      • Distributed Incremental Approximate Frequent Itemset Mining Using MapReduce

Mohsin Shaikh,Irfan Ali Tunio,Syed Muhammad Shehram Shah,Fareesa Khan Sohu,Abdul Aziz,Ahmad Ali International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2023 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.23 No.5

Traditional methods for datamining typically assume that the data is small, centralized, memory resident and static. But this assumption is no longer acceptable, because datasets are growing very fast hence becoming huge from time to time. There is fast growing need to manage data with efficient mining algorithms. In such a scenario it is inevitable to carry out data mining in a distributed environment and Frequent Itemset Mining (FIM) is no exception. Thus, the need of an efficient incremental mining algorithm arises. We propose the Distributed Incremental Approximate Frequent Itemset Mining (DIAFIM) which is an incremental FIM algorithm and works on the distributed parallel MapReduce environment. The key contribution of this research is devising an incremental mining algorithm that works on the distributed parallel MapReduce environment.

      • Synthesis, characterization and potential applications of Ag@ZnO nanocomposites with S@g-C3N4

        Ahmad, Naveed,Javed, Mohsin,Qamar, Muhammad A.,Kiran, Umbreen,Shahid, Sammia,Akbar, Muhammad B.,Sher, Mudassar,Amjad, Adnan Techno-Press 2022 Advances in materials research Vol.11 No.3

It includes the synthesis of pristine ZnO nanoparticles and a series of Ag-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles was carried out by reflux method by varying the amount of silver (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9% by mol.). The morphology of these nanoparticles was investigated by SEM, XRD and FT-IR techniques. These techniques show that synthesized particles are homogenous spherical nanoparticles having an average particle size of about 50-100 nm along with some agglomeration. The photocatalytic activity of the ZnO nanoparticles and Ag doped ZnO nanoparticles were investigated via photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) as a standard dye. The data from the photocatalytic activity of these nanoparticles show that 7% Ag-doped ZnO nanoparticles exhibit much enhanced photocatalytic activity as compared to pristine ZnO nanoparticles and other percentages of Ag-doped ZnO nanoparticles. Furthermore, 7% Ag-doped ZnO was made composites with sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride by physical mixing method and a series of nanocomposites were made (3.5, 7.5, 25, 50, 75% by weight). It was observed that the 25% composites exhibited better photocatalytic performance than pristine S-g-C 3 N 4 and pure 7% Ag-doped ZnO. Tauc's plot also supports the photodegradation results.

Investigations on electrical properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) doped with 1-methyl-3-n-decyl-imidazolium bromide ionic liquid

        Ahmad I. Ayesh,Mahmoud A. Mohsin,Mohammad Y. Haik,Yousef Haik 한국물리학회 2012 Current Applied Physics Vol.12 No.4

Thin films of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) that are 100e500 mm thick were prepared by solution casting method. Various ratios of 1-methyl-3-n-decyl-imidazolium bromide ionic liquid [MDIM](+)Br(-), were used as dopants (plasticizers) to control the conductivity of the PVA thin films. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to indicate the detailed interaction of PVA with proton of the dopant in the blends. Ac impedance spectroscopy was used to investigate the impedance of the films within a frequency range of 10e106 Hz as a function of temperature between 298 and 425 K. Each film with a precise doping concentration was sandwiched between two stainlessesteel electrodes. The results showed that the electrical conductivity can be engineered by controlling the [MDIM](+)Br(-) doping concentration. Therefore, those films have potential to be used in flexible and cheap organic device applications.

Effect of ethyl acetate aroma on viability of human breast cancer and normal kidney epithelial cells in vitro

        Mohsin A. Khan,Rumana Ahmad,Anand N. Srivastava 한국한의학연구원 2017 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.6 No.1

Background: Aromatherapy is used in clinical settings for patients suffering from several chronic and critical diseases such as cancer. Ethyl acetate (EA) is a colorless liquid with a characteristic fruity smell and is naturally present in fruits and wines. Methods: In the present study, the effect of the aroma of EA was evaluated on human breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 and normal cell line, Vero. Cell line viability and mechanism of EA cytotoxicity were determined by Trypan blue dye exclusion assay and phase contrast microscopy. Results: It was found that EA at a concentration of 0.026 M was effective in causing considerable cytotoxicity in breast cancer cells (without even coming in contact with the culture medium and cells), while showing no effect on normal cells. Mechanism of action of EA on cancer and Vero cells was investigated by DNA fragmentation and dye binding assays using agarose gel electrophoresis (AGE) and fluorescence microscopy/cytometry, respectively. It was found that EA aroma induced predominantly necrosis in the cancer cells exposed to it. Conclusion: A study such as this has not been attempted before and results need further investigation before EA aroma can be used as a complementary therapy.

Augmentation of Fractional-Order PI Controller with Nonlinear Error-Modulator for Enhancing Robustness of DC-DC Boost Converters

        Omer Saleem,Mohsin Rizwan,Ahmad Khizar,Muaaz Ahmad 전력전자학회 2019 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.19 No.4

This paper presents a robust-optimal control strategy to improve the output-voltage error-tracking and control capability of aDC-DC boost converter. The proposed strategy employs an optimized Fractional-order Proportional-Integral (FoPI) controllerthat serves to eliminate oscillations, overshoots, undershoots and steady-state fluctuations. In order to significantly improve theerror convergence-rate during a transient response, the FoPI controller is augmented with a pre-stage nonlinear error-modulator. The modulator combines the variations in the error and error-derivative via the signed-distance method. Then it feeds theaggregated-signal to a smooth sigmoidal control surface constituting an optimized hyperbolic secant function. The error-derivative isevaluated by measuring the output-capacitor current in order to compensate the hysteresis effect rendered by the parasiticimpedances. The resulting modulated-signal is fed to the FoPI controller. The fixed controller parameters are meta-heuristicallyselected via a Particle-Swarm-Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The proposed control scheme exhibits rapid transits with improveddamping in its response which aids in efficiently rejecting external disturbances such as load-transients and input-fluctuations. The superior robustness and time-optimality of the proposed control strategy is validated via experimental results.

