Comprehensive Analysis of the Dilatation During Bainitic Transformation Under Stress

The thermal simulation experiments on bainitic transformation were conducted on Gleeble 3800. The microstructures of specimens were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The main purpose is to investigate the relationship between the dilatation of specimens and bainitic transformation under stress. Results show that the radial strain cannot represent the real amount of bainitic transformation under stress because the radial strain contains both shear and dilatational components of invariant plane strain. In this case, the volume strain, which eliminates the influence of the shear components, should be used to analyze the amount of bainitic transformation under stress. In addition, the radial strain should not be used for the investigation of the kinetics of bainitic transformation under stress. For bainitic transformation without stress, the radial strain of the specimen can represent the amount of bainite, and can be used for the analysis of the kinetics of bainitic transformation; so it is not necessary to measure the volume strain. The present study clarifies the relationship between dilatation and the bainitic transformation under stress, and provides a useful reference to the analysis of bainitic transformation under stress.

We discuss and obtain some existence theorems of unique point of coincidence for two mappings satisfying ϕ-contractive conditions or ψ-φ-contractive conditions determined by semi-continuous functions on non-complete 2-metric spaces, in which the mappings do not satisfy commutativity and uniform boundedness. The ob-tained results generalize and improve many well-known and corre-sponding conclusions.
New multifunction materials with both electrorheological performance and luminescence property

Novel multifunctional materials, the composites AlOOH-NaYFTb5 and AlOOH-NaYFTb10, containing AlO(OH) and β-NaYF4:5%Tb3+, have been synthesized via a facile hydrothermal route and a simple grinding method. The boehmite [AlO(OH)], yttrium nitrate [Y(NO3)3·6H2O], terbium nitrate, [Tb(NO3)3·6H2O], sodium citrate (Na3C6H5O7·2H2O) and sodium fluoride (NaF) were used as starting materials. The composition, electrorheological (ER) performance, and luminescence property of the functional materials were studied. Our results show that the composites not only have good electrorheological (ER) performance, but also have good optics property. The relative shear stress τr (τr = τE/τ0, τE and τ0 are the shear stresses at the electric field strength E = 4 and 0 kV/mm, respectively) values of the suspension (25 wt.%) of AlOOHNaYFTb5 material in silicone oil are all larger than 50 in a shear rate ranging from 0.06 to 26 s−1, the τr value reaches 1333 at a shear rate of 0.06 s−1. The material with such high ER activity and favorable luminescence performance is advantageous in its application as a multifunctional material.

HER2-overexpressing breast cancers are characterized byfrequent distant metastasis and often develop resistance aftershort-term effective treatment with the monoclonal antibodydrug, trastuzumab. Here, we found that the oncogenic miRNA,miR-221, inhibited apoptosis, induced trastuzumab resistanceand promoted metastasis of HER2-positive breast cancers. Thetumor suppressor PTEN was identified as a miR-221 target;overexpression of PTEN abrogated the aforementionedmiR-221-induced malignant phenotypes of the cells. Thesefindings indicate that miR-221 may promote trastuzumabresistance and metastasis of HER2-positive breast cancers bytargeting PTEN, suggesting its role as a potential biomarker forprogression and poor prognosis, and as a novel target fortrastuzumab-combined treatment of breast cancers.[BMB Reports 2014; 47(5): 268-273]
Process and product innovarions in vertically differentiated markets with network externalities

We analyze product and process innovations in a vertically differentiated duopoly in market with externalities. Through assuming process innovation reduces marginal cost and product innovation improves product quality, we find that;(i) product and process innovations are complements (resp.substitutes) for the firm with low (resp. high) quality when the intensity of network externality is small; (ii) process innovation affects product innovation more intensely when exists network externality than not;(iii) network externality makes process R&D (resp. aggregate process R&D) outcome affected by the parameter of product innovation cost ;(iv) aggregate process R&D outcome in industry increases with network intensity; (v) the firm with higher initial efficiency invests more in process innovation and will obtain more demand and profit than the rival in equilibrium.

Molecule-based electrorheological (ER) materials with luminescence property, based on β-cyclodextrin [(C6O5H10)7, β-CD] inclusion compounds between β-CD (host) and the rare earth (RE) (RE=Tb, Eu) complex (guest), have been synthesized as a novel type of ER materials using β-CD, Tb(NO3)3, Eu(NO3)3, sulphosalicylic acid (C7H6O6S·2H2O, SSA) and m-phthalic acid (C8H6O4, MPA) as original materials. The composition, ER performance, luminescence property and dielectric property of the materials have been studied. The results show that the rare earth complex in the cavity of β-CD may enhance the ER performance of β-CD, and the complex (Tb-SSA) of Tb3+ can improve more effectively the ER activity of β-CD than that (Eu-MPA) of Eu3+ among both of the complexes. The composition and structure are the dominant factors in improving the ER effect. The fluorescence intensity, fluorescence lifetime and emission quantum yield of the particle materials and their suspensions in silicone oil have been tested, and fine luminescence performance has been detected. The material with ER activity and luminescence performance is a novel multifunctional material which would have wide application prospect.

Chalcone isomerase (CHI) is a key enzyme ofthe flavonoid pathway that plays crucial roles in plant responsesto various pathogens. Our previous study using comparativetranscriptome analysis of soybean inoculated with or withoutPhytophthora sojae revealed Glyma.20G241500, a homologof CHI1A in Arabidopsis thaliana, to be induced by P.sojaein soybean. In the present study, we isolated the gene fromsoybean cultivar Nannong 10-1, designating it GmCHI1A. GmCHI1A transcripts were detected in soybean roots, stemsand leaves, with the highest levels in roots. Interestingly,GmCHI1A localizes to the cortical endoplasmic reticulum(ER). GmCHI1A was overexpressed in hairy roots to furtheruncover the roles of CHIs in soybean. Compared to emptyvector-expressing hairy roots (EV) infected with P. sojae,hairy roots overexpressing GmCHI1A (OE) exhibited decreasedP. sojae biomass accumulation, shortened the lesion lengthsand reduced zoospores germination. These results demonstratethat GmCHI1A plays positive roles in the response ofsoybean to P. sojae.
