Vitamin K2 (menaquinone or MK) plays an important role in blood clotting, cardiovascular disease, and anti-osteoporosis. A novel bacterial strain was isolated and identified as Bacillus natto based on 16SrDNA sequencing and LC-MS analysis. The objective of this study was to improve the extraction efficiency and productivity of MK-7 from B. natto. Acid-heating method efficiently disrupted B. natto cells for MK-7 extraction. Bacillus natto had a wide range of pH (5.0 ~ 9.0) for optimal growth. Its MK-7 yield was increased when rotation speed was increased to 200 rpm. The highest MK-7 yield was obtained when glycerol and soy peptone were used in the growth media. Batch fermentation was subsequently tested in 5 L bioreactor, which gave a high productivity of MK-7 (at 0.60 mg/L/h). A positive correlation between MK-7 yield and sporulation ratio was also found. This study provides valuable information on the extraction and production of menaquinone-7 from B. natto under submerged fermentation condition.

Many retailers have recently been building a greater variety of store formats and attempting to provide a superior shopping experience through their store environment in order to increase the possibility of customer revisitation and customer loyalty. However, less research pays attention to the issue of how, and to what extent, the different store formats have on impacting customer satisfaction and loyalty building. In order to improve the understanding of the satisfaction– loyalty link in the context of retail internationalization, we survey a Japanese fashion company – Nice Claup – that segmented the Chinese market by operating multiple retail stores and each retail store plays a discrete role of cultivating customer loyalty. Through 388-customer survey data, the results suggest that while attitudinal loyalty positively and directly influences behavioral loyalty, satisfaction indirectly drives behavioral loyalty through the mediating effects of attitudinal loyalty. The implication is that an application of implementing retail internationalization with adopting multiple store formats on different types of customers and customer behavioral loyalty can be transferred by offering multi-brands store more effectively than the single-brand store in the Chinese fashion market.

This study applies complexity theory to examine the effects of loyalty programs (LP) and consumer characteristics, as well as the perceptional and behavioral brand factors that influence brand equity and firm financial performance. It focuses on 14 Japanese fashion brands for a specific duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, this study considers the effects of complex components on performance (brand equity and firm financials) by testing the asymmetric relationships that exist between brand equity, LPs, and financials via fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis. We mainly address two research questions: (1) Do insights on brand equity from young generations contribute to firm financial outcomes? (2) In the declining fashion market, do LPs affect brand equity and firm financial performance? The results present causal configurations that could either directly, or indirectly, and positively, or negatively, influence outcomes (brand equity and firm financials) depending on various contexts, such as consumer demographics and shopping conditions
How Does Financial Technology Affect the Credit and Risk of Commercial Banks in China?

Purpose - Fintech integrates the characteristics of “finance + technology”, applying emerging technologies such as big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and blockchain, leading to a great challenge to existing financial service providers. With the rise in development of financial technology, Chinese fintech firms and online payments including third-party and mobile payments systems have attracted worldwide attention. Therefore, this paper aims to study the potential impact of financial technology on the traditional credit business of the banking sector from the perspectives of credit expansion and risk-sharing. Moreover, this study also explores how fintech influences Chinese commercial banks with the moderating effect of corporate governance. Design/Methodology/Approach - The study used a firm-level panel data of 34 Chinese banks over a period of 10 years from 2011 to 2020. The study applies a fixed regression method for hypotheses examining the relationship between fintech development and the credit supply and risk-taking of commercial banks. Findings - The results indicate that the development of fintech has significant impacts on the scale of credit loan and the level of risk bearing. Further research finds that board independence as a moderator positively and significantly influences fintech and bank credit loan scales, while board independence positively but insignificantly affects fintech and risk control in the banking sector. Research Implications - This paper enriches our understanding of the impacts of fintech on traditional financial institutions, and provides a new method for the operations of the banking sector. In addition, this paper provides a new research perspective for managers, especially in Chinese banking, to expand credit business under the moderating role of corporate governance mechanism.

In this study, peanut hulls powder (PHP) wastreated via mechanical activation (MA) and divided intothree groups (control, PHP150 and PHP250). Physicochemicalproperties including mean particle size distribution(MPSD), powder properties, solubility and in vitro proteindigestibility of PHP were then investigated. The resultsshowed that MA could decrease the particle size of PHP bydestroying its crystal structure, resulting in an increase ofamorphization and a decrease of crystallinity and crystallinesize. The results of in vitro protein digestibility and crudefi ber contents showed that MA increased the protein digestibilityof PHP by 43.32% and 74.70% ( P < 0.05), while crudefi ber content was decreased by 0.42% and 26.65% ( P < 0.05). These fi ndings indicated a large application potential of MAin PHP treatment.
