Sensory traits and preferences regarding food co-product fermented liquid (FCFL)-fed pork loin were compared with those of formula-fed pork. The FCFL-fed pork was expected to have improved fat meltability. Thirty-nine laboratory panelists took part in a sensory test. The fat meat and the lean meat of FCFL-fed pig were judged more meltable and tender, respectively, than the corresponding meat from the formula-fed pig. These sensory traits agreed closely with the results of a mechanical investigation of fat melting patterns and with Warner-Bratzlar shear force values. However, the overall preference was not significantly associated with sensory fat meltability and meat tenderness, as assessed by chi-square and correspondence analyses, but it was significantly related to the whole fat preference and the fat texture preference. The fat texture preference, however, did not correlate with sensory fat meltability. These results indicated that FCFL feeding altered sensory fat meltability in pork loin, but the preference for such meltable fat differed among individual panelists.

The paper focuses on a novel system iFeel_IM! that integrates 3D virtual world Second Life, intelligentcomponent for automatic emotion recognition from text messages, and innovative affective haptic interfaces providingadditional nonverbal communication channels through simulation of emotional feedback and social touch(physicalco-presence). The motivation behind our work is to enrich social interaction and emotional involvement of onlineinterpersonal communication. iFeel_IM! users can not only exchange messages but also emotionally and physically feelthe presence of the communication partner (e.g., family member, friend, or beloved person).
Augmenting User Interaction in a Smart Home Applying Commonsense Knowledge

In this paper, we present a system that augments user interaction to elicit intelligence of a living room adorned with aware artefacts. These artefacts are computationally augmented everyday objects, like a phone, a light, a TV, etc., which are enabled to communicate their operational states among themselves. The operational state of an artefact is usually changed to another state as a result of an interaction by the user. Our system augments such interactions by improvising other spatially correlated artefacts with the help of commonsense knowledge. For example, if a user picks up a ringing phone while the TV is on, the system either mutes or reduces the TV volume. In this case the phone’s state is changed to “in use” state due to deliberate interaction of the user and simultaneously the state of the TV may be changed to “mute” or “low volume” by the system. Such idea of augmenting user interaction has been elaborated in this paper. We present the computational model and theimplementation detail of our approach and also demonstrate its feasibility through an informal user study.
