Improved Stability and Damping Characteristics of LCL-Filter Based Distributed Generation System

        Faiz Muhammad Talib,Khan Danish,Khan Muhammad Mansoor,Ali Abdar,Tang Houjun 대한전기학회 2021 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.16 No.3

The voltage source inverter is a key component in the distributed power generation systems where the LCL -fi lter is a popular choice for interfacing with the grid. However, the well-known resonance issue associated with the LCL -fi lter deteriorates the control performance and risk the inverter system stability. The inverter control design plays a signifi cant role to ensure the quality of the injected grid current and stable operation according to the requirements of grid interconnection standards. This paper deals with an alternative control design method that modifi es the internal damping loop design to improve the stability and damping characteristics. The proposed design employs a compensator across the fi lter and feedbacks the output of the augmented plant at the reference voltage point, and named as parallel feedforward compensation method. The fi lter capacitor current measured for damping loop implementation, and a high-pass fi lter compensator adopted in the proposed confi guration. The proportional capacitor current feedback compensation method is considered for comparative studies. The current loop stability and control performance characteristics are investigated in detail under the resonance frequency and fi lter parameters variation condition. The signifi cant outcomes of the proposed scheme are faster dynamic response, higher delay compensation capability, relatively improved resonance suppression, and potential for better tracking performance. An experimental prototype is developed to validate the effi cacy of the proposed method.

Diversity in Betasatellites Associated with Cotton Leaf Curl Disease During Source-To-Sink Movement Through a Resistant Host

        Khan, Iftikhar Ali,Akhtar, Khalid Pervaiz,Akbar, Fazal,Hassan, Ishtiaq,Amin, Imran,Saeed, Muhammad,Mansoor, Shahid The Korean Society of Plant Pathology 2016 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.32 No.1

Cotton leaf curl is devastating disease of cotton characterized by leaf curling, vein darkening and enations. The disease symptoms are induced by DNA satellite known as Cotton leaf curl Multan betasatellite (CLCuMuB), dominant betasatellite in cotton but another betasatellite known as Chili leaf curl betasatellite (ChLCB) is also found associated with the disease. Grafting experiment was performed to determine if host plant resistance is determinant of dominant population of betasatellite in cotton (several distinct strains of CLCuMuB are associated with the disease). Infected scion of Gossypium hirsutum collected from field (the source) was grafted on G. arboreum, a diploid cotton species, resistant to the disease. A healthy scion of G. hirsutum (sink) was grafted at the top of G. arboreum to determine the movement of virus/betasatellite to upper susceptible scion of G. hirsutum. Symptoms of disease appeared in the upper scion and presence of virus/betasatellite in the upper scion was confirmed via molecular techniques, showing that virus/betasatellite was able to move to upper scion through resistant G. arboreum. However, no symptoms appeared on G. arboreum. Betasatelites were cloned and sequenced from lower scion, upper scion and G. arboreum which show that the lower scion contained both CLCuMuB and ChLCB, however only ChLCB was found in G. arboreum. The upper scion contained CLCuMuB with a deletion of 78 nucleotides (nt) in the non-coding region between Arich sequence and ${\beta}C1$ gene and insertion of 27 nt in the middle of ${\beta}C1$ ORF. This study may help in investigating molecular basis of resistance in G. arboreum.

Outcomes of Primary Unilateral Cheiloplasty in Same-Day Surgical Settings

        Mansoor Khan,Hidayat Ullah,Asif Aziz,Muhammad Tahir 대한성형외과학회 2016 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.43 No.3

Background Financial, clinical, and psychological considerations have made same-day surgery an attractive option for a variety of procedures. This article aimed to analyse the postoperative results of same-day primary unilateral cleft nasolabial repair. Methods This study was performed from 2011 to 2014. Unilateral cleft lip patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria were preoperatively classified as mild, moderate, and severe. All patients underwent same-day surgery and were discharged after satisfying the appropriate clinical criteria, receiving thorough counselling, and the establishment of a means of communication by phone. Postoperative outcomes were assessed and stratified according to preoperative severity and the type of repair. Results A total of 423 primary unilateral cleft lip patients were included. Fisher’s anatomical subunit approximation technique was the most common procedure, followed by Noordhoff’s technique. The postoperative outcome was good in 89.8% of cases, fair in 9.9% of cases, and poor in 0.2% of cases. The complication rate was 1.18% (n=5), and no instances of mortality were observed. The average hospital stay was 7.5 hours, leading to a cost reduction of 19% in comparison with patients who stayed overnight for observation. Conclusions Mild unilateral cleft lip was the most common deformity for which Fisher’s anatomical subunit approximation technique was performed in most of the cases, with satisfactory postoperative outcomes. Refinements in the cleft rhinoplasty techniques over the course of the study improved the results regarding cleft nasal symmetry. Single-day primary unilateral cleft cheiloplasty was found to be a cost-effective procedure that did not pose an additional risk of complications.