Luqman, Muhammad,Javed, Muhammad Mohsin,Daud, Shakeela,Raheem, Nafeesa,Ahmad, Jamil,Khan, Amin-Ul-Haq Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.7

Background: Lung cancer is one of the most prevalent malignancies in the world and both incidence and mortality rates are continuing to rise in Pakistan. However, epidemiological studies to identify common lung cancer determinants in the Pakistani population have been limited. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective case-control study, 400 cases and 800 controls were enrolled from different hospitals of all provinces of Pakistan. Information about socio-demographic, occupational, lifestyle and dietary variables was extracted by questionnaire from all subjects. Odd ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. and dose-response associations were also assessed for suitable factors. Results: Strong associations were observed for smoking (OR=9.4, 95%CI=6.9-12.8), pesticide exposure (OR=5.1, 95%CI=3.1-8.3), exposure to diesel exhaust (OR=3.1, 95%CI=2.1-4.5), red meat consumption (OR=2.9, 95%CI=1.8-4.7) and chicken consumption (OR=2.8, 95%CI=1.7-49). Other associated factors observed were welding fumes (OR=2.5, 95%CI=1.0-6.5), sedentary living (OR=2.0, 95%CI=1.6-2.6), family history (OR=2.0, 95%CI=0.8-4.9), wood dust (OR=1.9, 95%CI=1.2-3.1), tea consumption (OR=1.8, 95%CI=1.2-2.6), coffee consumption (OR=1.8, 95%CI=1.1-2.8), alcoholism (OR=1.7, 95%CI=1.1-2.5) and asbestos exposure(OR=1.5, 95%CI=0.5-4.4). Consumption of vegetables (OR=0.3, 95%CI=0.2-0.4), juices (OR=0.3, 95%CI=0.3-0.4), fruits (OR=0.7, 95%CI=0.5-0.9) and milk (OR=0.6, 95%CI=0.5-0.8) showed reduction in risk of lung cancer. Strongest dose-response relationships were observed for smoking ($X^2=333.8$, $p{\leq}0.0000001$), pesticide exposure ($X^2=50.9$, $p{\leq}0.0000001$) and exposure to diesel exhaust ($X^2=51.8$, $p{\leq}0.0000001$). Conclusions: Smoking, pesticide exposure, diesel exhaust and meat consumption are main lung cancer determinants in Pakistan. Consuming vegetables, fruits, milk and juices can reduce the risk of lung cancer risk, as in other countries.

A Comparative Study on the Calculation of Wind Load and Analysis of Communication Tower as per TIA-222-G and TIA-222-H Standards

Ali Murtaza Rasool,Mohsin Usman Qureshi,Muhammad Ahmad 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.25 No.2

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is responsible to provide recognized literature for the analysis & design of communication towers. TIA in 2005 released a standard “TIA-222-G” which has gained a widespread reference and most of the existing tower structures around the world have been constructed as per guidelines of this standard. However, in 2018, TIA released the latest standard TIA-222-H. To date, not much studies are available describing how much change in member axial forces occurs while using latest standard for analysis of tower structures. The main objective of this study is to provide guidelines for wind load calculation on tower body, appurtenances and other structures and to compare the member axial forces induced by the wind loads as per TIA-222-G & TIA-222-H standards. The analysis results show that member axial forces are not much affected when the tower was analyzed in accordance with both the standards. However, forces might increase when the basic wind speed increased more than 200 kph as per TIA-222-H standard.

Investigation of dust particle removal effi ciency of self-priming venturi scrubber using computational fl uid dynamics

        Sarim Ahmed,Hassan Mohsin,Kamran Qureshi,Ajmal Shah,Waseem Siddique,Khalid Waheed,Naseem Irfan,Masroor Ahmad,Amjad Farooq 한국원자력학회 2018 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.50 No.5

A venturi scrubber is an important element of Filtered Containment Venting System (FCVS) for theremoval of aerosols in contaminated air. The present work involves computational fluid dynamics(CFD) study of dust particle removal efficiency of a venturi scrubber operating in self-priming mode usingANSYS CFX. Titanium oxide (TiO2) particles having sizes of 1 micron have been taken as dust particles. CFD methodology to simulate the venturi scrubber has been first developed. The cascade atomizationand breakup (CAB) model has been used to predict deformation of water droplets, whereas the EulerianeLagrangian approach has been used to handle multiphase flow involving air, dust, and water. Thedeveloped methodology has been applied to simulate venturi scrubber geometry taken from the literature. Dust particle removal efficiency has been calculated for forced feed operation of venturi scrubberand found to be in good agreement with the results available in the literature. In the second part, venturiscrubber along with a tank has been modeled in CFX, and transient simulations have been performed tostudy self-priming phenomenon. Self-priming has been observed by plotting the velocity vector fields ofwater. Suction of water in the venturi scrubber occurred due to the difference between static pressure inthe venturi scrubber and the hydrostatic pressure of water inside the tank. Dust particle removal efficiencyhas been calculated for inlet air velocities of 1 m/s and 3 m/s. It has been observed that removalefficiency is higher in case of higher inlet air velocity.
