A Fast Response Smectic LCD using Induced Polarization
Mochizuki, Akihiro The Korean Infomation Display Society 2005 Journal of information display Vol.6 No.3
In this paper, a general performance of the PSS-LCD or Polarization Shielded Smectic Liquid Crystal Display is discussed. This smectic base LCD does not use any spontaneous polarization, but uses induced polarization just sa me with current nematic base LCDs. Specific initial molecular alignment as well as specific cell design realizes ext remely fast optical response speed with native wide viewing angle. Moreover, this performance is provided by full compatible electronics for current conventional LCDs. A general performance of the PSS-LCD is introduced herein.
Similarity in Neuronal Firing Regimes across Mammalian Species

The architectonic subdivisions of the brain are believed to be functional modules, each processing parts of global functions. Previously, we showed that neurons in different regions operate in different firing regimes in monkeys. It is possible that firing regimes reflect differences in underlying information processing, and consequently the firing regimes in homologous regions across animal species might be similar. We analyzed neuronal spike trains recorded from behaving mice, rats, cats, and monkeys. The firing regularity differed systematically, with differences across regions in one species being greater than the differences in similar areas across species. Neuronal firing was consistently most regular in motor areas, nearly random in visual and prefrontal/medial prefrontal cortical areas, and bursting in the hippocampus in all animals examined. This suggests that firing regularity (or irregularity) plays a key role in neural computation in each functional subdivision, depending on the types of information being carried.

INVERSE PROBLEM FOR INTERIOR SPECTRAL DATA OF THE DIRAC OPERATOR
Mochizuki, Kiyoshi,Trooshin, Igor Korean Mathematical Society 2001 대한수학회논문집 Vol.16 No.3
In this paper the inverse problems for the Dirac Operator are studied. A set of values of eigenfunctions in some internal point and spectrum are taken as a data. Uniqueness theorems are obtained. The approach that was used in the investigation of inverse problems for interior spectral data of the Sturm-Liouville operator is employed.
FAR-INFRARED [C II] EMISSION FROM THE CENTRAL REGIONS OF SPIRAL GALAXIES
MOCHIZUKI KENJI The Korean Astronomical Society 2004 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.37 No.4
Anomalies in the far-infrared [C II] 158 ${\mu}m$ line emission observed in the central one-kiloparsec regions of spiral galaxies are reviewed. Low far-infrared intensity ratios of the [C II] line to the continuum were observed in the center of the Milky Way, because the heating ratio of the gas to the dust is reduced by the soft interstellar radiation field due to late-type stars in the Galactic bulge. In contrast, such low line-to-continuum ratios were not obtained in the center of the nearby spiral M31, in spite of its bright bulge. A comparison with numerical simulations showed that a typical column density of the neutral interstellar medium between illuminating sources at $hv {\~} 1 eV $ is $N_H {\le}10^{21}\;cm^{-2}$ in the region; the medium is translucent for photons sufficiently energetic to heat the grains but not sufficiently energetic to heat the gas. This interpretation is consistent with the combination of the extremely high [C Il]/CO J = 1-0 line intensity ratios and the low recent star-forming activity in the region; the neutral interstellar medium is not sufficiently opaque to protect the species even against the moderately intense incident UV radiation. The above results were unexpected from classical views of the [C II] emission, which was generally considered to trace intense interstellar UV radiation enhanced by active star formation.

The driving support systems which can provide information of the surrounding vehicles or pedestrians to the driver has a large potential to reduce traffic accidents and are expected to become widely used. Human machine interface (HMI) is one of the important issues to support the driver’s understanding of the information and avoid the traffic accident. When the multiple driving support systems are installed in a vehicle, it is important to inform a driver of multiple information as the driver can understand each information appropriately. In this study, we proposed the presentation method of the two different information using the driver’s peripheral vision in the condition that the two different information is presented from a vehicle-infrastructure cooperative system at a blind intersection without a signal. To reduce the cognitive workload of the multiple information, the first-priority information is presented on the head up display (HUD) for the driver to understand the first-priority information certainly and quickly. On the other hand, the second-priority information is presented in the peripheral display installed in the driver’s peripheral vision to recognize the second-priority information without gazing easily. By using the peripheral display in addition to the HUD, the driver’s response time to the second-priority information is reduced significantly without a negative effect on the response time to the first-priority information.

In this paper we reread the correspondence between Descartes and Princess Elisabeth from the viewpoint of contemporary philosophical counselling. Philosophical counselling as part of an emerging new paradigm of contemporary philosophy is defined as a client-centred dialogue in which trained philosopher helps a client identify the problem in his or her daily life, better problematise it, and conceptualise a solution if possible through dialogue. It is a kind of therapy in the sense that the philosophical counsellor cares for the soul of the client. We analyse how such fundamental elements as Raabe points out as well as other important aspects of philosophical counselling can be observed in the dialogue between Descartes and Elisabeth through the letters. Finally, we formulate our research questions regarding how to assess the quality of the dialogue, as well as the advantage and disadvantage of the counselling through correspondence compared to the face-to-face one.
