a ground acceleration time history. One of the techniques is based on large mass model and the other is acceleration field model. Recently, the authors have presented useful theorems on the numerical behavior of dynamic responses of large mass method when a single degree-of-freedom spring-mass system is excited by a ground acceleration. In this paper, to extend the theorems to those for multi degrees-of-freedom system, we analyzed the equations of motion of the two models that have two degrees-of-freedom. And we provided extended theorems for the large mass method. Carrying out numerical tests for a simple two degrees-of-freedom spring-mass system, we compared numerical results of the large mass model with analytic solutions. We have shown that the extended theorems give us a clear insight on the performance of the large mass method.
