Chemically well-designed one-pot growth is an efcient strategy for producing complex chemical compounds. Although the methodology has been successfully modifed and adopted for growing layered transition metal dichalcogenide (LTMD) heterostructures, the simultaneous synthesis of multiple LTMDs in a single reactor may lead to unexpected stacking sequences. Since WS2 (top)/MoS2 (bottom) is known as a conventional result, here, we report that its inverted form can also rarely occur in one-pot chemical vapor deposition growth. An optimized Ar-ion bombardment process on the heterostructured area and subsequent Raman signal probing verifed the initial stacking sequence of heterostructures: this sequential procedure was used for structure identifcation in this study. Unlike the growth of conventional heterostructures, we found that growing MoS2 can cover inactive W precursor beads. H2 gas injection then triggers WS2 growth between the MoS2 layer and substrate, forming an inverted MoS2 (top)/WS2 (bottom) heterostructure. Although the reaction sequence is fxed, our results indicate that their stacking may lead to unintended consequences which should be closely monitored for future applications.

Purpose: The efficacy of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) for men with postprostatectomy incontinence (PPI) after robotic- assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) is controversial and the mechanism for its possible effect remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between bladder neck (BN) displacement, as a proxy for puborectal muscle activation, and continence outcomes after RARP. Methods: Data were extracted from the South Australian Prostate Cancer Clinical Outcomes Collaborative database for men undergoing RARP by high volume surgeons who attended preoperative pelvic floor physiotherapy for pelvic floor muscle (PFM) training between 2012 and 2015. Instructions were to contract the PFM as if stopping the flow of urine. BN displacement was measured with 2-dimensional transperineal ultrasound, without digital rectal examination. Urinary continence status was assessed preoperatively and at 3, 6, and 12 months using the Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite 26. Data were analysed using logistic regression and mixed effects linear modelling. Confounding variables considered were baseline continence, age at diagnosis, margin status, nerve sparing procedures and pathological stage. Results: Of 671 eligible men, 358 met the inclusion criteria and were available for analysis, with 136 complete datasets at 12-month follow-up. While BN movement was associated with preoperative continence, there was no significant effect of BN displacement on the change in urinary continence at 12 months postprostatectomy (P=0.81) or on the influence of time on continence over 3–12 months. Conclusions: Continence outcomes were not associated with BN displacement, produced by activity of the puborectal portion of the levator ani muscle, at 3, 6, or 12 months after RARP. These results suggest that the puborectal muscle does not play a role in the recovery of continence after RARP and may help to explain the negative findings of many studies of PFMT for PPI.

In this article, the dependence structure of the asset classes stocks, government bonds and corporate bonds in different market environments and its implications on asset management are investigated. Asset returns are modelled by a Markov-switching model which allows for two market regimes with completely different risk-return structures. Using major stock indices, calm and turbulent market periods are identified for the time period between 1987 and 2009 and the correlation structures in the respective periods are compared. It turns out that the correlations between as well as within the asset classes under investigation are far from being stable and vary significantly between calm and turbulent market periods as well as time. Finally, the impact of these findings is examined in a portfolio optimization context. To accomplish this, a case study using the mean-variance and the mean-conditional-value-at-risk framework as well as two levels of risk aversion is conducted. The results show that an explicit consideration of different market conditions in the modelling framework yields better portfolio performance as well as lower portfolio risk compared to standard approaches. These findings hold true for all investigated optimization frameworks and risk-aversion levels.

Background: Colonoscopy plays a fundamental role in early diagnosis and management of colorectal cancer and requires public and professional acceptance to ensure the ongoing success of screening programs. The aim of the study was to prospectively assess whether patient acceptance rates to undergo screening colonoscopy could be improved by the offer of advanced imaging techniques. Materials and Methods: Overall, 372 randomly selected patients were prospectively included. A standardized questionnaire was developed that inquired of the patients their knowledge regarding advanced imaging techniques. Second, several media campaigns and information events were organized reporting about advanced imaging techniques, followed by repeated evaluation. After one year the evaluation ended. Results: At baseline, 64% of the patients declared that they had no knowledge about new endoscopic methods. After twelve months the overall grade of information increased significantly from 14% at baseline to 34%. The percentage of patients who decided to undergo colonoscopy because of the offer of new imaging methods also increased significantly from 12% at baseline to 42% after 12 months. Conclusions: Patients were highly interested in the offer of advanced imaging techniques. Knowledge about these techniques could relatively easy be provided using local media campaigns. The offer of advanced imaging techniques leads to higher acceptance rates for screening colonoscopies.

We have studied the electronic structure and interfacial properties of mechanically exfoliated few-layer NiPS3 van der Waals crystals on ZnO/Nb:SrTiO3 substrates using scanning photoelectron microscopy and spectroscopy. The conducting ZnO layer enhances the visibility of few-layer NiPS3 on Nb:SrTiO3 and prevents charging effects in photoemission. We experimentally determined a type-II band alignment at the NiPS3/ZnO interface. The valence band offset (VBO) of few-layer NiPS3/ZnO is 2.8 ± 0.09 eV, and the conduction band offset is 1.0 ± 0.09 eV. Moreover, we found an increase of ~0.3 eV in VBO as decreasing NiPS3 thickness, suggesting electronic coupling or charge transfer at the NiPS3/ZnO interface.