      • Association of rs1042522 Polymorphism with Increased Risk of Prostate Adenocarcinoma in the Pakistani Population and its HuGE Review

Khan, Mohammad Haroon,Rashid, Hamid,Mansoor, Qaiser,Hameed, Abdul,Ismail, Muhammad Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.9

Prostate adenocarcinoma is one of the leading causes of cancer related mortality in men but still limited knowledge is available about its associated functional SNPs including rs1042522 (Pro72Arg). The present study was undertaken to explore the association of this SNP with susceptibility to prostate adenocarcinoma along with its structural and functional impacts in the Pakistani population in a case-control study. Three-dimensional structure of human TP53 with Pro72Arg polymorphism was predicted through homology modeling, refined and validated for detailed structure-based assessment. We also carried out a HuGE review of the previous available data for this polymorphism. Different genetic models were used to evaluate the genotypes association with the increased risk of PCa (Allelic contrast: OR=0.0.34, 95%CI 0.24-0.50, p=0.000; GG vs CC: OR=0.17, 95%CI 0.08-0.38, p=0.000; Homozygous: OR=0.08, 95%CI 0.04-0.15, p=0.000; GC vs CC: OR=2.14, 95%CI 1.01-4.51, p=0.046; Recessive model: OR=0.10, 95%CI 0.05-0.18, p=0.000; Log Additive: OR=3.54, 95%CI 2.13-5.89, p=0.000) except the Dominant model (OR=0.77, 95%CI 0.39-1.52, p=0.46). Structure and functional analysis revealed that the SNP in the proline rich domain is responsible for interaction with HRMT1L2 and WWOX. In conclusion, it was observed that the Arg coding G allele is highly associated with increased risk of prostate adenocarcinoma in the Pakistani population (p=0.000).

Raspberry Pi assisted facial expression recognition framework for smart security in law-enforcement services

        Sajjad, Muhammad,Nasir, Mansoor,Ullah, Fath U Min,Muhammad, Khan,Sangaiah, Arun Kumar,Baik, Sung Wook Elsevier science 2019 Information sciences Vol.479 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Facial expression recognition is an active research area for which the research community has presented a number of approaches due to its diverse applicability in different real-world situations such as real-time suspicious activity recognition for smart security, monitoring, marketing, and group sentiment analysis. However, developing a robust application with high accuracy is still a challenging task mainly due to the inherent problems related to human emotions, lack of sufficient data, and computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a novel, cost-effective, and energy-efficient framework designed for suspicious activity recognition based on facial expression analysis for smart security in law-enforcement services. The Raspberry Pi camera captures the video stream and detects faces using the Viola Jones algorithm. The face region is pre-processed using Gabor filter and median filter prior to feature extraction. Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF (ORB) features are then extracted and the support vector machine (SVM) classifier is trained, which predicts the known emotions (Angry, Disgust, Fear, Happy, Neutral, Sad, and Surprise). Based on the collective emotions of the faces, we predict the sentiment behind the scene. Using this approach, we predict if a certain situation is hostile and can prevent it prior to its occurrence. The system is tested on three publically available datasets: Cohen Kande (CK+), MMI, and JAFEE. A detailed comparative analysis based on SURF, SIFT, and ORB is also presented. Experimental results verify the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed system in accurate recognition of suspicious activity compared to state-of-the-art methods and validate its superiority for enhancing security in law enforcement services.</P>

Power Flow Control at the Subnetwork-Level in Microgrids

Liu, Kun,Khan, Muhammad Mansoor,Rana, Ahmad,Fei, Dong The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.2

This paper presents the idea of a smart load that can adjust the input power flow based on the intermittent power available from RESs (Renewable Energy Resources) to regulate the line voltage, and draw a constant power from the grid. To this effect, an innovative power flow controller is presented based on a Resistive ES (Electric Spring) in combination with a PEAT (Power Electronics based Adjustable Transformer), which can effectively shape the load power flow at the subnetwork level. With a PEAT incorporated in the step down transformer at the grid side, the proposed controller can supply non-critical loads through local RESs, and the critical loads can draw a relatively constant power from the grid. If there is an abundance of power produced by the RESs, the controller can supply both non-critical loads and critical loads through the RES, which significantly reduces the power demand from the grid. The principle, practicality, stability analysis, and controller design are presented. In addition, simulation results show that the power flow controller performs well in shaping the load power flow at the subnetwork level, which decreases the power demand on the grid. Experimental results are also provided to show that the controller can be realized.
