Vol.0 No.29

<P>In their early days, brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) were only considered as control channel for end users with severe motor impairments such as people in the locked-in state. But, thanks to the multidisciplinary progress achieved over the last decade, the range of BCI applications has been substantially enlarged. Indeed, today BCI technology cannot only translate brain signals directly into control signals, but also can combine such kind of artificial output with a natural muscle-based output. Thus, the integration of multiple biological signals for real-time interaction holds the promise to enhance a much larger population than originally thought end users with preserved residual functions who could benefit from new generations of assistive technologies. A BCI system that combines a BCI with other physiological or technical signals is known as hybrid BCI (hBCI). In this work, we review the work of a large scale integrated project funded by the European commission which was dedicated to develop practical hybrid BCIs and introduce them in various fields of applications. This article presents an hBCI framework, which was used in studies with nonimpaired as well as end users with motor impairments.</P>
THE GROUP OF HAMILTONIAN HOMEOMORPHISMS IN THE L∞-NORM
Muller, Stefan Korean Mathematical Society 2008 대한수학회지 Vol.45 No.6
The group Hameo (M, $\omega$) of Hamiltonian homeomorphisms of a connected symplectic manifold (M, $\omega$) was defined and studied in [7] and further in [6]. In these papers, the authors consistently used the $L^{(1,{\infty})}$-Hofer norm (and not the $L^{\infty}$-Hofer norm) on the space of Hamiltonian paths (see below for the definitions). A justification for this choice was given in [7]. In this article we study the $L^{\infty}$-case. In view of the fact that the Hofer norm on the group Ham (M, $\omega$) of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms does not depend on the choice of the $L^{(1,{\infty})}$-norm vs. the $L^{\infty}$-norm [9], Y.-G. Oh and D. McDuff (private communications) asked whether the two notions of Hamiltonian homeomorphisms arising from the different norms coincide. We will give an affirmative answer to this question in this paper.
Underwater Acoustic Mavlink Communication for Swarming AUVS
Muller, Yukiko,Oshiro, Shiho,Motohara, Takuma,Kinjo, Atsushi,Suzuki, Taisaku,Wada, Tomohisa International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.4
The objective of this project is to conduct an underwater survey. The primary goal is to develop a device that can achieve the desired output under test conditions. For this reason, certain practical considerations must be taken into account, and the implementation is then developed to be carried out to obtain stable performance with the available hardware based on that experiment. The experiment was performed via BlueROV2 (Remotely Operated Vehicle) using RaspberryPi and softwares such as QGC (QGroundControl) and ArduPilot. This paper explains the work, the results with the collected data and how we implemented the work is presented in the end. The intention of this experiment is to connect two PCs using RaspberryPi with MAVLink communication using a Commercial-Off-The-Shelf device.
Differential Rapid Screening of Phytochemicals by Leaf Spray Mass Spectrometry
Muller, Thomas,Cooks, R. Graham Korean Chemical Society 2014 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.35 No.3
Ambient ionization can be achieved by generating an electrospray directly from plant tissue ("leaf spray"). The resulting mass spectra are characteristic of ionizable phytochemicals in the plant material. By subtracting the leaf spray spectra recorded from the petals of two hibiscus species H. moscheutos and H. syriacus one gains rapid access to the metabolites that differ most in the two petals. One such compound was identified as the sambubioside of quercitin (or delphinidin) while others are known flavones. Major interest centered on a $C_{19}H_{29}NO_5$ compound that occurs only in the large H. moscheutos bloom. Attempts were made to characterize this compound by mass spectrometry alone as a test of such an approach. This showed that the compound is an alkaloid, assigned to the polyhydroxylated pyrrolidine class, and bound via a $C_3$ hydrocarbon unit to a monoterpene.

<P>Summary</P><P>The alternative sigma factor &sgr;E is activated by unfolded outer membrane proteins (OMPs) and plays an essential role in <I>Salmonella</I> pathogenesis. The canonical pathway of &sgr;E activation in response to envelope stress involves sequential proteolysis of the anti-sigma factor RseA by the PDZ proteases DegS and RseP. Here we show that &sgr;E in <I>Salmonella enterica</I> sv. Typhimurium can also be activated by acid stress. A &sgr;E-deficient mutant exhibits increased susceptibility to acid pH and reduced survival in an acidified phagosomal vacuole. Acid activation of &sgr;E-dependent gene expression is independent of the unfolded OMP signal or the DegS protease but requires processing of RseA by RseP. The RseP PDZ domain is indispensable for acid induction, suggesting that acid stress may disrupt an inhibitory interaction between RseA and the RseP PDZ domain to allow RseA proteolysis in the absence of antecedent action of DegS. These observations demonstrate a novel environmental stimulus and activation pathway for the &sgr;E regulon that appear to be critically important during <I>Salmonella</I>–host cell interactions.</P>
HCN AND HCO+ EMISSION IN M31 : TRACING THE DENSE MOLECULAR GAS IN A GALACTIC DISK
MULLER SEBASTIEN,BROUILLET NATHALIE,HERPIN FABRICE,BRAINE JONATHAN,JACQ THIERRY The Korean Astronomical Society 2005 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.38 No.2
We present mm observations with the IRAM 30m radiotelescope of the HCN (J=1-0) and HCO+ (J=1-0) emission lines from Giant Moleculat Clouds (GMC) in the disk of the Andromeda Galaxy, The selected GMC targets have various morphology and environments, including locations within spiral arms or in interarm regions and with galactocentric radii ranging from 2.4 to 15.5 kpc over the disk. The radial distributions of the ratios HCN/CO and HCO+ /CO are discussed and their values are compared to other galaxies.
Velocity measurements in complex flows of non-Newtonian fluids
Muller, Susan J. The Korean Society of Rheology 2002 Korea-Australia rheology journal Vol.14 No.3
Experimental methods for making quantitative measurements of velocity fields in non-Newtonian fluids are reviewed. Techniques based on light scattering spectroscopy - laser Doppler velocimetry and homodyne light scattering spectroscopy, techniques based on imaging the displacement of markers - including particle image velocimetry and molecular tagging velocimetry, and techniques based on nuclear magnetic resonance imaging are discussed. The special advantages and disadvantages of each method are summarized, and their applications to non-Newtonian flows are briefly reviewed. Example data from each technique are also included.
